Value

Why is it exactly that we have dollar signs as a link for bottle caps in our infobox templates? The symbol suggests American currency, which isn't present in the Fallout games. (Except as a symbol for NCR Dollars). I would suggest a change to the template where Value perhaps links to bottle caps, as opposed to the Dollar Sign. I just find it a bit misleading when I glance at it.--TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 08:21, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Hm. I feel like Jspoel could help us out, in the mean time I'll search for something that we can agree on. Then we can go from there and I can commission Bearbot to apply the changes.--TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 05:05, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Template Protection Part 2

Hey Gunny. Awhile ago I left you a message about possibly lowering the protection of the Community Messages Template and my reasons behind it. You'd said you'd think on it, but never got back to me. So I was wondering if you had a chance to think it over yet and give me a decision. It's all good if you hadn't yet, I just thought no harm in asking right? Anyways have a great day Gunny. Yours Always; --The Old World Relics (talk/blog/contributions) 14:07, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

I think we can lower the protection level one degree, to "block new and unregistered users". That way people like OWR can update it. The community messages aren't optimal updated; a few extra pair of eyes can help. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:15, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Collapsible Content

Just a matter of aesthetic appeal. For me, I prefer just having the word expand present, as well as the lack of unnecessary parameters when I simply want to have some content to temporarily hide. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 19:40, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

I like to keep my options open and varied - the same reason why I introduced the alternative nav-boxes awhile back. In this case, I like the more simplified variation, as I want to keep any content I have hidden as simple as possible and not in the way of everything else around it. Nothing wrong with multiple choices to choose from. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:02, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
I'm comparing the two, and I'm preferring my option more. Is there a way to manually make yours a bit smaller? ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:16, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Collaspible content

{{Expandable content|Expandable content}}

Hmm. Yours was showing up as larger in my sandbox. Not sure what the difference is now, but if they're both the same size, then I'll go ahead and remove mine. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required!
Oh, no, that wasn't the problem, as I could change what it said manually without touching the template itself anyways. I was mostly looking at the sizing between the two, as I prefer less intrusive text when temporarily hiding content. It was showing up with yours being larger in my sandbox, so I was looking at other options. But on your talk-page, they were both sharing the same size. So I'll just look more into yours. Community Messages

I'll be moving the Moose back on-top. It specifically says this when editing the community messages: " All Official Wiki news goes in this section, in order of the most recent post at the top. Please try to keep notices to a maximum of 5 lines." And as was determined, the Moose does fit into both the news and community news categories. S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

Yeah I just determined that a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. can go over 10 for an NPC, but I didn't know that it also worked for the player. I'm assuming there's something about that in the bugs page. 69.125.134.190 20:25, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Inactivity

Bongiorno, Gunny. As you may have noticed, my activity has dipped somewhat over the past few weeks. It's unfortunate, but due to a myriad of reasons I can no longer remain active here. I intend to return, but I will not be able to do so until life slows down a bit. As such, I would like you to move me to the inactive patrollers list. I will still be popping in from time to time, and will maintain activity in areas concerning policy changes and votes/proposals. Thanks for everything and best of luck for the time being. Value parameters

You probably won't like it having spent much time on adding the bottlecap links into the infobox, but I'm suggesting a change again (after reading TB's request to you). I don't like the $ sign that much in the infobox after all. Also a bottlecap image doesn't work that good (for me anyway). What bugs me is that it doesn't sync well with the rest of the infobox which are all just plain numbers. What do you think of removing the $ sign and instead make the value parameter link to the Currency overview page? Just like the Base id or DR link. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:13, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Gunny, I agree with Jspoel, if you agree I can go ahead and start the changes. Er, I never did much template editing, so can you link the template for me so I can change it? --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 04:37, June 28, 2013 (UTC)
I actually meant changing the word "value" in the infobox, not the value itself. That's consistent with links like DR and Base ID. Can you adjust it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:02, June 28, 2013 (UTC)

I think you nailed it 1 for 1

Time has passed & folks have begun to get a grip on what it means to have one account and the responsibilities that come with making a vote.

