The Circle of Steel is a sub-faction within the Brotherhood of Steel meant for dealing with internal conflicts. In terms of their position relative to the Brotherhood proper, they are the Internal Affairs of the whole Brotherhood of Steel.[Non-game 1]

Background[]

After the Brotherhood was defeated at HELIOS One, another branch of the organization ordered the execution of the one responsible, Elder Elijah. An agent of the Circle of Steel Christine Royce was sent out to hunt him down, equipped with a silenced sniper rifle and recon armor.[1][2]

Appearances[]

The Circle of Steel is mentioned in the Fallout: New Vegas add-ons Dead Money and Old World Blues. They were originally intended to appear in the cancelled Van Buren.

Behind the scenes[]

  • According to Chris Avellone, the group was formed by hardliners in the Brotherhood of Steel, who believed the rest of the organization has drifted from the original principles of preserving technology.[Non-game 2][Non-game 1]
  • Avellone also summarizes them as "secret black ops (more stealthy/techninja/assassins) branch we intended to introduce in Van Buren, and that branch was becoming unhinged through extreme use of Stealth Boy technology, and causing fractures within the political structure of the BoS." in Fallout Apocrypha, explicitly noting the connection between Christine Royce and the Circle in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.
