Contents

[] Background

Seward Square is located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and North Carolina Avenue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. The square is bounded by 4th Street to the west and 6th Street to the east. North and south of the park are the respective westbound and eastbound lanes of Seward Square, SE. The park is named after William Henry Seward, the United States Secretary of State under Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Seward is noted for his part in the American purchase of Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867. The purchase was ridiculed at the time and was colloquially known as "Seward's Folly".

After the Great War, the area was abandoned. However, the passage of time has done relatively little harm: many of the buildings are relatively intact and public amenities still function relatively well, despite nearly two centuries of no maintenance. The area was picked by as base of operations thanks to its relative good condition and the presence of a reinforced bunker in operational state in one of the few buildings that were destroyed during the War.

[] Layout

Seward Square can be reached through the , though it can also be reached through a sewer system from Pennsylvania Ave. It can be reached most easily through Anacostia Crossing Station. It can also be accessed through The Capitol Building from . A battle between mercs and will be taking place on the Capitol building's steps, with exploding cars in the crossfire. To the east near the subway station (near Reilly's Rangers) is also the location of a scripted Enclave Vertibird drop-off with a sentry bot.

The Capitol Building in the west, near Seward Sq. Northwest map marker. This entrance to the capitol building is also the fastest way to reach the train to return to . An office building is near the Penn. Ave/Seward Sq. Metro. Additionally, a sky bridge east of the Capitol Building (and accessible via the office building) houses a switch which will to be fired across the square. This provides a way to take out some of the warring Talon Mercenaries and super mutants. A sniper guards the switch.

The second and third are under two barrels next to the slide. The fourth is in a shopping cart near the same slide. The fifth is on the merry-go-round. If Dogmeat is with you, having him ferret out the nukes will save you a great deal of search time. There are also 5 inactive that can be picked up without fear.

[] Notes

  • If the is installed, a small sandbag fort with additional will appear in Seward Square Northwest, East side against a building, across the battlefield where Super Mutants and Talon Company fight it out outside the Capitol Building back (East) entrance. A few loot items such as cherry bombs, 2 ammunition cases, 2 first aid boxes, suitcase etc., and a new log titled "" on a shelf next to a first aid box.
