Maybe you don't know who you're talking to. I'm Chief Danvers, head of Rivet City security.— This line is spoken should Harkness no longer be Chief of the Rivet City Security Force.

Commander Lana Danvers (circa 2247—) is the second in command[1][Non-game 1] of the Rivet City Security Force in 2277.

Background[]

Lana was born around 2247. She was married until 2275 when her husband, also a Rivet City security officer, died from disease.[Non-game 1]

Danvers oversees the night shift for the entire city.[1] She is an extremely busy woman, and she makes that clear to anyone who speaks to her;[2][3] this is also her stated reason for not attending Saint Monica's Church.[4] Accordingly, Danvers cares little about the city's history, as she is more concerned about the problems of the present.[5] As second-in-command, Danvers is slated to take over as security chief if Harkness can no longer fill the role for any reason.[6][7] This also makes her next in line for the position of security representative on the Rivet City Council. However, even without being on the council, she has some sway over it. If it becomes clear that anyone on or trying to be on the council has engaged in unsavory activities, she will make sure their political aspirations come to an end.[8][9]

Danvers makes sure to check in with any civilians or other officers she encounters while commanding the night shift.[10][11][12] One particular trouble case is Paulie Cantelli, whose chem addictions are widely known. Both she and Harkness have to remind Paulie to keep away from the edge of the flight deck, knowing that Paulie uses any chance he can to get high and there is high risk of an accident.[13][14] Another source of trouble is Sister, who is on thin ice with her; she threatens to throw him off the ship if he does not stick to the rules.[15]

Relationships[]

In general, Danvers is stated to hold mild disdain for Upper Deck residents and give preferential treatment to Hangar Deck residents.[Non-game 1] This is most evident from her attitude towards Vera Weatherly, seeing Vera as lazy for taking breaks while Mister Buckingham runs the Weatherly Hotel, and telling Seagrave Holmes (who constantly tries to woo Vera) that she is not worth his time. Vera, in turn, assumes Danvers is jealous of her success and responds by taunting her about it.[16][17] Danvers and Vera are not always so vitriolic towards each other, but even then Danvers is characteristically unfriendly.[10] Her interactions with other Upper Deck residents are also terse, albeit civil. She is neutral with Flak, who maintains her firearms,[18] and reprimands Shrapnel for causing a scene in The Muddy Rudder (possibly due to his fear of raiders); Shrapnel claims to have "learned [his] lesson" from her since then.[19] She has a low opinion of Bannon and is happy to see him held accountable for his behavior,[9] and she warns Diego to watch himself around the "jailbait" Angela Staley.[20] However, she is perfectly happy to greet Father Clifford even though she does not attend church.[4]

In contrast, Danvers has better opinions of some Hangar Deck residents and working types. She considers Seagrave Holmes to be above Vera's level and will be visibly saddened if given evidence that would end Seagrave's council campaign.[8] She is also happy to greet and chat with Garza, much unlike the way she treats most others in the ship.[21] This, again, does not extend to everyone. Danvers distrusts James Hargrave, calling him trouble and pointing out his mother Tammy as a neglectful drunkard.[22] She recognizes Paulie Cantelli's addictions as a serious problem and empathizes with his wife Cindy for having to deal with him (an opinion shared by many other women in Rivet City).[23] Finally, she (and others on the security team) consider Abraham Washington a "nutjob."[24]

Danvers does not have much knowledge about Doctor Madison Li and knows her only as "one of those egg head scientist types."[25] Any requests that Doctor Li makes for security, such as having them lock up a supply shipment to avoid theft, are passed to Danvers through Garza.[26] Danvers understands that Doctor Li's work in the science lab has been responsible for Rivet City's success, but she dislikes how reliant the city is on her.[21]

Chief Harkness is Danvers' best friend. Their relationship is strictly platonic. However, their friendship is slightly strained by Danvers' opinion of the Upper Deck.[Non-game 1]

Daily schedule[]

Danvers can be found patrolling the Rivet City market every night from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. During this time, the market is closed, and if the Lone Wanderer is present, she and other characters may tell them to leave. If they continue to stay for too long, they may turn hostile. Otherwise, Danvers spends the rest of her day sleeping in the bridge tower, only waking up at 5 p.m. to eat until starting her night patrol.

Danvers has several additional AI routines that fail to start because her sleeping package is incorrectly implemented: it is intended to only last for eight hours (DanversSleep9x8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), but the schedule is not implemented, so she will sleep whenever she can. Her intended routine is to return from patrol and eat in the bridge tower at 7 a.m., then sleep from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., then patrol the flight deck from 4 to 7 p.m.

Quests[]

Effects of player's actions[]

  • She is the first in line to become security chief and take the seat in the Rivet City Council if Harkness can no longer fill these roles (see The Replicated Man). She will then refer to herself as "Chief Danvers" when greeted, although she will still call Harkness the current chief and council representative even after he has left.
    • Bugged This is because the Rivet City Council topic lines used by security members (including Danvers) are incorrectly implemented; the conditions to check for Harkness dying or leaving are used on the alternate "Chief Danvers" line, meaning that it will never replace the default "Chief Harkness" line.
    • It is possible to get her and Harkness to be both be chief at the same time if during the Replicated Man quest, if the player asks Harkness if they can kill Zimmer, tells Zimmer that Harkness is the android, then kills Zimmer, and the game will act as if he left even if he hadn't.

