Yao guai is a creature in the Commonwealth in 2287.

Background[edit | edit source]

The following section is transcluded from yao guai. To modify, please edit the source page.

Named by descendants of those held in Chinese internment camps before the Great War,[1] yao guai are mutated black bears and one of the more vicious creatures of the wasteland, sporting razor sharp claws and teeth and a nasty temperament.[2] Despite this, yao guai exhibit a gentle, familial bond toward one another when found together, and can even be domesticated.[3] Yao guai will attack nearly any other animals or people they encounter, including deathclaws. A mutation has greatly extended their lifespan, with some yao guai having lived before the Great War.[4]

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Biology[edit | edit source]

Yao guai are typically found in solitude of with another yao guai, wandering the hills and blasted forests of the Commonwealth. Omnivorous by nature, yao guai will eat anything, and their raw strength and incredible speed allows them to hunt anything smaller than them (which includes most other creatures around the wasteland). Their tough hide also makes it difficult for attacks to penetrate and stop the charging bear.

Gameplay attributes[edit | edit source]

Yao guai are a high leveled opponent, able to take lots of damage and inflict just as much. They have several high resistances that deter damage from getting through to them and can deal lots of damage in a single hit. Thankfully, one typically does not encounter more than two of these vicious creatures at the same time, but they remain a serious challenge for lower level characters.

These yao guai are smaller than normal, but by no means are they less deadly. If they ambush, they can catch a low level character by surprise and easily become a serious challenge.
