The Great Merchant Wars was a major conflict between several groups of merchants from the that took place between and after , founder and governor of the Hub, was murdered in the winter of .

In 2126, a band of merchants seized the water tower in the Hub. They demanded anyone wanting water must pay a toll. Thus, the Great Merchant Wars began. The sealed up the town, but were outnumbered. The war raged on for nearly three years, piling up casualties, until a man named ('s grandfather) managed to negotiate peace.

As part of the negotiations, a limit on the price of water was set and the was formed, composed of two representatives from each of the Hub caravan companies.
