Chickenoflight

Hey Skire. I though personally that Chickenoflight actions were indeed bannable offenses yet I couldn't do that myself so I left the notice instead. I just actually jumped into chat to see if an admin could take care of it. Nice hit though Skire. Side note though, even though you banned the user, he still seems to be sitting in chat. Not sure if you want him kicked or something as I know a ban should disallow chat aswell - unless I have misunderstood wiki bans all this time >_> Anyways, see you around Skire! --The Old World Relics (talk/blog/contributions) 21:37, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Votes

This will be a circulating message to all users that expressed their opinions over my recent discussion and vote. Please make sure to update your votes accordingly to this new information:

  • Info-box Mk.II - For those of you wanting to see an example first, an example for how the changes will look (Keep in mind that this example is in its most basic form.) can now be found here. If a positive community consensus is reached, the new design will become functional here and the community can decide from there whether the final design is appropriate or not on Nukapedia.
  • JunkRadio - I would like to share a quote from the JunkRadio designer himself: I was thinking of adding it to the top left or bottom left corner of the wiki. I can give it absolute positioning, which means that it will display on the top left, regardless of screen resolutions. If necessary, I can make it scroll down with the page as well, although this might distract users from reading the actual pages. - Mark van Alphen
    • Thank you for reading, and I'll be looking forward to gathering everyone's final opinion over these new changes. Due to the overwhelming support so far for all three changes, only needing minor points to update them for clarity, the vote will continue as normal, and will end on the 23rd as scheduled. If you would like to dispute this, please leave your concerns and reasons behind them over my talk-page. Happy editing! ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:03, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

Bots

Yup. It sure would go faster with a bot. But, as far as I know, Nick's using AWB, which can't use regexes to make changes like these. I'll message him, but I think we'll have to do these by hand. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:13, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, but I think we're good. I did have some problems editing some of the blog comments. Some would allow me to edit them, some not. Got any ideas? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:44, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Still Here

Responding to your message, I fully plan to continue to support this wiki, (it is my favorite), but my job and education are taking up increasingly larger amounts of what was my free time. I've been unable to actively contribute on a regular basis but I still check the wiki once or twice every week for any news. I will still be available if anything needs doing, and if there is anything specific feel free to contact me, (I will try to log on more to check my messages). Believe me I do want to help and become a more active member, I just don't always have enough free time. If something big does come up, (possibly Fallout 4), then don't hesitate to contact me, I'll help in anyway I can. Atlas Star (talk) 20:46, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Van Buren Reversions

Hey, just thought I'd let you know the VB reversions I made were done after talking in chat with Chad and being told that we try to preserve the original spelling for VB stuff. Richie9999 (talk) 21:07, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Don't sweat it, man, I dropped you a line to let you know why I did what I did. Wouldn't want you to think me a vandal or some such. Richie9999 (talk) 21:16, March 21, 2013 (UTC)
In regards to the protection, short sighted was the wrong word to use, Chad explained the logic to me, however I see it as something that would create difficulty when updating links, adding links or any other editing that may need to be done. Additionally, I feel that it is further made a bit unnecessary by the fact that they don't get edited much, and Wagnike's edits to them are the first in a while and protecting the pages, in my opinion makes it harder for those users who might be working on Van Buren articles to make any changes to that page, and while as you said one can contact someone with rights to unlock it or edit it themselves I feel that adds an extra step in editing something that isn't often touched upon to begin with. I understand the desire to protect them however, say they had already been protected, then unless I'm horribly mistaken, it wouldn't have stopped Wagnike from editing them as he's staff, it would however, make it harder for those edits to be reverted. This is just my opinion, and while I realize that it differs from yours, I felt that I should let you know my reasoning. Richie9999 (talk) 23:26, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Overview pages

I've done the developer page roughly in the style I had in mind for the other needed pages; heavy use of transcluded, and some of the images need a bit of work to make them all flush, but I think it shows a more "useful" and informative style than the basic lists that exist currently. Platforms Needed Tag

