Eyebot Duraframe Subject E is both the prototype, and the last functional model in this test group.

on ED-E

Eyebot Duraframe Subject E, more commonly known as ED-E (pronounced "Eddie" by some and "Ede" by others) is a Duraframe eyebot and possible companion in .

Contents

[] Background

ED-E is an from the . It was built by at . As a prototype "duraframe" model, ED-E has been enhanced for regular combat as opposed to the original model, which functions primarily as a mobile radio transmitter. However, since the war of 2277, with the necessitated increased production of the , eyebot production was stopped, and ED-E became the last surviving model. Whitley uploaded an enormous amount of valuable data on and his duraframe research into ED-E's logs, then dispatched it on a cross-country journey to , past , , , , , , , , , , and .

ED-E's first stop was a hidden Enclave outpost in for upgrades and repairs. It then traveled across the where it was shot twice by a raider sniper, dealing a large amount of damage. This eventually left it deactivated near , where it was found and taken in by a courier of the and delivered to . Unable to repair it himself, Nash left ED-E to languish on Primm's branch office counter, where it remained while Primm was taken over by . When the arrives in Primm, he/she is able to repair ED-E, allowing the eyebot to join the Courier's quest as a companion.

Although ED-E still retains all of its data and understanding of its mission, its internal positioning hardware is badly damaged. The only reason it has not been seized by interested parties is because ED-E has not communicated its special mission to anyone. It has retained audio logs in its data banks, recording its creator briefly:

My name is . I'm a researcher at Adams Air Force base. Until recently I was in charge of the Duraframe reinforcement project for the combat model Eyebots.

Eyebot Duraframe Subject E is both the prototype, and the last functional model in this test group.

I was prepared to make several significant upgrades to the machines.

However, as the project was canceled and all Duraframe assets are being diverted to , I am sending this model to the outpost.

If you are listening to this log from one of our Enclave Outposts in Chicago, give this unit whatever repairs it needs so it can continue to Navarro.

Navarro outpost scientists, I am glad that ED-E has reached you. You will find several databanks of information on this machine.

Please handle this information with the utmost care as it represents the sum total of the results of my research on the Duraframe Eyebots.

There are also several databanks with information on my research into Poseidon Energy and some projects they were working on in the Mojave area.

[] Notes

  • ED-E has a bumper sticker on its right side saying "My child is an HONOR STUDENT at ," which is a location in . On the opposite side from the bumper sticker is a "" Illinois 2062 license plate reading "2ED-E59". The numbers are more worn and faded than the letters, so a quick glance makes it appear to read "ED-E". This is elaborated on in Lonesome Road, where the duplicate version mentions that the original had to stop in Chicago, Illinois for repairs.
  • Regardless of who upgrades it, ED-E's appearance will be altered. If upgraded by the Followers, the armor will remain the same, but its zapper will be made more powerful, since it is the part they upgraded. If upgraded by the Brotherhood, it will result in ED-E having a much cleaner appearance, signifying its enhanced armor. Both upgrades will remove all of ED-E's stickers and the license plate.
  • ED-E behaves like a human in pathfinding, which means it can set off traps (and can even be knocked down by the ) even though it hovers.
  • ED-E does not have much HP to start with. When it is upgraded, however, it will have more than most other companions.
  • ED-E, like other companions, will attack enemies that come within range even when told to remain in one place. This means that it can be left in a strategic spot and will behave like a turret gun.
  • ED-E is not affected by .
  • If ED-E is ever frenzied, it will become hostile if dismissed as a companion and returned to Primm. The only exception is if it is sent to be upgraded.
  • After having completed the game and the "" quest, ED-E will give an account of what happened after the events of the game; however, its account is given using its signature beeps, so you need to have general subtitles enabled to understand them.
  • Even when ED-E is not directly following the Courier, he/she will still have use of the 'Enhanced Sensors' perk.
  • ED-E might strafe side-to-side if multiple enemies are in sight. Although it seems tactical, it won't help if the enemies have firearms.
  • Even though ED-E is a robot, you can still heal it with .
  • After completing and starting a new game, ED-E will still have access to the and .