~ You said "Quote" I'm still not seeing much consensus on this. If we break the vote down 4 ways, folks who want option1 with BC control, folks who want option1 with admin control, folks who want option2 and folks who want option3, I'm not sure which one has the most support. I'm seriously considering having this policy vote rewritten and revoted for better clarity so all the options are allowed for and much clearer. Is there any serious resistance to that? "End Quote"

Maybe now that it has been thoroughly discussed folks might better understand the vote as its simplest terms

  • "One member = one vote. Having more than one clearly recognisable accounts is OK but they should never be used to stack votes with comments as if they are from more than 1 user.

Over all it looks like you are well on top of this so I just wanted to voice exactly why I support your proposition.

"Quote"* Only one vote per person, not account."End Quote"

New SPECIAL Template

I used the new S.P.E.C.I.A.L. template for Abraham Washington. It works fine, and it's looking great, but I just have a few questions about it: 1. Do we still need it to say "base SPECIAL" if it's combined into one S.P.E.C.I.A.L.? 2. Do you just want to add in the modified stats/tag skills in parenthesis just until you are able to make something new for them like I did on the Abraham Washington page? 69.125.134.190 18:23, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Okay well I'm just going to go back and add in some more data to the stats table before I start adding in all that info to characters. I'd like to get a little further with the table before we start a project (If we actually start one). 69.125.134.190 23:55, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Few things

Hey Gunny. I noticed that the multiple accounts policy enforcement is going ahead, and I was curious if we could, at bureaucratic discretion, lower the permissions level for multiple accounts down to administrator? I think several users, including myself, would appreciate this change. And another thing: I feel that now is an appropriate time to ratify policy on reconfirmation process, as there is nothing "official" on the matter in our policies. I remember you had something awhile go regarding this and was wondering if we could bring this topic up again and get some closure on it. Please let me know. --Skire (talk) 20:35, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough, I can understand. And regarding the reconfirmations, I recall this forum discussion we had some time ago, and several users (yourself, Agent c, and Clyde) brought up ideas to formalise the process. However, nothing was ever voted on. Personally, anything that would set up prerequisites and other rules for reconfirmation and other disciplinary action against users with extra rights is satisfiable for me, but I just want to get something in the book. Perhaps we can set up another forum discussion, linking to the earlier one, and bring up a few propositions to discuss on before going to a vote. --Skire (talk) 13:54, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Adminship vs Tenure

Is there any requirement for a revision of one's adminship after a set period(s) of time? I think we have a couple admins who've maybe held on too long. I've compared the ratio of total days here to total edits, and I've been surprised at the results.

When simplified, this ratio presents the average number of daily edits made by a user. There's an admin with an average daily edit count of five. That means he/she could capitalize words on five different articles and be done for the day. I randomly chose seven admins, and their average edit count combined is thirteen daily edits.

I will point out that this does not calculate the size/magnitude of each edit; however, I've found that many edits from the admins I looked at go to forums which doesn't even require adminship anyway.

Again, I just want to know if there are any rules requiring admins to be reviewed? 69.l25 (talk) 01:47, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. The only problem that I keep hearing is people speaking for all admins.

I've gone through some recent history, and I've found that a few admins simply make a few edits on talk pages and a few edits on forums and are done for the day. And this has been going on for months.

I really just can't see why these very few people have administrative abilities anymore. Anyone can comment on a forum. Anyone can comment on a talk page, and everyone's opinion is welcome in both. I'm just worried it's about a sense of community rather than a real need for administrative abilities. 69.l25 (talk) 20:59, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

Reconfirmation forum

Hi Gunny. I have posted a few more comments, in addition to withdrawing my objections against Article II clause 1. As for solutions to those clauses with significant opposition, I can support a minimum of either 3 or 5 petitioners (preferably 5) for Article III clause 1; for article III clause 3 I would support time extension (minimum 3 days is ok) granted at bureaucratic discretion. I'm hoping we can move this on as the forum discussion begins to die out a bit. --Skire (talk) 01:20, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

Future of the Stats Project

There really isn't one. There just isn't enough support to be able to add in information for several hundreds of characters. The current infobox includes a base S.P.E.C.I.A.L. which should be enough to indicate that stats are changeable in-game, and it's unrealistic to attempt to add in the "changed information". Plus it's really not needed so long as there is an understanding that these statistics can be modified and that the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. listed isn't always the one that appears in-game. 69.l25 (talk) 20:29, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

Blog/Forum Comments

Hello, Gunny. I hate to do this, but I would like to request for you to step in as a neutral judge over a few recent incidents involving the professionalism between myself and Jasper. I personally feel as if actions should be taken, for the reasons that I will be outlining below, but I understand that at this point, I've become much too involved, and it would be wholly unfair of me to take any form of action.