The platforms needed tag isn't mean to replace the Verify tag. It is supposed to be placed on bugs that lack the {{platforms}} tag. That said, bugs that are without a platform on FO3 and NV articles are usually unverified bugs. The platforms needed tag seems a little bit superfluous at the moment, because if a bug has been verified then the platform should be indicated. Now not all bugs that are without a platform are unverified, in that situation the use of the platforms needed tag as a marker is what I'm assuming the template was originally made for. ---bleep196- (talk) 15:37, April 1, 2013 (UTC)

Yes you are correct. It's kind of confusing to be honest, the Platforms Needed template has become kind of redundant. ---bleep196- (talk) 03:43, April 2, 2013 (UTC)
Huh? Of course, why wouldn't I? The platforms needed template isn't going anywhere, it's still useful, so there is no need to get rid of it. While I have pioneered the policies we use for bugs, I have not been alone in my endeavors, and it's not really a competition either. The platforms needed tag was an excellent idea, and still functions well within our current system, it is a template we just have to use in combination with the verify template, it's main purpose has just become a little bit redundant is all. I'm sure we can find some way to tweak it so that it's no longer so redundant. ---bleep196- (talk) 20:47, April 3, 2013 (UTC)

Vertibird

Hey Danny, I was wondering - should vertibird (when written in articles) be capped or not? Energy X Signature0 22:14, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

Securitron

I don't believe it is. We do not capitalize 'protectron', 'robobrain', etc. etc. etc. What makes 'securitrons' any different? ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:46, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

I wouldn't really classify them as not being common enough to be generic robots, seeing as in how they're one of the few robots left in post-War America that are still being manufactured off of assembly lines from multiple locations. But yes, I fully believe that they should remain de-capped, as their name has no special significance other than to declare their model type. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:52, April 4, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan. Got to finish up these follow-up edits on Chad, too. 'dont' and 'favour' are really bothering me. Contemplating de-capping 'Canceled', too, but that might be a bit unnecessary. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:59, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

Oh im sorry about that, i was writing on the chat and(because i was new) i was seeing who were the admnistrators and moderators and then( i know this is embarissing but...) i cliked on edit and then publish, I´m so sorry, not going to happen again.I will try improve some pages in the FO,FO2,FO3 and NV for now(if i find out there is something more to be added. Again, sorry =).

Use of the Verify and Platforms needed tags

I am inclined to agree with your definition, and as we discussed, the platforms needed tag does not always indicate a lack of verification (sorry if in our original discussion I did not make this clear). ---bleep196- (talk) 01:58, April 8, 2013 (UTC)

Re: 2nd Person

I'm not sure why it is stated that way, but 'the player' is most definitely 2nd person. This was discussed at length in this forum. 'The player character' is 3rd person. FollowersApocalypseLogoōrdō āb chao 00:32, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

I assumed that through the forum we had arrived at a conclusion that 2nd person is not allowed. Consequently, 'the player' should be avoided and the third person form 'the player character' should be used. I'm going to message Leon and get his take on it, I feel as though the inclusion of 'the player' in the editing guidelines may simply be an oversight. FollowersApocalypseLogoōrdō āb chao 01:45, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
I apologize for insinuating, I didn't mean it in that way. I was moderately confused because under English language grammatical conventions, 'the player' constitutes second person POV probably 99% of the time it's used, and was certainly in this perspective in Hawk's edit. Regardless, Leon appears to have clarified the matter on FW:EDIT. Apologies if I seemed blunt or hostile, I was in the middle of finals prep and was trying to clarify my position as fast as possible. Cheers. FollowersApocalypseLogoōrdō āb chao 01:41, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Shortcuts

No, it's fine. Something wacky happened to the shortcuts and/or the shortcut template when Wikia changed the namespace from The Vault to Fallout Wiki, I believe. The shortcuts aren't working the way the template usage says they should, but they're working and that's what's important. I tried and couldn't get them to work putting the shortcut redirects in the Fallout Wiki namespace. The only way I could get them to work was putting the redirect in the mainspace like you did, so as far as I'm concerned, if they're working, they're good to go. I'm just adding the shortcut category to them to finish them.  The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:48, April 30, 2013 (UTC)

