Disappointed? We call 'em the Misfits for a reason. They're undisciplined, lazy, and they have absolutely no espirit de corps.Sergeant McCredie

Squad CG554-2 of the New California Republic Army's 9th Platoon,[1][2] nicknamed the Misfits, are a notorious unit of troopers stationed at Camp Golf in 2281.

Background[]

Part of 9th Platoon at Camp Golf in 2281, the Misfits are appropriately named because of their lax behavior and lack of combat readiness. A mix of volunteers and conscripts, the Misfits have each proven to be mediocre or outright terrible soldiers so far, and their army careers have dead-ended with their being dumped at Camp Golf since nobody else would take them. Their immediate superior, Sergeant McCredie, is at his wit's end after so long trying and failing to make proper soldiers of them, but he remains convinced it can be done, even if he cannot imagine how.[3]

Members[]

Interactions with the player character[]

The Courier has the opportunity to whip them into shape during the quest Flags of Our Foul-Ups. Depending on the completion of the quest, and the Courier's actions elsewhere in the Mojave, the Misfits may play a key role in repelling the Legion assault on Camp Golf during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, or desert and be court-martialed and executed by the NCR Army, among a variety of possible outcomes. Most crucial in interacting with the Misfits themselves is how effective the Courier is in attempting to influence and correct their behavior, and in what way.

Slide Voice-over narration In-game condition
1
The Misfits end slide 01
Slain to the last man by the Courier, The Misfits were at least spared the humiliation of dying during Caesar's attack on Camp Golf. Few mourned their absence. Kill all The Misfits.
2
The Misfits end slide 01
Shaped up by the Courier's advice, The Misfits distinguished themselves during the Legion's attack on Camp Golf. Mags was finally promoted to Sergeant, and the rest of The Misfits received an official commendation. They continued to serve with distinction for many years. Complete Flags of Our Foul-Ups using O'Harahan's or Mags' advice. Complete any endgame except Veni, Vidi, Vici.
3
The Misfits end slide 01
Though Camp Golf fell to Caesar, The Misfits distinguished themselves during the Legion's attack. Mags and her soldiers were posthumously recognized for their valor by NCR. Complete Flags of Our Foul-Ups using O'Harahan's or Mags' advice. Complete Veni, Vidi, Vici for Caesar's Legion.
4
The Misfits end slide 02
The Misfits' laziness caught up with them when the Legion attacked Camp Golf. Those who weren't killed in the attack attempted to flee, but were caught at Mojave Outpost, court-martialed, and hanged from the ranger monument. Do not complete Flags of Our Foul-Ups, or complete it with Poindexter's advice and complete Veni, Vidi, Vici for Caesar's Legion or use Poindexter's advice and complete All or Nothing for Mr. House.
5
The Misfits end slide 01
Driven into a frenzy by their use of psycho, The Misfits inflicted heavy casualties on the Legion during the defense of Camp Golf. At first they were commended for their valor, but eventually, desperate for more of the chem, they turned on travelers in Outer Vegas. For their dishonorable conduct, the NCR court-martialed and executed them by firing squad. Complete Flags of Our Foul-Ups using Razz's advice, complete any endgame quest except Veni, Vidi, Vici.
