OK so that is about as much as I could do with the time offered. It's not all I wanted it to be but I enjoyed dreaming up the shop, characters, related quests.

I hope folks enjoy reading it.

The Pandorioum is not yet ready to share I am working to have it completed before Feb. 23.

  • Can't we please, please, please just hold off final looks to the 28th?

5 days could allow all to put the polish on their shops.

The end of the month Feb 28

Yes believe it or not I have already cut back a great measure of my original ambition. The month has just proved problematic. Full of bad timing.

  • Still the Devil is in the details & it just seems all would be better severed with the benefit of the whole month.

Possible Relic of the War That Wasn't Suggestion - Again

Hey there Chad. We were talking about industrial uses of diamonds in chat, and I remembered an interesting bit of history from the Cold War, more specifically, the early space race. Although not directly relating to the war, the 1961 Mohole Project was an attempt to drill all the way into the Mohorovicic Discontinuity, the layer of earth separating the earth's crust and mantle. The project was supposed to bring as much attention to Earth science as astronomical science was then getting, but ended up being a failure. While the first phase of the plan was completed, support for the project dwindled before phase two could start, and it was abandoned. Neat stuff I think! And even if you don't think it is worthy of being a true war relic, it is still a neat read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Mohole VictorFaceMonitor Victor the Insane Cowboy Robot 05:43, June 27, 2012 (UTC)

Question

Does the Relic of the War that wasn't "corner" have to be about weaponry, vehicles or safe deposits (like nuclear deposits, to say) or can it be everything else, as long as it affected Cold War a bit (let's say there was a secret project that was testing people on what they ate - how they behave (not true, of course))?

I looked up for some information and found a part about some chemical experiments in a prison. While it is quite shocking, it might be something worth. What do you think (just read the part about Holmesbug State Prison)? Energy X (talk) 20:49, June 28, 2012 (UTC)

Hey

Hey Chad. I have some news for the Relic of the week.

From an article on television, during the Cold War, the US, being challenged from Soviet Union because the Soviets were surperior in Space Technology, the US had in mind to create an atomic bomb that would explode when it would've reached the Moon! It was called Project A119, and it would've been initiated around 1950s.

Dire, but interesting news, don't you think? Energy X 17:51, November 29, 2012 (UTC)

Very well. Also, can I be FOLIO3's mentor? Seems I have been inactive lately. Here. Energy X 21:45, November 29, 2012 (UTC)

Possible proposal for Nukapedia New's Cold War section?

Hi! I have a possible proposal for your blog's Cold War section, not sure if you already know or even wrote about it. It's about "Project Pluto", which set out develop a) a kind of cruise missile capable of dropping a dozen or so nuclear warheads and b) its nuclear powered ramjet engine. It's as messy and nuclear as it gets:

Main portal game icons

I think those main portal game icons should be aligned below each other. The second line is stretched too much now. Then I prefer the remove the PV13 game icon and have 2 lines of 4 games. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:27, February 16, 2013 (UTC)

On the other portals, similar to the main portal game icons, we could add 2 rows of 5 (or 6?) icons. The first row (main game +) add-on icons and the second row Characters, Locations, Weapons, Quests, Items buttons. Something like that could be worth a try to add a bit more color and newity to them. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:44, February 16, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not opposed to the idea of a canceled games portal. But I'm worried how that portal would look like. Then you'd have several games of which the overview contents needs a place. Can you give me an idea how that portal would look like? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:42, February 17, 2013 (UTC)
You've done some good thinking on these portals. Since I'm a member (almost 2,5 years) the format and contents has been the same. It's time for an upgrade. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:55, February 17, 2013 (UTC)

Canceled games

Hi Chad. It looks great! In particular, I think it'll be helpful as a centre of information for a relatively obscure sector of the wiki's covered content. I myself don't even know that much about any of the cancelled games, and if I were curious this would be a great resource. On a side note, I think the wiki's American English conformity would stipulate that "canceled" be used =P --Skire (talk) 21:38, February 17, 2013 (UTC)

Mm, I'm having second thoughts about removing the PV13 ande maybe Van Buren portal. If we ditch them we throw away two portals with a lot of character/item/stat links, which would be a bit of a shame. How about 2 rows of 5 game icons on the main page. Top row FO1, FO2, FO3, FNV and FO4, bottom row FOT, FOBOS, VB, PV13 and Other canceled games. Then the PV13 and VB portals stay intact and reachable with one click, while it makes room on the Canceled games portal for more content links. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:40, February 18, 2013 (UTC)

ADB

Hello, Chad. This is a message that I will be circulating through Nukapedia's Sysops. A while back I had created a more suitable version of the Administrators' Discussion Board as an attempt to help regulate important matters that require immediate attention from the veteran users around Nukapedia. With Fallout 4 on the horizon, I would like to begin making this feature more widely embraced, so that we all are more comfortable and familiar with using it for when the time comes around that we'll need to look towards it the most. What I would like to see is for an example to be set for where certain matters should be discussed within our community, as well as creating an environment where users will know that their issues will be addressed in a timely and fair manner. What does this mean, exactly?