Actually, now that I'm getting into it, we should have just renamed those pages. I'm having to go through and change all the old links to the old redirect pages so I can delete them. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:44, April 30, 2013 (UTC)
Well, we could just leave them, but that just makes them a bunch of dead end pages that will never be used for anything. I'd just as soon take care of them. I'm gonna ask Bears to run his bot over what links to the pages in Category:Shortcuts and change all of the instances of VA to FW, plus change any of the links to the ones you guys changed. Or you could see if you can do that in AWB. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:14, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
Ok. You're going to have to find a way to navigate that category without it redirecting you. We need to check the links to the old redirect pages and make the changes there, like: Special:WhatLinksHere/Fallout_Wiki:RFA. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:31, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
No, that should be good, just remember to change any shortcuts that you guys changed the abbreviations on, like [[VA:RFA]] got changed to FW:URR. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:35, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
I caught up with you. All the old redirects are deleted up to where you left off. I might do a few more by hand. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 02:09, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

(No problem. I'll follow behind you, check the links and delete the redirects. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:39, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, you'll need sysop rights to edit blogs and some other protected pages. Even with those rights, you won't be able to edit some old blog comments. I ran into that problem once before. I have no idea why I couldn't edit old blog comments, some I could, some I couldn't. Maybe the caches are archived or something. Sysop rights granted. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:46, May 1, 2013 (UTC)
I believe that there's 4 redirects we're gonna have to live with. Those 4 still show links that are somehow tied up with templates that link to the Fallout Wiki space. I believe it's residual from the mass redirecting of The Vault namespace to Fallout Wiki mainspace. Anyways, I've poured over all the templates involved and simply can not see where the link to the old redirect is coming from. So we'll just keep them. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:20, May 3, 2013 (UTC)

Bug project

We don't have (or can create?) a list of "completed" pages (pages with all verified and still having the bug template). I wouldn't know how to do pick them out with a bot. I've removed a few tags the old fashioned way. If you know of something, first talk it over with bleep, then you can go ahead. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:09, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

Fallout Factions Tags

Well I just noticed a couple pages that needed the tag. I had no idea that the project was inactive, but I would be more than willing to pick it up once I finish updating the bug charts and cross checking the articles in the Bug Verification category. ---bleep196- (talk) 19:08, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not familiar with UTF-8, but the category [[Category:Bug Verification project]] has a complete list of every page marked with the Bug Verification project tag. There are probably still some pages that lag the tag at the moment that have bugs, and I will catch them as I come across them. ---bleep196- (talk) 19:19, May 2, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah once I'm done updating the charts I'm going to take the tags off all the pages that have complete bug sections. I would greatly appreciate the help of your bot with that, there are over 1300 articles with bugs so you can imagine how much of a pain it will be to take the tags down off the completed articles. ---bleep196- (talk) 19:23, May 2, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah it shouldn't be super difficult for the bot. I have to go through and check the Bug Verification project Category to make sure all the pages are in the charts, then I will have to go through article by article and check to make sure they are complete, and yada yada yada. It'll take me a couple days to do all that because of Finals. ---bleep196- (talk) 20:28, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

Botwork

Danny, I've got some nice botwork for you to do! Change every <br>, (space)<br>(space), (space)<br> and <br>(space) into <br /> (breaks lines and the space between r and / is also for better readability). First try a few out before you do everything because it will affect quite a few pages. And can you also change |tag Skills into |tag skills. Just changed it on Secret Service because |tag Skills doesn't work. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:14, May 5, 2013 (UTC)

Huh? We don't have a </br>. You can first change <br> into <br /> if you need some kind of order. Note the space between the r and the /. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:34, May 5, 2013 (UTC)
Doesn't matter which category you start as long is it's everything. First make a few test edits though. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:47, May 5, 2013 (UTC)
Good things you made those test edits. That turned out a complete mess! But now it looks good. You can go ahead. Keep an eye on it though. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:17, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
It's going great. Can you also change <br/> into <br />? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:34, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
I realize now you need to go through a lot of categories. Best to concentrate first on the character pages, they have the most br's that need fixing with the inventory items. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:51, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

