Duke Nukem

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum." is originally not from Duke Nukem but from the movie They Live. Both games simply referenced the same movie. Ausir(talk) 01:23, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, why not. Ausir(talk) 01:27, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

RP

Hey, thanks for the kind words. I did my best when writing the Emperor's new dialogue (and had fun while doing so). Ye Li was supposed to be a character with similiar underlying themes as Roger Maxson, hence the almost explicit quote. I've decided on the "heart" bit since, well, at that point there was no more history to record - just the apocalypse. I've also tried to weave in as much as possible from what was presented about the pre-war world in all Fallouts, especially Van Buren and Operation Anchorage. Due to the fact that almost no data on the actual sub content exist, I had quite a bit of artistic liberty.
Well, you can blame me for the entirety of the sub - I wrote the design doc for the gameplay, backstory and dialogue outlines. I hope it was a good balance between nudging you in the right direction and allowing you to find stuff out yourself? Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 08:40, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

About your comment

Sorry for doing this in your talk page, but that blog post is alredy forgotten so here's mah awnser... (it might be a wall o' text) I know it is hard to admit (initially, i tried to convince myself that NV was better than F3...) but...actually being forced to choose a perk to find random encounters? (wich, certainly aren't random and aren't encounters, just dirty easter eggs) that's (IMO) retarded, graphics (not so important by the way) are a little better than F3's, F3 was a little more prone to crash during loading screens, BUT NV is a lot (a huge lot) of more prone to crash during gameplay! wich is more annoying.... and i don't need to talk about bugs/glitches, you just need to watch the patches articles....NV will have a lot more of patches than NV because obsidian is a noob company in terms of big games... history? the history is a typical go to find some revenge mixed with amnesia, F3 was less expectable and BOTH of them don't have nothing to do with F1 and 2... companions where much more helpful, cuz they didn't were overpowered (as any in NV is), the capital wasteland was more lonely and ammo was more scarce. and for the locations thing... so if i try to make a super realist game (wich will be ultra-boring) i must sacrifice entertaining places for the sake of realism? PS: im making a list of interesting locations in both games, but when i do it i actually don't know where to public it... thanks for reading this wall o' text. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 22:00, January 25, 2011 (UTC)

Awnser

i know my comment sounded like that...but i don't want to force anyone to think that NV is a bad game, and F3 is better, any one's free to think what they want, i only exposed my WHYs (why is NV inferior to F3 for me) also your comment seemed a little aggresive if you ask me but...maybe i'm just missguiding the awnser, ok, heres my awnser

I didn't knew fallout 2 had a plot about FV virus, the enclave and purification of the water are actually bastly different from the ones inthe first to games, for example in the first you only needed to find a water chip (wich i must say that was a perfect way to send the player to explore the wasteland) and also most of the main quest of F3 is finding WTF happened to LW's dad, i don't know why people whine about F3 being canon...i mean it does not contradict anything about the first to games and if it does every game has plotholes, mostly when they change developers, that doesn't make NV a direct sequel as almost anything of the events of the first game are shown EVEN when the location is pretty near the originals, and also that doesn't changes the fact that the history itself its a go search some revenge and amnesia mix... random encounters make the game much more entertaining, in NV i found my self 90% of the foot-traveling without ANYTHING to shoot except my companions (i just played on hardcore once to get the achievement, because is not a challenge, is an annoyance, the only mildly hard part in annoyance mode is the ammo weight...now i can't rely on my AM rifle as the .50 ammo is the heaviest and i'm forced to carry only a few guns, but that is solved by the incredibly low enemy ratio, in any other fallout when you were traveling you founded interesting stuff, wich made the game more realistic (this is a HUGE counter to the realism of the uninteresting and empty places)...

most people are just defending obsidian because they think that ALL of the crew of the first 2 games is in it...fake, just a (very) small part of what was interplay and black rock isle is there, and i don't think they made the whole game, i don't even think they made a 1% of the game (as the game is big this is quite possible)

if rocksteady made a good game (i have played arkham asylum and is very good) is because they make an effort, when i play NV i see a lot of lazyness, a lot of empty thin shack does not take a lot of effort, does it? or an empty character who just appears in 1 quest and then disappears into nothing-ness?

yes as i said graphics aren't as important so i'm not talking about that, but about the gamebryo engine...i said that on the blog comment, don't blame the engine, bethesda did a almost perfect work compared to obsidian...just watch the patches and bugs article, no need to mention.

