Doctor Madison Li is a scientist working on portable fusion power and hydroponics experiments in Rivet City in 2277.

[edit] Early Life and Project Purity
Madison Li was born in 2229,.[1] Later in her life she met a man named James and together they formed or joined a group of scientists, Madison use to have feelings for James but she never revealed her feeling about him because James was in love with another woman named Catherine. Catherine had a dream, a dream about purifying water, then giving it to any and all. This became the groups big project and was soon dubbed Project Purity. Despite James' renewed efforts Madison remained skeptical of the project. The project was going smoothly, the project even had the support and help of the Brotherhood of Steel, but soon it all went down hill. Super Mutant attacks were more frequent and purifying water was much harder than first thought, and then James and Catherine had a child and just before things couldn't get any worse for the project, Catherine died. James then left with the child, to try and find a safe home for them. The Brotherhood also abandoned the project and soon all of the scientists soon abandoned the Jefferson Memorial too, Project Purity was put on hold.
Dr. Li was the first distinct face that the Player sees, during the birthing scene, as she carries the newborn Lone Wanderer away while Catherine is going into cardiac arrest.

Madison Li then heads for Rivet City, hearing about its thriving scientific community set up by Dr. Horace Pinkerton. Soon after she arrived, she begin to argue with Pinkerton as they often had different views on the matters at hand. One day having enough Pinkerton leaves Rivet City and begins to live in the bow of the ship. Doctor Li soon becomes the head scientist of the group and begins to grow healthy, radiation free produce like Fresh Apples and Fresh Pears.
[edit] Return to Project Purity
Madison Li's life was still going smoothly even 20 years after abandoning Project Purity. But her life was drastically changed when she got an unexpected visit from James, who had escaped from Vault 101 and returned to Rivet City. He tried to recruit Dr. Li in his efforts to revive Project Purity. She refused, thinking too much time had passed. Soon after her talk with James she meets the now adult Lone Wanderer asking were James is, she tells the Lone Wanderer were their Dad is and the Wanderer leaves. James and the Lone Wanderer return some time later and James is finally able to recruit Madison to help him and with some other scientists they head for Project Purity.
There, the scientists begin to make things operational again. All is going smoothly then the Enclave arrive out of nowhere. She and the Lone Wanderer escape and make it to the Citadel where she then rests.
During the Battle of Project Purity she tells the Lone Wanderer and Sarah Lyons that the project needs to be activated now or the facility would explode.

After the purifier is activated, Madison leaves the Capital Wasteland and travels to the Commonwealth to pursue other scientific purposes, allegedly because she could not stand the Brotherhood Scribes' involvement in Project Purity. However, it should be noted that it is mentioned in the game that she could slightly tolerate Scribe Rothchild.
Madison Li is never seen again.

- If the Lone Wanderer passes a Speech check before going to Project Purity Dr. Li rewards them with 5 stimpaks.
[edit] Effects of player actions
- If the Lone Wanderer has killed Three Dog before completing the Galaxy News Radio quest, the player will need to talk to Dr. Li to resume the plot.
[edit] Inventory
- Doctor Li has a unique hairstyle that is unused by any other non-player character and unavailable to the player, similarly to Cherry
- If the player picks the lock to Doctor Li's room, he/she can sleep in her bed, unlike most owned beds.
- Strangely, should the player open her room, a random non-player character will use the bed as well. Flak is one of the possibilities. It's also interesting to note that only that one non-player character will be the one to use her bed more frequently. Also, even though the room is initially locked, an non-player character can already be found sleeping in it.