( Is it possible to remove the spaces before and after <br /> I've seen some on the perk pages, along with the run you're doing now ? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:27, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

Keep in mind that the <br> tag is a singleton tag, meaning that it has no end tag. In XHTML, you must close the tag with a final slash (<br />), but in HTML, it is not required (<br>). ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:38, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

Can you also put your bot to work on all pages linking to {{Infobox person}}. Many developer/voice actor pages have br that needs checking. First try a few ok? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:07, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, I hadn't seen that. You can finish run its doing now. Sure worth while don't you think? Then continue with the infobox person. Plenty of pages there also. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:21, May 10, 2013 (UTC)
Good work. It makes the pages when editing just that bit neater to look at. Can you now do everything that's linked to {{Infobox location}}? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 09:38, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Lost links

I know, I don't get it either. Kevin, Cook and Edwards are on the disambig list and once you try to fix it on the page, they're nowhere to be found, also not in navboxes. I'm going the alternate route now. Just plain going through Category:Disambiguation a to z one by one. That way we'll get there too. Just ignore the ones you can't find I think. Or you can send a post to Wikia if they know why that is. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:24, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Skire! I have a question concerning Tapper, and I think, that you are the right person to ask. Is there any clear indications that "Tapper" is his proper name, and not his occupation? --Теодорико (talk) 10:51, May 14, 2013 (UTC)

Problems with the infobox

I don't of any user rights icon display problems. I've contact Wikia about those infobox errors. They're working on it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:38, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Ok now I see it. I've added it to the list for Wikia. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:58, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Disambig

I'm just keeping it with links to main namepace articles. That's good enough for me. I don't really see a point in adjusting links on talkpages. These also won't show up in Special:Disambiguations. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:02, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Victor's quest

Actually, I removed the main link from the fnv navbox today. But if you want, you can merge those 4. I'm ok with that. We've done it before with others like Brotherhood Bond and Highway to the Danger Zone. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:20, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Grenade Rifle

I can agree with that logic. Keeping it simple and just having that information available on the vanilla article-page would probably be for the best and to keep clutter down. Have a sit-down with Richie about this, too. I believe he was the one who originally added that information. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 02:55, May 18, 2013 (UTC)

Re: 'Nade Rifle

I saw it. Main reason I added it was due to an anonymous user adding it in the past and having it reverted, as he was technically correct about it being the M79 and we had dev confirmation of it (granted he said it was Russian, dunno where he got that). Anyhow. Part of me figures that in doing this we don't need to worry about reverting and removing it. Additionally, I see it as making sure the pages have the proper info available. Lastly, there was some degree of a precedent regarding unique weapons having dev confirmation in addition to the standard variants such as with This Machine and That Gun. Way I see it we're making sure all the info is out there. I figure it's best to do it that way so users who look up the unique weapon and are able to see the behind the scenes bit as opposed to having to go to another page. I see no real reason to not have it there. Sorry for the rambling. Richie9999 (talk) 03:06, May 18, 2013 (UTC)

Awesome, that's good to hear. I like the Charles Dickens catch. Amusingly, my friend is at university about 10 minutes from Bleak House. I'm going to see him this weekend, maybe I'll take a picture for the page; think we could get away with that? -- GOTW User | Talk 20:28, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

I had missed you yes. Now I see why. When you get your PC back, can you continue with the <br /> case? Noticed it on perk pages too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:48, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

I have another bot job for you. I discovered that when you make a null edit (edit, do nothing and save) the red expression error disappears. It doesn't solve the large map marker images, but it does solve these errors. Example is Elizabeth Kieran. It doesn't really work on pages which have a small image, because when you make an edit there, the infobox image is enlarged to 240px. Like on FO1, FO2 and FOT pages. So the task is make a null edit on FO3 and FNV items, character, weapon, armor pages (categories). Location pages isn't really needed (yet) because they have the map markers and local maps. Can the bot do that, make null edits? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:27, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