  • July 2nd - On the multiple accounts policy forum, I had expressed my concerns over privacy issues, and how those of us with secondary accounts shouldn't be called out for the idiocy of a few. Jasper joined in on the debate, which eventually escalated to baseless insinuations from his end, and an outright lie about said insinuations when the matter was moved onto his TP to keep from distracting the forum's original topic.
  • ""And we'd rather keep those accounts secret, as they might interfere in inter-wiki relations." What does that even mean? To you regularly troll the killzone wiki and don;t want other wikis to know?"
  • "Have fun with your "totally not troll accounts", because I fail to see why else you'd "hurt wiki relations"."
  • "I see no reason why telling people that you have other accounts could do any damage, either interwiki or outeriwki, unless you intend to do something bad with that account"
  • " End of the day, if you have a second account and don't tell people who it is, I think you must have something to hide."

When called out for making those plainly seen accusations, all he had to say was this, which I personally consider a lie: "Did I say "you can't possibly be using them for anything good"? No. I said unless you're not using them for anything bad I fail to see how telling people about them would hurt you or wiki relations."

On top of this, he later went into chat and continued making his lies and accusations in an attempt to defame me.

  • [09:39] <JASPER42> Leon called us Nazis for wanting to have seconds accounts revealed.
  • [09:41] <JASPER42> Cant wait for him to troll me with his "totally not malicious accounts"
  • [09:41] <JASPER42> He's so fucking self centered
  • [09:42] <JASPER42> Do you think I can tell him what I really think of him without getting a ban?
  • [09:47] <JASPER42> BRB making 200 accounts to "Not do anything bad with" but I cant tell you thier names or It;ll hurt wiki relations
  • [09:51] <JASPER42> Unless Leon has a good reason to want to hide his accounts, I don't see how it can hurt "wiki relations"
  • [09:52] <JASPER42> It was an insult. He was calling us fascists, he can't take the high ground and act all hurt when I sink as low as him
  • [09:53] <JASPER42> If he called us "Stormstroopers" I highlu doubt he would be talking about starwars
  • [09:54] <JASPER42> because I really want to tell him to shove it up his arse
  • [09:56] <JASPER42> Leon got all hurt because the only reason to hide something is if you have something to hide

And now, as of today, he went onto Eden's blog and made a comment specifically flame-baiting the topic: "What the hell is it with you people? The Enclave is not real. Stop preaching their ways or screaming hate for them already. Y'all are getting too wound up over a fictional faction. yeesh." and then continues to lie on my talk-page about his intent with comments like this: "I wasn't looking for a negative response. Thus it wasnt flame baiting. Thus this whole convo is pointless."

Anyways, I'm sorry for dragging you into this, but I'm frankly sick of having to correct people in chat when I find out that lies have been made about me, and then having to address personal attacks and flame-baiting, just to be met with coyness. Final Judgment

Nah, I like what you said. There's only one point I'd like to correct: I don't hold grudges. Whether it's fighting with Ghost, Clyde, you, Eden, etc., I always treat the people that I disagree with like any other person after the incident. So you don't have to worry about me judging or acting like a tool while around Jas. Aside from that, I agree, and I'm up for dropping this. I'm a bit miffed that lying was involved with this incident, but you are more than likely correct in that I'm a bit sensitive to people not actually talking to me about their grievances. Thanks for looking into this. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 02:15, July 11, 2013 (UTC)

Template Building

Hi Gunny,

Wonder if I can get your help in making some templates. I'm looking to refresh the look and feel of the news, using the heading and boxes Wikia created for the Apprentice as a guide. (I'm using this sandbox as my testbed)

What I'm looking to do is imbed the start content into a greater template with some switches, with an option to also include an image set at 200px. So idealy instead of

Start Template including heading name
Image set at 200px, with a switch to change between left and right alignment.
Content
End Template

I'm thinking instead it could be

Start template including heading name, Image, and choice of left/right alignment
Content
End template

I'm thinking also if there's a way we can future proof it a bit to allow for a different heading line graphic (that the text in the headings go ontop) and background colour, to allow me to mix up colours, that would be awesome, but I'm not sure how the wikia template works on that, so it might not be possible and/or need another solution. I'm thinking things like the Relic, and Josh's formspring comments could have their own unique colours/style/Logo, etc.

