I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 8:12, Marcella's Terminal

The Abbey of the Road is a Christian monastery somewhere west of the Commonwealth.[1] It raises then sends out missionaries to spread the faith.[2] Marcella, one of these missionaries,[3] can be met in Point Lookout. It also retrieves religious relics, but that is a secondary objective.[4] Its location is secret, and if you ask Marcella the location, she will refuse.[5]

Appearances[edit | edit source]

The Abbey of the Road is mentioned only in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

  • The Abbey of the Road may refer to the abbey in the novel A Canticle for Leibowitz, which plays a similar role seeking out religious relics in a post-apocalyptic world.
  • It may also refer to the album "Abbey Road," released by the Beatles in 1969. The name may also reference Abbey Road Studios where The Beatles recorded all of their albums.

Marcella: "We try to improve the state of the Wasteland by doing good where we can and by spreading the word of the Bible. We also recover and restore religious relics that we can find, but that's a secondary goal."

Marcella: "Right, I'm from the Abbey of the Road. I'm afraid its location is secret, however."