  6. The Lone Wanderer: "What happened to Chief Harkness?"
Lana Danvers: "He's gone. I'm in charge now. Did you want something, or are you just wasting my time?"

  10. 10.0 10.1 Bugged Vera Weatherly: "Commander Danvers. Walking the night patrol?"
Lana Danvers: "Just keeping the deck safe for all you Upper Deck types."
(Rivet City conversations; Vera Weatherly's and Lana Danvers' dialogue) Note: May only occur when Commander Danvers is patrolling the flight deck at night. However, incorrect package conditions make it impossible for her to do so.
  11. Lana Danvers: "Chief Harkness, we should go over those reports."
Harkness: "First thing tomorrow, Commander Danvers."

Harkness: "You're wasted, Paulie. If you're going to stay on the flight deck, try to stay away from the railing."
(Rivet City conversations; Paulie Cantelli's and Harkness' dialogue) Note: These conversations should occur on the flight deck of Rivet City. However, Paulie and Harkness never visit the flight deck at the same time.
  14. Bugged Paulie Cantelli: "Hey, Commander. Just walking the deck here. Yep, just walking the deck."
Lana Danvers: "Paulie, you're wasted. Just do me a favor and don't fall off the deck."
(Rivet City conversations; Paulie Cantelli's and Lana Danvers' dialogue) Note: Paulie's and Commander Danvers' schedules do not overlap. They should overlap when Danvers visits the flight deck in the evening, but incorrect package conditions make her unable to do so.
  15. Commander Danvers: "You better be minding yourself, Sister. One more screw up and I'm tossing your ass overboard."
Sister: "I won't be causing any more trouble, Commander...Bitch."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Sister's dialogue)
  16. Lana Danvers: "Hello, Seagrave. You shouldn't waste your time with Vera. You can do better than her."
Seagrave Holmes: "A man can hope, Danvers. Besides, I don't have a problem with the Upper Deck like you do."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Seagrave Holmes' dialogue) Note: May only occur if Vera Weatherly is still alive.
  17. Lana Danvers: "Hello Miss Weatherly. Still letting that bucket of bolts do all your work for you?"
Vera Weatherly: "Don't be jealous of my wealth. Be jealous of my looks instead."
    Lana Danvers: "Bitch."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Vera Weatherly's dialogue)

    Flak: "Bring them by anytime."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Flak's dialogue)
  19. Commander Danvers: "Guns and liquor don't mix, Shrapnel. Leave the ordnance at home when you're in the Muddy Rudder."
Shrapnel: "I learned my lesson, Danvers. Just keep those damn Raiders away from me."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Shrapnel's dialogue)
  20. Lana Danvers: "Hello, Diego. I'd be careful with that jailbait if I were you."
Diego: "My relationship with Angela is strictly platonic, Commander. Saint Monica's blessing to you."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Diego's dialogue) Note: May only occur if Angela Staley is still alive.
  21. 21.0 21.1 Lana Danvers: ""Hello, Garza. Everything okay down in Doctor Li's lab?"
Garza: "The doctor is fine. If it weren't for her work, Rivet City would be no better than Megaton, Danvers."
Lana Danvers: "I suppose that's true. Doesn't mean I have to like it though."
(Rivet City conversations; Lana Danvers' and Garza's dialogue)
  22. 22.0 22.1 The Lone Wanderer: "What's up with that James Hargrave kid? He acts like such a brat."
Lana Danvers: "He's trouble, that's what he is. I don't trust him, and neither should you. His mother is a drunk. Spends all her time in the Muddy Rudder."
    (Lana Danvers' dialogue)
  23. 23.0 23.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Is Paulie really addicted to chems?"
Commander Danvers: "Oh, yeah. He's a mess. I'm glad I'm not in Cindy's shoes."
(Lana Danvers' dialogue) This topic response is shared by all female characters in Rivet City apart from Cindy Cantelli, who has a unique response.
  24. The Lone Wanderer: "What is the CapitalIn-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar Preservation Society?"
Commander Danvers: "It's some sort of museum that nutjob Abraham Washington runs."
    (Lana Danvers' dialogue)
  25. The Lone Wanderer: "What can you tell me about Doctor Li?"
Commander Danvers: "She's some sort of genius. You know. One of those egg head scientist types. Her lab is in the stern end of the ship."
    (Lana Danvers' dialogue)
  26. Garza: "Commander Danvers. Doctor Li has asked that the latest shipment be locked up this time."
Lana Danvers: "I'll send someone down to change the locks."
(Rivet City conversations; Garza's and Lana Danvers' dialogue)
  27. The Lone Wanderer: "Where can I find Ted Strayer?"
Lana Danvers: "Have you tried the common room? That's where he sleeps. Otherwise...hmmm. You can probably find him on the flight deck some days, if it isn't raining. He usually goes to the Muddy Rudder on Sundays. Beyond that, who knows."
    (Lana Danvers' dialogue)
  28. The Lone Wanderer: "Have you seen C.J. Young lately?"
Lana Danvers: "Christie told me they were missing. I'll alert the rest of the security guards."
"I heard she and James were missing. I'll have security keep an eye out for them."
(Lana Danvers' dialogue) Danvers' separate responses are alternates. The first line is used if Christie Young is alive, and the second if she is dead.
  29. The Lone Wanderer: "Can I get a drink around here? Preferably somewhere clean."
Lana Danvers: "The Weatherly Hotel is a good choice. It's on the upper deck."
    (Lana Danvers' dialogue)