I'm still very much in the early stages in how to do the refresh, so if you have any thoughts on how I might be able to achieve this, or any other look improvement suggestions, that would be awesome. Agent c (talk) 22:27, July 12, 2013 (UTC)

Just wanted to give you a quick rundown of the stats and a: if they are used and b: if we need them:
  • Action Points: Unused; No
  • Base Health: Used; Possibly
  • Carry Weight: Likely used by all NPCs; Probably
  • Critical Chance: Yes
  • DR: Yes
  • Fatigue: Unused; No
  • Melee Damage: Unused; No
  • Unarmed Damage: Yes
  • Poison Resistance: Yes
  • Rad. Resistance: Yes
  • Reloading Speed: Unknown; Possibly
  • Speed Mult. %: Used; Possibly
  • Skill Rate: Possibly used by NPCs; Probably not
I've known that info like Fatigue and Melee Damage are said to be unused on the G.E.C.K.'s website, but I have yet to completely confirm this in-game which is why I've been including them so far. 69.l25 (talk) 23:23, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

Character infobox

Can we have another look at the infobox template changes? The derived stats section in your sandbox example is growing way out of control in my opinion, much too long. The icons look pretty, but now one stat takes 2 lines of space. There's also something like giving too much information, and it also leaves less room for content on the left side. Maybe if we make the derived stats collapsed it could work. But how I look at it now I think first let us see if we can get all basic stats in the infobox already (without clothing stat modifications), then the rest will come later. And I noticed something unexpected on 69's page; he added a sort of inactive tag on his userpage. And he is the driving force behind this, so I'm not sure about the progress of the project. Also been thinking about all these tags we have on pages. While they're at the top of pages they seem to interfere with good display on mobile phones (first thing people see) and I've been told 25% of our visitors use that nowadays to browse the wiki, so something worth looking at. How would that mbox notice look on our pages then? Point is, the less space it takes up on the article page, the better it is. And can you give me 1 or 2 examples on Wikipedia? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:57, July 16, 2013 (UTC)
That could work. One mbox notice with just 1 line, refering to 1 or more projects on the article's talkpage. We really need to do something about those current tags. Two tags alone are already covering the total screen/first look on a mobile, as you can see from Agent c's images, and that's clearly not what we want. I think my idea isn't that bad either, but your idea looks ok too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:35, July 17, 2013 (UTC)

IP check/Ban

Gunknee, you know this is the utmost of importance if I contact you on your talk page, ya old man. Anyways, I would like to request an IP check on this user User:Elizabeth_Sitka. Upon entering the chat, everything seemed normal until Chris linked an article containing this user's avi. Before the link, the user said she/he(it) was from Australia then moved to Alaska. Where as the bio mentioned nothing of Aussieland. Upon question, the user in question tried to stick to the bio in the link, upon failure, (s)he(it) left the chat room which furthered suspicion. I afterwords banned the user under precaution, if the IP check yields, nothing I will unban this user. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2012 - BSHU Graduate 05:22, July 18, 2013 (UTC)

Derived Stats

Great! The only thing we need to do now with the derived stats is determine what is needed and not needed for all character pages. This is what I say for Fallout 3 and NV:

Include
Carry Weight
Critical Chance
DT/DR
Hit Points
Poison Resistance
Radiation Resistance
Unarmed Damage
Don't Include
AP
Armor Class
Fatigue
Melee Damage

If I didn't mention something it's because I'm trying to still trying to determine if it's needed. So, does this sound good?

