Animal Friend is a perk in Fallout, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas. and Fallout 4.
With this Perk, animals will not attack the player, unless the animal is threatened or attacked first. Deathclaws are not classified as animals for the purposes of this perk. Neither are any variety of arthropods such as radscorpions.
Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas[edit | edit source]
With the first rank of this perk, animals simply won't attack the player. With the second rank, these creatures will come to the player's aid in combat, but never against other animals.
In Fallout 3, this perk affects mad brahmin, mole rats, vicious dogs, and yao guai.
In Fallout: New Vegas, this perk affect bighorners, brahmin, coyotes and all dogs, all geckos (except the fire gecko), giant rats and mole rats, and nightstalkers.
- The perk icon in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas is a normal rabbit, which is visually different from the previous games in which the rabbit has an extra ear, eye, tooth, and a webbed foot.
- This perk makes exploring most caves much safer.
- Despite being classified as animals for the Animal Control challenge, lakelurks and fire geckos are unaffected by this perk.
- Unlike in the yao guai in Fallout 3, yao guai in Honest Hearts are not affected by this perk.
With the Animal Friend perk, you can aim at animals with your gun and attempt to pacify them. Higher ranks grant the ability to incite them to attack, or allow you to issue specific commands.

The first rank of Animal Friend allows the Sole Survivor to pacify any animal below their level by aiming their weapon at the animal. Once it is pacified, the second rank allows them to order the animal to attack, and the third rank allows them to give the animal specific commands beyond attacking.
