The Vault-Tec representative is a salesman representing Vault-Tec Industries in the Boston area, during and after the Great War. He appears briefly in the introductory sequence of Fallout 4, and is then met again as a ghoul in the Hotel Rexford.

Background[edit | edit source]

On a Saturday morning, the day of the Great War, this representative went door to door finalizing paperwork on residents pre-approved for entrance into Vault 111. When the Sole Survivor answers the door, the representative hands them a form to fill out, which allows for the Sole Survivor to enter their name, as well as establish their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats as part of the character creation process. Later on, after the Great War begins, the representative can be seen trying to enter Vault 111, but is rejected by the armed personnel at the gate. When he threatens to run past them anyway, a power armored guard revs his minigun, which makes him back off, but then threatens to report what happened.

Luckily, or unluckily, the Vault-Tec rep survived the Great War, and has continued to live 200 years after in the town of Goodneighbor, bemoaning his fate as a lonely monster, stuck in the middle of nowhere, abandoned by the corporation he faithfully served.

And he didn't even get his steak knife loyalty package.

Other interactions[edit | edit source]

  • Once encountered at Hotel Rexford, the representative can be convinced to join the player's settlement at Sanctuary Hills as an expert trader, with a moderate dialogue challenge. Once at Sanctuary Hills, he can be moved to any other settlement using the Move command. When assigned to an emporium, he sells a broad variety of items, including the unique Apocalypse left greave.
  • Unfortunately he has a long dialogue line about "the two of us, here in Sanctuary" that he repeats every time the player comes near, including when he is assigned to a store. Unlike most NPCs, his dialogue cannot be skipped (by clicking), and the trade interface will not open until he finishes.