AI has never been perfect in any game in videogame history, and will never be, that's right, but i don't blame the AI (it's actually better than F3 one, except for the killed that enemy even when i told him to wait wich is not important most of the time) but i blame them for being unnescesary,as the ammo-enemy ratio is as bad as the karma (i can't finish the game without being very good and it also doesn't affect ANYTHING except for cass), in the first game (wich i own, and im playing but is hell-hard) they where very, but very helpfull, i doubt someone can play the whole game without a companion...

Wasteland not being lonely? it might be more populated in enemy terms, but when i say only i mean in neutral-good people who won't try to wear your bones around his neck (pun), populated citys are very rare (megaton and rivet city are the ones that i remember) while in NV you found friendly NPC's every 3 seconds (not saying it literally tough), i also support you in the fact that Fallout explains almost everything in it's universe with logic and science, but that doesn't mean that a empty, plain shack is realist.

about the ammo, then i don't know, because in my game i probably have enough 5.56mm ammo to go shooting an LMG all around the mojave without waste even half of it, the same for 5mm, any kind of energy cell's, 10mm, .308 and others.

i must admit that vaults in NV have an interesting story, and are a lot more scary, but i liked the plant infested Vault the most and i hated the radiation one...also loved killing all the fiends in vault 3 with riot shotgun LOL, and the powder ganger one was quite BO-RING

PS: please sign the next awnser so i can awnser that faster

PS2: if you are really don't liking this i can stop argueing with you any time, just say it. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 22:49, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

third awnser yay

first. I must thank you for not being a stereotypical fanboy who would judge me for being introduced to fallout by F3, much people will say that i only like modern fallout's and modern games cuz i am immature and...well the typical arguments, i like fallout 1 and 2 but i can't complete them (mostly because i screw up something, or i get randomly atacked in junktown). But i read a lot, i mean A LOT in this wiki, but maybe that's not enough to be knowledgeable about them,

now continuing:

i didn't knew about the FEV plot in F2, then bethesda did recicled the history, i think the NV history could have been better but it's okay, the only think i really don't like is obsidian messing to much with the NCR (i don't like them...not even a bit), almost like if they want them to own all the fallout universe. i actually fighted for independent vegas on my first playtrough, but i accidentally destroyed the securitron army lol, now i'm fighting for house winning, and the next will be fight for caesar's legion, leaving the NCR 'til the end.

F3 being a fallout game, well...it follows the nuclear divergence, vault, great war and more fallout history, i still don't get what does it contradict, it also takes place on the other side of the country wich should be why none of the previous game major events have a really big impact (ya know there is no more newspaper anymore lol)

i also finded a little harsh easter egg about the choosen one's car in NV...that means that he...crashed and died?, that doesn't sound good, its almost like a spit-in-the-face to F2 players, ain't it?

the random encounters are something that i can't forgive, i mean why? why not to add them? maybe they didn't had time but...i just don't know, i enjoy finding funny stuff on the walk a little more entertaining that just listening to radio, wich is not as good as F3s (i mean the songs), just jingle jangle, heartaches by the number and any song by peggy lee...oh and big iron.

no no, ammo weight is not annoying, it actually forces you to take alternatives, wich is good, but the food and water meters are not a challenge, i mean, for water just drink it from a pump/lake/pond/bath, and for meat, bighorners.

what do you mean by when it was just released? i have both games unpatched if thats what you mean, the worst glitch i have seen in F3 was the so-called Daddy long legs wich is hell funny LOL and it happens on NV but more rarely, on NV maybe the worst glitches are the quest freezing ones or the (pretty common) protoplasmic radscorpion, big troubles in big town glitched once for me, but i just loaded a previous save (before starting the quest, unluckily) and it went like normal.

i had Ian...he only shooted me once but damaged me a lot and it was specially annoying because i was being chased by junktown for doing nothing, the artificial stupidity was quite funny, yes.

yeah, in NV the karma doesn't affect nothing, but then why is it there? again a question without awnser, if i wanted to be back to the classic i'll had erased all the new things, reputations affect much more things but at the same time it is easier to win it again unless you get vilifie

actually rivet city is quite big, but megaton naw i doubt they are still alive, they probably got raided in NVs era, i hope moira brown was brutally murdered for making the LW go trough all that, i understand you, it's like the resident evil movies, IF they didn't occupie the RE name, they would be at least generic standable action movies, in F3 they wasted the recon tefta craft with mothership zeta, it was already a good place, for me the best place in F3 might be the MIRV place (for the family history and the father being a glowing one) or the ghoul filled building, the worst might be the tunnels, as they are confusing, long, plain and boring, in NV my favorite place might be one of the vaults but i can't decide, and the worst are every one of the empty thin shacks. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 06:04, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

