This here's where folks go when their luck runs out. Drifters up from the Republic, locals that can't turn a dime, drunken reprobates from all around.Captain Parker on the Aerotech Office Park

The Aerotech Office Park is a location in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Serving as corporate offices before the Great War, by 2281, the area has been converted into a shelter for refugees and people down on their luck, from NCR drifters to locals who cannot find work to the displaced.[1] Many are hopefuls who tried to make it big on the Strip, only to wind up losing all of their money, to the point they don't even have the means to return home. Some try to find honest work in Vegas to make enough money back to move on, but most remain stuck in a perpetual cycle of hopelessness, exploited by crooked merchants taking what little they have left.[2][Non-game 1] Despite efforts, many of the refugees are further exploited through chems and crooked gambling.[3]

The NCR has tried to provide the basic necessities, including shelter, water, food, and basic medical care, but the shortage of personnel makes it difficult for the overseer of the camp, Captain Parker, to protect everyone, forcing him to ask for outside help when people began disappearing from the camp entirely.[4] One of the Followers of the Apocalypse, Bert Gunnarsson ministers to those trapped at Aerotech, although unable to change the situation on his own.[4][2]

Layout[]

Situated east of Camp McCarran and southeast of the NCR sharecropper farms, the office park is walled off from the wasteland by scrap fences and rubble. The entrance can be found on the northern wall. The main door is very tall, approximately three times taller than the Courier. A large courtyard is located in the center, with tree stumps, broken streetlights, barrel fires, derelict cars, and piles of refuse.

Upon entering the area, to the left is an inaccessible building and three dumpsters containing minor loot. In the southeastern corner is Aerotech suite 200 and on the opposite side of the courtyard in the southwestern corner is Aerotech suite 300. The Aerotech tent, the NCR base of operations, is located in the northwest corner, in front of another inaccessible building.

  1. The Courier: "What exactly is this place?"
Captain Parker: "This here's where folks go when their luck runs out. Drifters up from the Republic, locals that can't turn a dime, drunken reprobates from all around. If you don't have the caps to get onto the Strip, odds are you'll end up here."
    (Captain Parker's dialogue)
  2. 2.0 2.1 The Courier: "What's the deal with all these refugees?"
Bert Gunnarsson: "Poor lost souls, most of them. They thought to come to New Vegas and find their fortunes on its shining Strip. But the journey is often long, and the price to enter the city is steep. Those who could not pay ended up here, hoping to earn the caps they need. Some find honest labor, but more fritter away what little they've saved on crooked gambling and cheap liquor. Still, I minister to them as I can."
    (Bert Gunnarsson's dialogue)
  3. The Courier: "Tell me about this 'Keith.'"
Captain Parker: "Keith's a two-bit hustler, he runs a gambling operation out of his shack. Ask me, he wins way too often to be playing fair. I suspect he's running drugs, too, I just can't prove it. Maybe you can find something - talk to him, poke around his shack, something."
    (Captain Parker's dialogue)
  4. 4.0 4.1 The Courier: "Sounds like a chaotic place. Is there any way I can help?"
Captain Parker: "Well, I am a little short staffed. Maybe you could give me a hand. Some people have gone missing from the camp lately. Haven't seen any signs of violence or heard about any feuds, they just up and vanished. I've also got Keith and his gambling to deal with - I know that skunk's cheating folk out of their savings, I just can't prove it."
    (Captain Parker's dialogue)