PH vote exclusion

As I was unaware of the 'one edit to vote' policy, I didn't anticipate the odds being made even more dire for 2 and 3. I'm confident that 2 can still pull through maybe. I was wondering if votes such as the one below could/would be excluded as well for breaching the voting rational guideline(s) sir Leon laid out as it seems only fair a yes and a no be excluded for the sake of consistent voting balance:

Icon cross Disagree with buying into the in-game propaganda for the sake of appeasing the Enclave fan-boys. I see the guy-voting-yes's point, but surely the page is the best way of recognising lore? Besides, it's a tad eerie to listen to the fascist group in Fallout's ideology and start classifying people as impure... -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲

Inquiry aside, it's good to see that you're interested and approve of seeing this misunderstood lore being added like all other valid lore on the Wiki rather than stand to see it continually blacklisted for the sake of a select few's egos/morals Sigma. Enclavesymbol 00:04, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

Erm, yes, just. Thanks to the fact that it is well know that he wrote David Copperfield there and wrote Bleak House due to this experience there (the bit that actually counts is this), I think we can get away with it. I have two pictures, one from afar and one of the front door (you can't get a decent shot of the whole thing it pains me to say). You literally just caught me, it's 3:20 here!
On another note, I really opened a can of worms with this film; it'll keep me busy for ages. The War wasn't even going to be the same in this one, so I was defintily right to create extra pages for them. Did these two pages whilst I watched blade runner tonight. Not bad for something that has a few line in the treatment I don't think, do you? :)
Actually, whilst I think of it, I'm almost certain they are worthwhile, but what do you think of my extrapolative assumptions; fair or not? I'll wait up for your reply.

Featured messes

I'll take a look at what you've got, maybe later tonight. I really don't like how those features articles work anyways. Some of the template implementation doesn't seem to be working right. I might mess with having the template auto-count the number of articles available like we did with the {{rotating content}} template. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 15:35, May 27, 2013 (UTC)

I couldn't find the sandbox that you were talking about. In principal, I have no problem with going over the featured articles lists and revising/updating them, as well as developing some kind of criteria for inclusion. Kinda like the Wikipedia featured articles. They have to be class A articles or somesuch. Let's not make too much of a bureaucracy about it though. Maybe keep the criteria simple. Show me what you have in draft, when you have something. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 22:07, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

Bot run altered

Skip the bot run where I asked you to make null edits on FO3 and FNV pages. I went through them myself. Turns out about 90% were already ok, maybe some left but not worth a bot run anymore. Only thing left is the <br /> bot run. How's your computer. All better? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:25, May 28, 2013 (UTC)

Re: AMR

Yeah, I kinda thought that (your last point) when I first saw the page - although I still think an example could be suitable; maybe we could get rid of that line altogether, or say something like 'The Jury Rigging perk works well with this weapon, as it can be repaired with relatively cheap weapons (((such as...)))'? Thanks for 'stepping in' though, I didn't realise such a minor edit could spark that sort of reaction! (And yes, I'm new here) Peter13542 (talk) 10:30, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

That's quite good. I think you've covered all the bases there. I wonder how many articles that we feature now actually meet those guidelines? I reckon that would be the first step: determine which ones do, which ones don't. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:52, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

Guess Who I Saw

Maybe the dead nightkin only spawns when Guess What I Saw is started, but Oh Baby! is always there, no matter if the quest is started or not. You can take a look at the Category:Fallout: New Vegas and determine it for yourself. For example the quests and everything in the item category (or links to the infobox item template) still need to be done. AWB

I'm not entirely sure. You might try running two AWB windows at once. One doing the find + replace and the other doing basic formatting fixes (the default setting on which to run the bot). Personally, I have never had a problem with AWB doing that. Is it doing it to you? ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 20:02, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

I only have a modicum of familiarity with AWB to be perfectly honest, and if it were the python bot you could typically find a command to fix it, so I'm not too sure. Let me look around on it and see what I find. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 21:13, June 2, 2013 (UTC)