a little thing

is there really a VAULT DWELLER's note in NV? wow...i feel a little retarded for don't notice that, but maybe that's because the NV articles in this wiki aren't so detailed yet. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 06:09, January 27, 2011 (UTC)

response to your response of my response

killing the Behemoth in the capitol building with the MIRV and seeing how everything blows up. OH...i readed wrong the a vault dweller for the vault dweller, ya know it was the heat of the moment (another pun), the sunset sarsaparilla is a little western touch to new vegas, but i still kinda dislike it for some reason, maybe for the stupid side quest of the legend of the star, ironically the quest that procedes that one is the most F3-like part of NV, as you found a corpse, a note, a (not always tough) unique weapon and a disturbing and dark background, talking about unique weapons, i collected them all in vanilla F3 and i have most of the ones in NV, both of them are really good, i actually like that the unique weapons in NV are far more different that the common weapon they're based off, but i hate the fact that obsidian doesn't offer a good background for the unique weapons (F3 also did this, but with fewer) in this case my base is the Pew-Pew, wich is found in a dark place, near a corpse or skeleton and a weapon, but what about the background? why is the weapon there? was part of the experiment in some way? why did the person died?...

about the canon contradicting: i did knew about the jet, as myron died then why is it there? and why is it even on places where it shouldn't be? but the thing about the utrajet...the maker actually requires vanilla jet (wich he already has), so brahmin dung is not needed (thank god...), but maybe was just a gameplay reason, as in both NV and F3 it is never explained why is there jet when the maker died, but maybe someone stole the recipe, who knows, either way it wouldn't reach the capital wasteland

Wasn't vault-tec hired by the government? that makes it possible for them to have FEV, as a lot of the vaults were just morbid experiments, (wich might be one of the most iconic features of Fallout), so maybe the government was involved and they said why not? also the FEV in F3 is another strain, so ALL the muties are almost the same, they are dumb, they grow in size and stupidity when they age, they are all asexual and they don't have that lip strap wich i dislike a little, minimal small bit, and just because the dumbtant larry wears it lol, but it looks cool on the nightkin.

About the chryslus easter egg: well, as most of the cars in Fallout (all in F3, and most of NV) are nuke-explosives the body could easily be just ash, also if he died a lot of time has passed (but that's ok, there are skeletons wich are supposed to be there since the great war in Fallout), i support the non-canon easter egg then.

I refuse to call those easter eggs random encounters, again, not random (they appear in previously setted places) and not encounters (you just find dead things or objects, just one of them, the alien blaster one wich is an irony, you know encounters), they add more flavor to the walking, as in NV i can't find anything to shoot for a long while, they would have GREATLY helped the boringness of traveling on lonesome roads (pun again). the reputation based ones are glitched for me, no rangers/assasins chase me, until i fix my reputation with that faction, and then they say that they forgive me and i'm like WTF?

About glitches: Really? it never happened to me, neither the mid-ground radscorpion glitch wich is the most common glitch of all times in NV, i have vanilla, unpatched, no DLCs, never gave problems to me, and i starting to miss my ol' painless a little lol, a perfect glitch for NV would be a random NPC saying I AM ERROR lololol.

yes in F3 karma was reversible, but what is the point of making it hard-to-reverse in NV when you win it constantly even when you don't want it, to be at least neutral i have to do this, find a owned terminal, A, B, A, B, A, B. repeat 100 times...

I love the F1 style ending in NV, something that F3 really needed, it actually makes you fill proud/bad in some places, but most of the endings are associated with bugged quests... (a note to this is that i completed 100% of the side and unmarked quests in F3 and in NV i have only like 3 or 4 left)

i loved blowing megaton LOL the only downside was the huge karma loss, but is one of the best mushroom clouds i have ever seen in the videogames, even tough, a good part of the little populated settlements in F3 was that when you finded them you where glad and proud to finally see some friendly people, even the three huggers in oasis, in NV they are much more common so nah.

yes, aliens are not important in fallout, but tefta recon craft was a pretty good place, mothership zeta ruined it, and they will probably relase an Area 51 DLC for NV...