Yeah, I understand. I just wanted to make it clear as to what should be added so that we don't end up with a jumbled mess like we have now with some pages. I can add in a better version of the table on the project page to display what info should be added. 69.l25 (talk) 23:25, July 21, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I've cut out some of the stats, so I don't imagine the section being unmanageably big with the revised data. Does this look good for FO3 and FNV? 69.l25 (talk) 00:07, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

I honestly don't really get the DR/DT thing between the games, but I'll move DR to "use". 69.l25 (talk) 00:18, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Template

Hey Gunny. Despite my relative lack of technical prowess, I have managed to create a template for appearances (in my sandbox here). It has two parameters - one for the game abbreviation, and one for whether or not the editor wants a link around the game (depending on the circumstances). My question is: is it better to have to substitute the template (as it is now) or leave an un-substituted {{PAGENAME}}? {{Abb}} will have to be un-substituted. Perhaps you could take a look at it and if there are any alternate solutions, let me know?

P.S. Please be proud of me ;)

--Skire (talk) 17:36, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Right, the second (link or no link) parameter if just for convenience, and so can be changed around based on whether or not there is another link to the game nearby. My intention is to use this primarily for FO4, since most appearances sections are written out exactly as such with only one game. Obviously, this shouldn't be used for all pages but only ones that fit. However, it can work for any game supported by {{Abb}} (which is all of them). Currently the template must be substituted or it will not work. Is there a way to get the PAGENAME to be substituted without having to substitute the entire template? --Skire (talk) 17:49, July 23, 2013 (UTC)
I see. That's a good idea, makes things a little more straightforward. Let me know if you find a solution, because I had accidentally substituted the entire Abb template when I was making the template, which turned out a mess. --Skire (talk) 01:32, July 25, 2013 (UTC)

I`m a pistol man myself

I shot 9 inch 0.22 rim fire Drulov and scope from a sand bag on the army range at 100 yards. AThe first shot was marked with a 3 inch day glo disk held in place with a brass screw set into my fist shot hole. The next two shots the marker was not moved and the fourth shot the day glo marker fluttered out of sight into the bunker. That was the end of my shoot. When I got clearance to go to the targets the dayglo disk was laid on a table with the brass screw pressed sideways into the card. The bullet had hit the head of the screw slightly off centre driving it sideways skewed through the target board. I still have the disk 28 years later as a reminder of what strange things can happen. FNV Weapons page edits

I think that user was taking the information from the individual weapon pages. One thing I had asked about earlier on the talk page there no one responded to. I asked about the DPS on the shotgun weapons not matching what was on the individual weapon pages. For instance, the DPS listed for the Sawed-off shotgun is listed at 28.2 on the FNV weapon page but listed at 234.4 on the Sawed-off shotgun (Fallout: New Vegas) page. What confuses me on that one itself is that the DPS is lower than the DAM the weapon produces with one shot. Great Mara (talk) 06:14, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Although the 28.2 matches the DPS (Reload) value but not the DPS. But I don't know the difference between DPS and DPS reload. Some of the other shotguns seem to be using the DPS in that column and not the DPS reload Great Mara (talk) 06:18, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

To Gunny about my recent edit changes, there are some issues with the consistency between weapon damage, DPS, and fire rate. I had checked both the individual pages of each weapon and took into common knowledge that a grenade rifle that does 100 damage with a DPS of about 41 does not equate to a fire rate of 2.1. For example, "Lucky", the unique .32 revolver. The stat had claimed that the gun had a fire rate of 1.75 (meaning, it could fire about 1.75 shots every second), although taking the DPS and dividing by the DAM had gotten a different claim. Also, on the individual page, it shows that the fire rate of "Lucky" is actually 2.75, not 1.75. And the above individual is also right about the fire rate of the Sawed-Off Shotgun and that the DPS doesn't calculate in correctly. the Fire Rate is about 2.34 or whatever, and that it's DPS would be 234, if we assume that all base damage hits something, and it's base damage is 100 like Great mara has claimed.