[] Bugs

  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png If you travel to Big MT without completing , the Followers option may never appear.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png PCIcon pc.png When exiting and ED-E may get stuck in the opening of the cave. In the latest patch, ED-E will instead show up as a marker, but can't be found in the surroundings or in the cave.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png When at Black Mountain, it is possible that ED-E will disappear after the Courier is attacked by super mutants in the small pass with the bear traps and the large boulder. It can also happen in the entrance of Vault 22. This might be fixed by going to (and starting the add-on) or by using one of the loaded by the patch released just before the release of . There will be a message saying that ED-E has returned to Primm.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png After upgrading ED-E's armor, its inventory weight goes up from 1 to 2. Traveling to the Fort and back with ED-E as a companion permanently adds an additional 2 to its weight EACH time you go there, eventually making it impossible to place items in its inventory anymore. There is no known way to remove this invisible item weight, and the only way to prevent it is by firing ED-E before traveling there. Telling him to wait elsewhere before going to the Fort still adds the extra phantom weight. Apparently, its laser is being duplicated each time your weapons are forcibly removed at the Fort. Even if you enter the Fort without invitation, or the proper Legion reputation (i.e. bad rep, not giving weapons), this may happen. This does not happen at the casinos, though.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png PCIcon pc.png After upgrading ED-E with the Followers, if it is destroyed, the dialogue and text about losing its perk after its death will not appear at all. You can lose ED-E without noticing its death in battles or if it strays too far from the Courier by its own way being in [DANGER] mode because of the hostiles around it. A related bug exists where if ED-E is destroyed, its perk still remains in the Courier's and still fully working. This can be fixed using console commands prid <ref id>; moveto player; disable; resurrect; enable where "ref id" is set for specific ED-E type.
  • PCIcon pc.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png ED-E delivers a message from the Brotherhood after enough trigger words are activated. During the last paragraph of this speech, the speaker's dialect changes to that of a Hispanic male (possibly from one of the developers of New Vegas), and the player is stuck without being able to bring up the Pip-Boy or move. The following speech made by the will not play. Quitting to dashboard and reloading does not fix this bug. However, entering enableplayercontrols via console seems to fix the problem on PC. You may also try telling ED-E to wait in a place prior to receiving the message and retrieving him later.
  • PCIcon pc.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png The Upgraded Zapper from the Followers of the Apocalypse upgrade can be lost at random, particularly in casinos or in Caesar's Fort. It is actually two different weapons: Energy Zap(00166B94) and Electrical Zap(001694DF), and can be restored with AddItem after targeting ED-E. They require energy cell ammunition (00078CC2), but don't actually consume it.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png It is possible for ED-E (after the armor upgrade) to not use its weapons and not even move. If you fast-travel or use the wait command, it will rejoin you.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png Sometimes while speaking to ED-E, a gunfire sound will trigger instead of the regular beeping noise.
  • PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png ED-E may occasionally lose the dialogue option for his daily repair, even after waiting 24 hours. To fix this, travel to The Divide and back and the option should reappear.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png PCIcon pc.png Sometimes, without having finished ED-E My Love, he will sometimes use his upgrade (from the followers) even though he hasn't been upgraded yet. He appears to switch between his original and upgraded gun. There is no known fix.
  • If ED-E is carrying inventory items when ED-E is given up temporarily for upgrades during the quest ED-E My Love, ED-E's inventory items would be deleted upon returning with the Courier
  • When ED-E is given armor of any faction, then a message will appear saying "Your Companion is unable to wear this faction armor", and the armor will be dropped.
  • Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png sometimes, ED-E's antennas and zapper will be disconnected from his body and be floating above and below him