and finally, i didn't meant the underworld, i actually would like to flame all of the ghouls for calling me smoothskin, i mean the place where theres a ghoul cult and a lot of notes and terminals with the story of someone who turned into a glowing one. MIRV is most probably not canon, maybe neither the Fat man is, but is fun to blow things with it...well in F3, as in NV C4 is much more effective in ANY sense, wich ironically DOES NOT MAKES SENSE, obsidian shouldn't have added something when its no longer useful and they gonna nerf it, Chinese stealth armor, Fat Man and karma are examples, i like the VATS and damage treshold system, as in F3 i used VATS literally alway (grim reaper sprint + 75% taken damage reducement made the game soooooo easy), the only stupid thing about the new VATS is that you actually have a delay between acepting targets and your character shooting, wich will be deadly if you are being swarmed by cazadores, and also if mysterious stranger/miss fortune glitches, you have 0.0000000001% chances to live, wich was probably why the 75% damage measure was in F3, i also love the craft your ammo system, except for lead... WHY DO YOU MAKE IT READ 0 WEIGHT WHEN IT ACTUALLY CAN WEIGHT A LOT IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH? i once had 100 pounds of pure lead, i had to give them to my companions...

Text Bomb INCOMING!!!

Actually the Vault 87 strain makes the muties grow in size and stupidity, that's why the behemoths don't talk and just growl, and thats why there's different kinds of mutants (normal muties are young, masters are a little old, overlords are almost behemoths and behemoths are probably the only original vault inhabitants survivors, excepting fawkes, who is probably an overlord by the time, or his intelligence stopped the mutations), talking about fawkes...god bless him! all my anterior companions had died in the hands of raiders with sawed-off shotguns, i survived MIRVing the capitol building aming to the head in VATS, that was some funny shit, everyone died except for the mutie master on a high scaffold, to avoid nuking my companions to death (the robot, fawkes and dogmeat) i told them to wait right on the entrance so they covered up a lot of enemies while i sneaked (stealth boy) trough the rooms, then i shooted the behemoth with the dart gun (i really miss that one >:( ) and then MIRVed the hell out of everyone in the room.

About the DT and DR thing: Well NV has actually both (rebreather and slasher) but DR is poorly implemented, i like DT because it is more reallist i mean if you have a power armor bullets won't go trough 100% of the time, but even when they don't you get a 20% of the damage, to simulate the kinectic energy released by the impact. the only thing that is effective agains everything is the riot shotgun, and as NPC's have it in the final battle is quite annoying :/

About the nuka cola, yes i have readed about the bawls guarana and as the article said, many fans disliked it, but also i have a question, shouldn't every drink in Fallout taste horrible? i mean they have been there 200 years, it's a miracle that they even exist.

i hope that obsidian adds more and better casinos in DLCs, as the ones in the game are really boring, i mean the trailer showed that there were to be like (at least) 10 casinos, and the new vegas area would be much more big, but what can i do...

Jackals and Vipers are nice links to the first game, and they add something to shoot every...50 minutes of walk but if you don't know about the first game (like me) you say WTF? wouldn't it be easier to call them raiders?. now when i readed about them, i understanded and it gave a little background of them, but what's the point? not an important faction, maybe a little joke on the F1 players....

Obsidian isn't stupid, is greedy, if it gives them money they will do it, and if they didn't added it to the core game was just lazyness, as it could be a Vault-like area with no (live) aliens and a lot of easter eggs...that would be a pretty good place, even replacing the brotherhood dirty bunker or an ex-enclave base!

about the nerfing, i meant that obsidian nerfed THE FATMAN so horribly that a pack of C4 makes much more damage and i have a very very low explosives skill, i even headshoted the legendary deathclaw with it and it only cripled it's legs...freakin unbelieavable, but C4 reduced almost half of his life.

PS: if i don't take the good option for quests then i don't get the good stuff, and in most of the quests there is no bad option

PS2: i know that not all the side quest appear on the ending, but as ALL quests are bugged it doesn't matter, i got the bad ending for raul just for the ranger andy bug!!!!

PS3: i don't patch either game because i have a shitty internet, and no wireless adapter for my 360. i can live with it in F3 but in new vegas i would like to patch it...

