Benjamin Franklin (January 17, 1706 – April 17, 1790) was a founding father of the United States of America.
Background[edit | edit source]
Franklin was a polymat, being an author, printer, scientist, inventor, political theorist, statesman and diplomat. He served as Pennsylvania's delegate in the Second Continental Congress and organized the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence and would later sign it. While in Congress, he was also named the first Postmaster General. During the American Revolution, he served as ambassador between the United States of America and the Kingdom of France. Following the war, he served as the governor of Pennsylvania. He is mentioned on the National Archives' pop quiz terminals.