I noticed you were an admin, so I guess I am sorry for not bringing this information to you before deciding to make my changes, but nevertheless changes do need to be made to clarify that the stats are accurate. 141.0.9.76 16:32, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

So the weapons page should be using the 'DPS (Reload)' value and not the 'DPS' value? Because a good chunk of the weapons are using the 'DPS' value instead of 'DPS (Reload)' in the tables. Great Mara (talk) 18:20, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Double check on Lincoln Repeater Item HP

I'm wondering about the Item HP value of the Lincoln's repeater because the infobox on it lists an item HP of 600 (durability of 400 shots) and other tables are listing its HP value at 500 (for a total of around 333 shots) Great Mara (talk) 07:05, August 25, 2013 (UTC)

Issues With Stats

I've noticed a couple of things with the new stats that I was wondering if you could take a look at:

  • "Lockpick mod" doesn't seem to be working. You can check it on the Three Dog page. I put it the lockpick mod part but it isn't showing up in the infobox
  • In the derived stats section, adding in "enmod=+x" is giving an incorrect number of modified hit points. You can check Ken Ewers for an example. (It added 20hp instead of 5hp)
  • Radiation and Poison Resistance doesn't seem to be showing up at all for some characters
  • Could you add in a critical chance mod? We're going to need it for some characters.
  • Adding mods to tag skills isn't always rendering whole numbers like it should. (Here's an example)

Hopefully we can get all this cleared up soon. 69.125.134.190 18:52, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, Hit Points and Endurance function differently for NPCs. +1 Endurance translates to +5 Hit Points (FO3 and FNV). For Critical Chance, I was talking about adding in a way to show it modified by armor. Salt-Upon-Wounds, for example, has armor that modified Critical Chance, but there's no way to show that. Other than that, I think we're good for now. Thanks for the help! 69.125.134.190 19:57, August 28, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds good. 69.125.134.190 20:14, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

Is there anything you can do to prevent tag skills from going over 100? 69.125.134.190 23:19, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

Okay thanks. 69.125.134.190 23:43, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

I ran into a small problem regarding unarmed damage. Essentially, +1 to the Unarmed skill translates to +0.05 to Unarmed Damage, but the infoboxes haven't been set up to take this into account. Do you think you could look into that? 69.125.134.190 17:02, August 29, 2013 (UTC)

I also ran into a problem with luck and derived stats. Adding "lkmod=1" renders some kind of error for the modified critical chance. 69.125.134.190 18:20, August 31, 2013 (UTC)

Intro and info...(boxes)

Just thought I'd come and say hello... Hello! As you may or may not know I've been doing some work on the infobox stats, I'd been dabbling before but I really got started yesterday, anyway that was me going back and forth from 69|125, you've both been very helpful (even if you didn't know it at the time!). I'll try and get a power session in today see how many of the FO3's I can do. And of course, as any fixes/changes come into effect or any issues arise, things can be a more direct. --Tribal Wisdom (talk) 11:08, August 29, 2013 (UTC)

Hi again, thanks for the response. Characters that have tag skills (and derived stats) that level up more than once (for example, Kodiak whose small guns tag goes; 40 → 53 → 70) don't appear to be affected by SPECIAL or tag mods (in this case agmod or small guns mod), an error occurs, I've tried different arrangements but no such luck, or is there another way? --Tribal Wisdom (talk) 13:08, August 31, 2013 (UTC)
Howdy, anything new on the above issue? Also I seem to be having trouble with the cwmod/stmod to modify carry weight, I don't think I'm putting it in wrong, but I thought I'd let you know. --Tribal Wisdom (talk) 19:51, September 6, 2013 (UTC)
This is how it appears without the "lbs" and stmod=2, - [1] (with "lbs" the error doesn't recognize "lbs" instead). And this is the case with the cwmod as well, with or without "lbs".
Okay, thanks for the latest, I've done a lot today, at least what I can do, so I'll see if I can get most of the fixed stuff in tomorrow. Also, it was brought to my attention that in my optimistic editing, I've been systematically going through the characters without apparel modifiers using the new set-up, I've been using it to put the stats in a uniform state, I mean I know I've been doing it but I never asked for opinions, I've put a new section on the forum page for the project if it becomes something to discuss, but what do you think? The pounds thing I think comes from the first few games when items were measured in lbs, in FO3 it becomes 'unknown', but assumed. --Tribal Wisdom (talk) 22:31, September 8, 2013 (UTC)
Also, is there a rad resist mod? I haven't noticed one. --Tribal Wisdom (talk) 22:47, September 9, 2013 (UTC)