Quite late response

sorry for awnsering too late LOL, i was playing Die2nite and trying to play TF2 on this damn shitty pc...but it can't even run steam without freezing 80% of the time...and it's not even bad, it's average-almost high for a laptop in my country, but the hardware is so fucked that it makes noises...i don't know when this thing is gonna blow on my face... BTW that is off-topic now lets go to the text nuke:

Ok, then the mutants in F3 and FOBOS are off the way, even tough the idea of FEV in a vault sounds good after all...i mean every vault is twisted in some bizarre ways...i don't even know what to expect in the nex Fallout...of course the online doesn't count (either bethesda or interplay is gonna make it for ze moneyz) as it will be WoW with guns and SPECIAL system...talking about SPECIAL, is just me or NV has the WORST SPECIAL system in all fallout game existing? i mean...1 SPECIAL point for 2 skill ones? seriously? wow...in each game the SPECIAL gets worse, as i recall in F1 a single SPECIAL points adds like...10 or something like that, then why? the only way some atributes are nessesary in NV are the SPECIAL checks or the luck if you wan't to earn the courier who broke the bank or high crit-ratio.

ooooh...the jackals and vipers aren't so linked to F1 then...but anyway it is good to have something to shoot...and when i said the wouldn't it be easier to call them raiders? that was my tought when i first saw them

about the are 51, no no more enclave i know, at least not LIVE enclave, when i said ex-enclave i mean something like...i don't know governmet conspiracys and shit like that on the base, notes, probably some easter eggs, alien bodys/technology, side quests...A LIVING NUKE TO DETONATE BWAHAAHHAHAHAHA...oh wait i got a little too megaton, the only big way i like the enclave in NV is the power armor...so great, the only bad thing is that is not grayish white like the one for talking heads in the originals.

i don't like the explosives skill, i am not good for anything related to explosives, i find them a good way to destroy clusters of enemys but not to destroy singles, the only one i like is the C4...i took my first deathclaw mother with it, and i was low level so i got a huge adrenaline rush LOL (it is so funny to hunt deathclaws, bad thing they don't respawn).

a huge improvement from F3 is the weapons, there is a LOT more variety with them, and each one looks great and has different uses, but i am a anti-material sniper lol, i just carry other weapons for backup or just because i like them, even tough the uniques that i don't need i keep them on the weapon box in the lucky 38 suite. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 06:01, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Ya know what is this anyway

yeah, i've seen the sprite version, but the talkin heads one looked white/gray or something like that, actually maybe an armor customisation system doesn't sound bad, because sometimes i get tired of looking the same costume over and over and over.

about the low intelligence, lol i did it once and it unlocks a bit of funny dialogue with some NPC's but is not much :/ and the implants...i got 9 endurance and then buyed every one of them, but still the SPECIAL implants...don't help in nothing as they just add 2 skill points...the regenerative and DT ones are very good, even tough when my character is naked i can hear the sound of bullets hiting metal LOL.

i took the WW trait once...a waste of a trait in my opinion, most of the easter eggs are funny but then what? you forget about them and keep playing as if nothing happened...a lot of good references, but not well implemented, and no, the alien blaster encounter is not funny :( i like the YCS more than the alien-ikilleverythingwith1shot-blaster, i only used it to clear the deathclaw promontory when i am not in the hunting mood...or i don't want to risk ED-E exploding lol, i keep thinking that a vault-like area in the area 51 would be fun...or at least it will be a good place to hide some easter eggs.

and i didn't know about the V13 being the last one built, then it is a plothole, but the FEV in a vault is quite disturbing, fitting the vualt atmosphere, specially for the failed super mutants and all the records in the terminals. --That dude with an unoriginal user name 00:24, February 7, 2011 (UTC)

lets end this like GENTLEMENS!

running low on titles and...on everything, i don't have any arguments left, and i don'think you do, it actually got boring afte a while... so...we take this as a tie or get to a conclusion?

Really?

because it actually got boring after a while, for my conclusion NV could have been better implemented in a lot of things, but is ok, even when it has a lot of spaces with nothing to shoot or nothing interesting and a lot of bugs i must admit that they added a lot of good mechanics, the craft-your-bullets and other stuff and that without mentioning the weapons that are much more fun to shoot, specially since you can modifie them, but not all weapons can... wich darkens a little the concept. if obsidian ever makes another fallout game i expect it to have interesting locations and less bugs, or at least not so HAHA YOU GOT STUCK IN A MISSION ones and if they don't...then i was right, they are lazy and probably CTRL+C + CTRL+V everything in the previous fallout, and in that case they don't deserve any freakin' respect from any fallout gamer ever.--That dude with an unoriginal user name 05:37, February 9, 2011 (UTC)

Finale

it was a joke dude

pff.. it was almost as if i sended you a rick-roll'd video get it?

Sweet Pic

While I feel Bethesda did a fine job, i also started playing at Fallout 3. Anyway, that picture is very truthful, and I agree it should be Fallout 3 and Fallout: D.C., not the other way around. Also, how did you make that? --Valoopy