  • Appropriate topics should be addressed within the ADB instead of the normal fora space. Not only is the ADB a general area to condense important topics, but it is also always kept at the top for easy access. (As well as having a place within the Community Messages.)
  • All Administrators, Moderators, Patrollers, and Bureaucrats should make it a priority to check through the ADB at least once every few days or so. This is the duty of mantling the extra tools, after all, and is not too much to ask for.
  • The ADB should make an appearance within new user's welcome message.
  • If a topic within the fora has been made that is of significant importance and affects the wiki as a whole, these topics should be moved into the ADB.
    • It is my hope that these requirements will help our community become more familiar with where they should go to have their grievances and ideas properly heard. Right now, the ADB has been largely ignored because the Sysops have also largely ignored it, and this is unacceptable at times when important matters such as this one are mostly by-passed except for a couple of people. With the chaos that is soon to come with the new title(s), all I am asking is for a bit of responsibility in making sure that we all recognize issues and ideas as they come up, and making sure that we do our parts in seeing them through. Thank you for reading, and I would greatly appreciate some feed-back. Once a general consensus has been reached, possible changes will be taken care of.

ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:04, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

  • "This brings the impression that the board is just for administrators..."
    • I understand. A name-change is always an option. Suggestions are welcome.
  • "The current location of that forum piece is Wiki discussion..."
    • One of the changes that I will be making is also sticking it to the wiki proposals and applications. Those two locations along with being in the community messages should be enough. (And possibly my other suggestion of being added in the welcome messages.)
  • "...the ADB is harder to find..."
    • This is what I'm attempting to change. It is not hard to find at all, it's just largely ignored.
  • "...and leaves the wiki discussion forum as a rump forum full of what are presumably unimportant items."
    • There is indeed a difference between a topic that affects the entirety of the wiki, and a topic that is only important to the writer and those that might possibly be interested in the topic themselves.
  • "I think what we need to do is pause and rethink. What is the ADB for, and what differenciates it from the current Wiki discussion, and proposals boards?"
    • Like I have already mentioned, the ADB is a hub for all topics that affect the wiki itself in some form or another. Whether this means new ideas for innovation, to complaints of Sysop mis-behaviour, to even having grievances with pre-existing guidelines/policies. Nothing more and nothing less.
  • "To me, the ADB would be the perfect place for us to discuss the application of existing policy. Does x count as vandalism, when is a meme an annoying meme, when do we move out of ban guidelines, etc."
    • That is already a proposed example of the ADB's purpose. As long as the topic requires Sysop attention, it belongs on the ADB.
  • "On this basis, I would suggest moving it onto the main forum page, rather than through a subforum."
    • You are absolutely correct. That is already an idea I plan on implementing once I have gained feedback.
  • "The ADB has no place in welcome messages either at the moment, or with my suggestion. It is not of immeditae interest to the new user, any more so than any other forum."
    • I disagree. Whether anyone here wants to admit it or not, Nukapedia has always had a problem with getting the good word out. New users should have the means to realize where important matters need to be, along with knowing where to go to gather the attention of users that can actually help them. I've seen it time and time again: Users complaining because they're never able to get any help, or even realizing where to go for help.
  • "As you know, I am putting some thought into how the community portal may be renovated, perhaps encouraging people into participating in "Wiki governmence" is a feature that this could include."
    • Agreed.

ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:44, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

Makes enough sense to me. I am mostly just attempting to work towards a legitimate system of having a single place where Sysops will know where to check for modern issues. You remember from before that I was trying to get a working script up and running which would allow us to tag certain forums and each new message/update would alert the Administrations. Well, that hasn't become reality, so I'm turning back to the ADB. Especially when I have gone through our past, and seen how The Vault is currently running. This is our chance to start up some initiative for once over user-satisfaction. We've now rid ourselves of most of the antagonistic old timers as seen on NMA. Let's keep striking the metal while it's hot. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:07, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

WhiteSunGlasses

After seeing the messages on my talk page, I have reviewed the chat ban of this user, as requested. I have upheld the ban placed on him. I do want to communicate to the mods in chat at the time that I would prefer, in the event that a user is breaking rule #7 by "testing a mod's patience", that some kind of warning be given. Enforcement rule #7 in this fashion usually does not immediately follow some kind of gross offense. I believe it's fair to allow the user to consider his actions after a warning before further irritation results in a ban. On the subject of abusing multiple accounts, I have already checked this particular user's information for links to any banned accounts and have not found any. Until such time that direct evidence of any user abusing multiple accounts is found, I ask that any suspicions not be brought to bear in disciplinary actions. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:24, March 5, 2013 (UTC)

Hey, C! I'm feeling the "programmer's itch", so, are you still interested in a bot for collecting references? Project sounds really interesting, let's see what we can see. Let me know, if you have a particular category on your mind. --Theodorico (talk) 02:56, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

  • Ref list: I think the initial plan (collect refs and dump them into a sandbox) is good enough for the beginning. Maybe, we'll get some ideas by looking at the result. ;) I'll take care of this during this weekend.
  • Slider: Well... partially. At this moment, I can trim it down, but due to a merciless nature of this procedure, we'll have to resize all portal images to be exactly 654x360 px. Just to clarify: we don't have to distort them - padding with transperent pixels will do the trick. This is quite annoying, but luckily, there will be only a limited amount of such images. If there's no hurry, then I'd like to take some more time to think this over again, maybe I'll get a better idea.
--Theodorico (talk) 00:48, March 8, 2013 (UTC)
By the way, don't you think, that maybe it's time to move it into a real Portal: page? You know, theory is good, but it'd be great to see the whole picture. --Theodorico (talk) 01:10, March 8, 2013 (UTC)

Slider

Ok, css stuff is in the place. So, all you need to do is add

<div class="np-portal-slider-envelope">....</div>

around the slider. I managed to squeeze a few more pixels out of it, so now images should be 664x360px, sharp. By the way, I tested {{Rotating content}} with multiple sliders, and everything seems pretty normal to me. With this said, my job is done.