Infobox stat blues

Today Tribal Wisdom has worked on the using the tag skill- and derived stats skill template on pages. As you can see here it doesn't work well yet. The template aligns the numbers but somehow it uses too much space for the derived stat itself. Two-worded stats are split over two lines which makes it look terrible as you can see in the example of Jericho. Can you look at that? I also decreased the line height on the 2 templates; it's too large. May be we can even get rid of the alternate line height all together and just use the standard one if you ask me. The infoboxes already stretch large as it is. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:35, August 29, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not in favor of using icons there. You can't immediately see what the name of the derived stat or tag skill is. Maybe abbreviate resistance to resist. and damage to dam. That should help too. I've already done it with radiation resistance in the derived stat template. Those line breaks really bug me. Look at an old version of Jericho. Doesn't look good. I've also noticed a larger indent (is that good American?) from the left side to the infobox to the first letter of the stat with the DV and TS templates compared to the normal statistics. It's just a mm more space but the words in box are not all left aligned anymore. Nitpicking maybe but still. Lineheight may be a bit tight now. 12px could be right too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:50, August 31, 2013 (UTC)

Tables request

Hey Gunny. I was wondering if you could give me a hand with tables... I have made a new project here and require some progress tables, the first column of which being the pages of Category:Military conflicts (listed alphabetically, preferably), the second column being "title," the third "infobox," the fourth "article body," the fifth "peer review," and finally "complete" for the sixth. Don't worry if this is too inconvenient for you right now, since I do understand that there are other matters you must tend to. On a related note, knowing your general disliking of project stagnation, I can guarantee completion for this project within two months. So whaddaya say? --Skire (talk) 19:01, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

I managed to get that table done, so there's not need to go through any trouble making it. I noticed one thing for the stats project though. It's starting to get a little bulky, specifically on Allen Mack's page. Is there anything you can do to make it look smoother if you feel it needs to? 69.125.134.190 20:24, August 30, 2013 (UTC)

More on Infoboxes

I don't know about the collapsed sections, as they really just hide the problem instead of fixing it. I'd imagine that using icons would give us some more space, and it could work, but I'm not sure everyone would know what we're talking about if it's just a bunch of pictures and numbers. I guess having the image read "Critical Chance", for example , when you scroll over it might solve this problem though.

As I've been going through the character pages, I've been noticing that the infoboxes/inventory charts get very cluttered with info for characters that are randomized and level with the player (i.e. Raider (Fallout 3), Enclave Soldier (Fallout 3), Talon Company Merc, Fiends and so on). I've been adding in a "Variants" section (here's an example) for some of those types of pages. I'm just looking to see if you think this could solve the problem of cluttered infoboxes for this type of character and if so, if you have any ideas to improve/change the "Variant" section. 69.125.134.190 00:43, August 31, 2013 (UTC)

Infoboxes

I changed the height to 11px again and that -3px margin setting certainly helps because now it's all aligned again. To be honest, I was considering personally to cancel the whole thing with the modified stats, derived and tag skill template, it's beginning to give me a headache as problems keep coming at us with every attempted fix. Those line breaks really bug me (see Split Jack) and has got to go. Looking at Arkansas for the template example, that one looks decent now. Maybe we can also get rid of the first % when there's a modified derived stat 45→90% instead of 45%-90% if that helps to keep the line from breaking. Otherwise, on a page like Split Jack, I suggest we just plain use the old format. It's usable. I've seen your Fawkes infobox but I certainly don't want to go as far as using those short abbreviations. The stats won't be recognized anymore. Fiddle a bit with the templates to see if you can improve it a bit more. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:39, September 1, 2013 (UTC)

You're probably gonna curse me but I'm close to forgetting about this whole modified stats thing. It just may not be worth the trouble for +2 here and +5 there in stat change. I don't like the alternatives you suggest. The arrow should stay in my opinion. How about using the icon I just uploaded? I tried it in preview and it does save space when you set it to 5px. It needs more contrast though, darker green or another pretty color that contrasts well with the beige. Try it out in the template, ok? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:40, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
I see you added my arrow icon. Not quite right, needs to be much more contrast, so a darker image and a little more space between the first 0 and the arrow. Not sure if it will work but give it a try. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:51, September 2, 2013 (UTC)

