Aradesh was the leader of Shady Sands in 2161. Over the subsequent decades, he went on to organize the town and its neighbors into the New California Republic, becoming the nation's first president.
Background[]
Aradesh was originally an inhabitant of the overpopulated and ethnically-diverse Vault 15, located east of Vault 13. While the Vault functioned more or less as advertised, internal conflicts led to a schism in which multiple groups left the Vault. Several of these groups went on to become raiders, such as the Khans, and the few remaining inhabitants of Vault 15 were eventually attacked and forced to flee.
Shady Sands[]
It was during this period, in 2142, that survivors from the Vault founded the farming village of Shady Sands using a G.E.C.K. that had been issued to the Vault. Aradesh rose to become a respected leader of the community, balancing his duties to the village with raising his daughter, Tandi. His policy was one of isolation and internal development, focusing on making the community self-sufficient and safe from raiders.
In 2161, the Vault Dweller arrived in Shady Sands and met with Aradesh. While he initially greeted the traveler with suspicion, Aradesh quickly warmed to them after they removed the radscorpion threat and later saved his daughter from the Khans.
Founding NCR[]
In the years after the Vault Dweller's arrival, Aradesh began laying the foundations for the New California Republic. First proposed in 2186, by the time of its formal founding in 2189 Aradesh had been chosen as the new nation's first president.[1] Over the next seven years, President Aradesh[1] continued his work, helping to develop and unify southern California under the NCR's banner.
At some point during his presidency, inspired by the Vault Dweller's legacy, Aradesh and Seth began launching expeditions in search of Vault 13. This obsession would be his downfall, as in 2196, the two disappeared while searching the desert and were proclaimed dead. Afterward, his daughter took her father's position of president, following in his footsteps to guide the NCR to a brighter, safer future.
Interactions with the player character[]
Interactions overview[]

This character has a talking head. | ||

Quests[]
- Rescue Tandi from the Raiders: Aradesh's daughter has been kidnapped by some Khans. He wants the Vault Dweller to rescue her.
- Stop the Radscorpions: Aradesh tells the Vault Dweller that there is a nearby cave that's filled with radscorpions and he's wary that they could cause some damage.
Other interactions[]
- He is likely to be among the first non-player characters with a talking head that are encountered.
- It will quickly become apparent that he does not tolerate being lied to. Should the Vault Dweller act rash, refuse to answer questions or lie about their origins in Vault 13 (excusing the fact that with a high Speech skill it is possible to lie one's way in), Aradesh has no qualms about leading them back to the town borders. This has no real effect on further interactions in the town, as one can return and re-initiate dialogue with Aradesh without negative repercussions.
Tell me about[]
Aradesh's Tell-Me-Abouts | |
---|---|
Query | Response |
Aradesh | "I am he. I lead this humble town of Shady Sands." |
Claw | "Yes, yes, yes. It is a rumor of a monster created during the War." |
Dharma | "Dharma was a great, religious man. You would do well to listen closely to his sayings." |
Garl | "He leads the Khans. He is one of the most dangerous men that has ever set eyes on Shady Sands. He leads the raider clans with a heavy fist." (In Shady Sands) |
Hub, The Hub | "Go talk to Seth about that. He'll know more than I." |
Junktown | "Junktown lies south of here. Their merchants occasionally come to trade, but not often." |
Khans | "Umm, yes, yes. The Khans are nastier then the Vipers, let me tell you. These barbarians attack from the southeast." |
Lair | "No one knows for certain, but the packs seem to be coming from the northeast." |
Raiders | "Ummm, um, um. Very bad. There are two bands of raiders that we know of. They call themselves the Vipers and the Khans." |
Razlo | "Hmm, yes, yes. Razlo is our doctor. If it ails you, he can heal it. I would wager he is just a little north of here at this moment." |
Scorpion, Scorpions | "Mean creatures, they are. Be careful of their tail. Their poison can be lethal if not looked after." |
Seth | "A fine young man, Seth. Captain of our guards. He is likely to be at the Guard House." |
Spear | "The Vipers and Khans both use spears. We know this from their attacks." |
Station, Tower | "You will find it at the front of town. Seth will likely be there." |
Tandi | "She is my daughter. It is she that makes this hard life worth living." |
Vipers | "Be very careful with such as these. Raiders who are fanatically religious can be quite dangerous. No one here knows of their base." |
Anything else | I don't know. |
I can't really say I have heard of that. | |
Hm, no. No, I have not heard of that. |

Notes[]
- Aradesh will say that he has never heard about Shady Sands even though he runs the town if asked as a "Tell-Me-About" because the feature does not support spaces.
- A fort in the American southwest was named after Aradesh, mentioned by Ulysses during the Courier's trek through the Divide.[2]
- Despite being a president of the NCR, he is not referred to as such on the 5 dollar bill. He has no title unlike "First Ranger Seth" and "President Tandi" who both appear on other bills.
Appearances[]
Aradesh appears in Fallout as a talking head. He is mentioned by Tandi in Fallout 2, and appears on the NCR five dollar bill. He is also mentioned by Caesar in Fallout: New Vegas and in Fallout 4 on the radio broadcast while exploring Conrad Kellogg's memories.
