Bandits are criminals found in Wilhelm's Wharf in 2277.
Led by Split Jack, they are plaguing the water caravans going from Rivet City to the Capital Wasteland. Leadership of the group goes to whoever "hits hardest" according to Jack - which is him currently.
Interactions with the player character

- Protecting the Water Way: Three of them will be attacking the bait caravan. While those are hostile, the others are initially friendly. Should the Lone Wanderer replace Split Jack by beating him in a duel, the bandits ask you to extort the "protection money" from Officer Lepelletier in his stead. When fighting Split Jack, the bandits will become hostile if you use anything but the designated weapon.
