Are you fucking kidding me? First I get my legs smashed, and then in walks the Powder Gangers' grim fucking reaper? What the fuck have you got against us, man/bitch? Jesus fucking Christ, if you want me dead just gimme 15 Med-X and I'll fucking O.D. for ya, okay? Fuck!

Boxcars is an former Powder Ganger stuck in Nipton General Store in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[edit | edit source]

Boxcars found himself in Nipton when he and his crew of Powder Gangers arranged to kidnap some New California Republic soldiers who were passing through, take their weapons for themselves and them ransom them off, all with the help of crooked Mayor Joseph B. Steyn.[1] However, this plan fell apart when the Legion rolled into town and Vulpes Inculta forced the town's inhabitants into a lottery. One could say they Boxcars got off easy: instead of being beheaded, crucified or burned alive, he simply got his legs crippled by hammers; still, Boxcars does not hold the same sentiment.[2] Now he simply stays in the Nipton General Store (not that he can do anything about it), being easily irritated and waiting to find peace inside a syringe of Med-X.[3]

Effects of the players action[edit | edit source]

  • Depending on the player's reputation with the Powder Gangers, Boxcars greeting will change accordingly.
    • If the player has a bad reputation with the Powder Gangers, Boxcars will give the Courier a not so warm welcome when first talking to him, referring to him as "the Powder Ganger's grim fucking reaper".
    • If the player has a good reputation with the Powder Ganger's and completed Run Goodsprings Run, Boxcars will recognize the player and call him a friend.

Other interactions[edit | edit source]

  • The player can provide Boxcars with up to five Med-X doses for his legs which, depending on how many doses are given, will boost the player's karma. This can only be done once.

Notable quotes[edit | edit source]

  • "Are you fucking kidding me? First I get my legs smashed, and then in walks the Powder Gangers' grim fucking reaper? What the fuck have you got against us, man/bitch? Jesus fucking Christ, if you want me dead just gimme 15 Med-X and I'll fucking O.D. for ya, okay? Fuck!"
  • "Goddammit, I was nodding off until you barged in here! And I don't hurt when I sleep! Wait - you're that courier. Hey. know what Boxcars needs, friend? Some fucking pain relief!"
  • "Goddammit, I was nodding off until you barged in here! And I don't hurt when I sleep! Just give me some goddamn Med-X and fuck off, will ya?"
  • "I dunno, I just love it here. What the fuck do you think, asshole? Prize for second place was I got to live, but they beat my fucking legs with hammers. I'm fucking crippled, get it?" (when asked why he is still in the general store)
  • "We get in position and next thing we know, we're surrounded by those fucking Legion freaks. They dragged us and everybody else into the center of town. And that asshole with a dog on his head, he starts talking about how we're bad people! He said we needed to be punished for what we did, not all of us, but some of us. And then he gives everyone a fucking lottery ticket..."

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • PCIcon pc.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png Due to a scripting error, Boxcars' legs are not crippled, allowing him full normal movement if engaged in combat.
  • PCIcon pc.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png Boxcars is set to respawn within the game. Respawning occurs every three days, and will reset his inventory (possibly changing his worn clothing) and resurrect him if he was previously killed.
  • PCIcon pc.png PlayStation 3Icon ps3.png Xbox 360Icon xbox360.png Sometimes after giving or not giving him Med-X doses he will no longer have a dialogue option other than "Good bye", thereby breaking the Wheel of Fortune quest.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

  1. The Courier: "Tell me about the lottery."
Boxcars: "It ain't like we came to Nipton to play it! Me and my crew had it worked out to kidnap some NCR troopers who come to town to get laid. Had it all worked out with the scumbag mayor. We were gonna ransom them off, keep their weapons for ourselves, a nice score."

  2. The Courier: "How'd your plan go wrong?"

The Courier: "What happened after everyone got lottery tickets?"
Boxcars: "What do you think? He started drawing tickets, and that's how people got punished. First up was the "lucky losers." They got decapitated - guess that's "lucky" because it's pretty quick. Then came the crucifixions. Goddamn but those went on and on and on... Third-place runners-up got enslaved. I got the fuck beat out of my legs, and the winner they let go free."

  3. The Courier: "I can spare some Med-X."
Boxcars: "Then you're a fucking dream come true, ain't ya? How much you gonna give me?"
