Doc Mitchell is a surgeon and doctor living in Goodsprings in 2281.

−
−
Background
−
Mitchell was born in Vault 21, where he was known by the nickname "Mole Butt" by the younger residents. He left at some point after it was opened, becoming a traveling doctor to help the people of the wasteland. As Mitchell got older, he returned to New Vegas and married his childhood sweetheart. Some time afterward, he retired to Goodsprings, serving as the town doctor.

−
−
His wife died at some point, but he doesn't dwell on the past. If you have visited Vault 21 and talk to Mitchell again, he will explain that he was going to California with his wife. Due to the weak immune system she had from living in a vault her whole life, she passed away in Goodsprings, causing Mitchell to settle down there so he could always remain close to her.

Quests
−
* Ain't That a Kick in the Head: Doc Mitchell is ultimately responsible for saving the Courier's life after Benny leaves them for dead. Awakening from the coma, Doc Mitchell runs numerous procedures and tests to make sure the Courier is 'alright.' This serves as a milieu for character building, as well.

−
* Ghost Town Gunfight: Mitchell provides the defending residents with stimpaks and/or 2 doctor's bags to help defend against the Powder gangers.

−
* Run Goodsprings Run: The player can persuade Mitchell to give them stimpaks to help the Powder Gangers with Medicine 25.

−
−
Other interactions
−
* Mitchell revives the player after being found by Victor, and sets the characters stats for the game with help of the Vit-o-matic Vigor Tester. He then gives the player a set of weapons (depending on your tagged skills), a Vault 21 jumpsuit (either his own or his late wife's, depending on your gender), and his old Pip-Boy 3000. If the player has one of the pre-order packs , or Courier's Stash installed, the items will be added when the game begins, though can't be accessed until Mitchell gives the player the Pip-Boy 3000.

−
* Prior to leaving the house for the first time, the player can also gain an additional 3 stimpaks by passing a Medicine check (30). An additional Speech check (30) can be completed after the initial medicine check to gain 2 additional stimpaks, again this must be done before leaving the house the first time.

−
** Both skill checks reward 30 XP for a total of 60 XP, or 70 if the 9mm submachine gun is also repaired.

Vit-o-matic comments
−
Mitchell's dialog is influenced by the Courier's choice of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes.

If you have several attributes at one extreme, he will still only comment on one of them. For example, with Strength and Intelligence at 10, he will comment on Intelligence.

Notes
−
* The flag that flies above Doc Mitchell's house would indicate some connection to the Commonwealth and the State of Nevada, as this State flag has the added text "South west Commonwealth".

−
* If in the word test you say human shield, Doc Mitchell will mention how disturbing your answers are.

−
* None of the items in his home are flagged as being owned, nor will he care if you take something from in front of him.

−
* If you pick a female character, he will mention you are about the same size as his late wife when giving you the Vault jumpsuit.

−
* One of his ink blots bears a remarkable resemblance of two bears high-fiving. This has its own homage as seen in Honest Hearts with the Two-Bears-High-Fiving Wild Wasteland occurrence.

−
* In the strip's Vault 21, Sarah tells you that Doc. Mitchell's old nickname was "Mole-Butt", though it does not have any effect on his dialogue options.

−
* When Doc Mitchell says he knows what it means to lose something, he is talking about losing Vault 21 to Mr. House rather than talking about his wife.

Template documentation (for the template shown above, sometimes hidden or invisible)

This is a navbox, a grouping of links used in multiple related articles to facilitate navigation between those articles.

Based on Navbox.

Usage

Displaying the navbox

Insert the following at the bottom of the article to display the navbox:

Navbox power armor

Editing the navbox

The most frequently used parameters for editing the navbox are listed below. For full documentation, please see Navbox.

Parameter or Parameter Range Required Default Description
{} Yes This parameter should always be set to {} (see the example under "Usage"). It allows the layout of the navbox to be changed so it fits inside another navbox, if the parameter is set to "nested" from within the other navbox.
blockA → blockH No Content of block cells. blockA appears left of the groupA parameters and so forth. If no group or content fields in this block have been specified, the block is not displayed either.
contentA1 → contentH8 No Lists of links. Make sure that links point directly to the intended pages (i.e. not to redirects) so the current page is properly marked in the template. It is recommended to sort links in each cell alphabetically for reader convenience.

For standard (horizontal) rows, separate individual links with dot. For columns, use unnumbered lists (inserted with *).

editlink Neutral The name of the template page; used to generate the "view"/"edit"/"discuss" links. You can use when creating the template. If no editlink is specified, the "view"/"edit"/"discuss" links will not be displayed.
footer No Text of the footer, i.e. a row at the very bottom of the navbox.
groupA1 → groupH8 No Content of group cells. groupA1 appears to the left of contentA1 (or above it when in column mode) and so forth. If a group field has been specified, the corresponding content becomes mandatory. For example, if groupD3 has been set, you need to set contentD3 as well.
headerA → headerH No Content of header rows. headerA appears above contentA1, headerB appears above contentB1 and so forth. If the block is collapsible, this becomes mandatory as it is the text which remains visible when collapsed.
image No Allows to specify images which should be displayed to the right (image) or left (imageleft) of the whole navbox content. Simply enter the file name without "File:". If the blocks in the navbox are collapsible, these images will remain visible even if all blocks are collapsed (but will not be visible if the navbox itself is collapsed). Be careful not to make the images too large or you risk visual oddities.
imageleft
options No This parameter allows to specify options which apply to the navbox itself or all blocks inside. Multiple options can be specified at once; simply separate them with commas (,).

Commonly used choices:

 • collapsiblegroups: This makes all blocks within the navbox collapsible and collapsed on page load. Can be overriden for individual blocks by setting the block-specific option parameter (see below) to "uncollapsed".
 • columns: This turns all blocks into column-type blocks, i.e. blocks where the links are listed from top to bottom instead of from left to right.
 • uncollapsedgroups: This makes all block within the navbox collapsible and uncollapsed on page load. Can be overriden for individual blocks by setting the block-specific option parameter (see below) to "collapsed".
position No bottom Intended positioning of the navbox in article pages. Also influences default width and collapse behaviour.

Available options:

 • bottom: The navbox is supposed to be put at the end of articles; full width, collapses.
 • left: The navbox is supposed to be put on the left side of articles with text flowing around it; thin navbox, not collapsible.
 • right: The navbox is supposed to be put on the right side of articles with text flowing around it; thin navbox, not collapsible.
title Yes The title or caption of the navbox.
