Fallout Wiki

Hi Jorge,

We have been discussing the Alliances in a bit of detail... I do have a few concerns... First is I'm not entirely sure what benefits/obligations the alliance offers... and second is where to place us, whilst Fallout is "Science Fiction" as most people understand the term, our natural links are more with the Elder Scrolls Wiki, a wiki for Stick of Truth, Project: Eternity, and Wasteland.... only one of those is in the Sci Fi bracket... I'd be happy to repeat a bit of news from their sites rather than report seperately.

That said, I am concerned about the external perception of Nukapedia, I don't want us to get some insular reputation... Maybe this is something I have to see in practice to understand better... Is there any more information you can give us to help sell it to others? (George Jones/Lizzunchbox has my Email if you want to get in touch dirrect) Agent c (talk) 21:16, January 31, 2013 (UTC)

Good questions all around. Wikis who join an Alliance will also be promoted in a couple of different ways. Your wiki will be added to the Alliance landing page (wikia.com/Alliance), you'll be promoted on your topic's hub page (wikia.com/Video Games), and you'll also be talked about on Wikia's Twitter and Facebook pages.
If you're having trouble choosing what Alliance you should join, remember that you can be in as many as you want, and the definitions are very broad. The Heroes United Alliance is for wikis who feel their topic is about a Hero or Heroes (think Marvel, Harry Potter, etc.). The Fantasy Alliance is for wikis who live in a fantasy world with dragons and magic or talking animals, etc. (Think Harry Potter, Warrior Cats, etc. Sci-Fi folks are interested in space and science (Tardis, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc). I think Fallout could fit in Fantasy just fine if that's what you all would prefer.
The only obligation is to include the badge that appears on the Alliance page. We always put it top-right, but we won't check on it or anything if you moved it somewhere else on the mainpage.
Also, you can leave the Alliance at any time just by removing the badge. Nor are you required to join at all if that's your preference too. It's just an optional thing we thought you might find rewarding.
Hope that helps!

Game Guides App

Hi Jeorge, Hope you're well.

I'm looking at ways we can take control of/improve Nukapedia's layout on the Game Guide's app... Looking at some custom categories to control presentation, etc. Was wondering if you might have any thoughts or suggestions you could offer? We have a forum open here.

Thanks for any insight you can offer. Agent c (talk) 20:45, May 5, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jorge... Thanks for your advice, I've started moving some of the quests into new categories to help organise things. Just on a related subject, we have some content that doesn't display particularly well in the app... Its a quest flowchart (the text appears, but the visual elements dont appear limiting the usefulness of this). Is there any wikicode that we can put in to "hide" nonworking wiki code from the app on a page (like Noinclude does for transclusion), or are you aware of any flowchart templates that work with the app? Heyo. Re: the flowchart, I actually don't know. But I'll go ahead and forward your question to the product team, maybe they'll know. Can you send me a link to the page in question?

Chart

I've got an example of a relatively simple one here; This is the Destroy the source of the Mutants quest. Other pages have much more complicated ones with multiple paths, etc. Agent c (talk) 16:47, May 13, 2013 (UTC)

Cool. I'll forward this long right now. Jorge (profile)•(talk) 17:04, May 13, 2013 (UTC)
Hey there Agent C, here's their response as to the page:
Thanks for the heads up. The reason the quick walkthrough looks like this is because we don't allow custom css in any of the mobile products. And this won't change any time. So to solve this problem most effectively they would need to:
  • change table to ul element
  • change tr/td elements to li elements
  • to achieve the vertical line efect use
    ::after
    pseudo element
This will render on mobile skin as an ordered list that serves the core purpose of the list and also is more semantically correct.
I'm not sure what all of that means, but if you need help, we have some folks who can give better insight than I. Hope that helps! Jorge (profile)•(talk) 22:03, May 13, 2013 (UTC)
Not much sense to me, but I know some folks who might be able to translate. ThanksAgent c (talk) 22:13, May 13, 2013 (UTC)