( I changed the arrow icon to green and fiddled with the template parameters in your sandbox. It's looking better now anyway as there are no line breaks anymore. What do you think of it? I've also changed the order, according to the GECK. Hit Points should be at the top. Take a look, maybe you can improve it some more. Can you also take a look at the {{tag skills}} template, I think the parameters are unnecessary long which takes a long time for input. Like melee weapons, melee weapons max, energy weapons max etcetera. Better is for example melweap and melw max, those kind of parameters. You also scrape a bit of the parameters in the derived stats template, like poison resist max to mention one (pres max). Take in mind that with use of templates, there is no auto-complete anymore so now, the less typing, the better it is. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:52, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

Gotcha. And another unrelated question: Do you know why when {{Archivedforum}} is inserted at the top of a forum page, there is a blank line above the box (when the page has no Nukapedia icon in the top right)? It doesn't seem to be anything in the template's coding since it works fine on normal articles. --Skire (talk) 01:50, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

Emoticons & stuff

Hey Gunny, heard you've been wondering about why I added some of the out of scale emoticons. It's not a major issue but still I'd like you to know it from the horse's mouth. I explained it on the first discussion thread (linky!), but it's an embarrassingly old thread so it's understandable you don't remember. I did those as a trial run, the out of scale icons being placeholders for the definite ones in case they did get a positive reaction, and in case they didn't then I'd just remove the entries and thus no further work (such as the resizing of said icons) would be wasted. But as it turned out the aforelinked thread popped up, and I just put all plans regarding the emotes on hold till a consensus was reached, hence why said out of scale emotes remained on the list (including the unusable GNR one). In hindsight it staying for so many months was obviously a gross oversight, but then again in hindsight things seldom fail to be obvious. Still, I'm quite vexed that it went on for so long given that I was probably the most involved with emoticons, and I can't deny I'm at least partly to blame for the the lax condition. Fixing it up was literally at the top of my to-do list last month, for what it is worth (admittedly not much given my absence during said month). Which takes to another (again, utterly minor) topic, regarding my change to inactive status. It is my understanding that the definition of inactive was 6 months lacking in activity? I don't mean this in an accusatory nor outraged tone mind you, I was actually going to change it myself when I realized it was already done for me. I'm merely curious.

Hi! I was wondering about the line "This means that while The Terrible Shotgun has only two chances to jam after a full spent magazine, the double-barrel shotgun has 57." on the Double-barrel shotgun (Fallout 3) page. What exactly are the calculations that produce such a number? And what exactly is the "spent magazine" referring to? This note is somewhat confusing. 173.48.186.188 19:29, September 20, 2013 (UTC)

As a short re-cap, I would like to explain the situation: Information on the Gallows Humor article-page was removed for being un-sourced speculation. Gallows Humour was noted as a reference to the technical term for Gallows Humour, which can be found here. As seen, there is nothing between the two that are similar besides the name, which is dubious at best. We have exhausted discussion, and I have ended it due to no evidence with-coming, with their sole arguments being based on personal opinions and their perceptions of what's common sense.

FW:
I believe we've just about exhausted this debate, as we are now officially coming around full-circle. Here is what I've managed to collect from our efforts:

Pro-trivia:

  • Identical name/textual correlation.

Pro-speculation:

  • Gallow's Humour in Fallout 3 has absolutely nothing in-common with the technical term. This is proven here.
  • There are no allusions in-game to even suggest a direct correlation. There is only the name, which could simply be a coincidence with nothing else to back up the alleged reference.

Policies:

  • All content needs to be accurate. Fallout Wiki aims to provide reliable information. In particular, adding speculation and own inventions (fan fiction, fan art etc.) to articles should be avoided.
  • All content needs to be verifiable. Other editors need to be able to check and verify it.
  • All content needs to be objective. Opinions, gameplay strategy, and "my favorite"-style passages should not be added to articles.
  • In general, content should be written in a style appropriate for an encyclopedia. Descriptions should be clear and precise; speculations or uncertain facts should be avoided.

Conclusion:

  • This reference cannot be confirmed, which breaks policy.
  • The pro-trivia arguments have been based solely on personal opinion, which breaks policy.
  • The fact that there are editors unsure of this reference, as well as the subjective nature of the opposing party which has not presented any proof, whatsoever, makes this information an uncertain fact, which breaks policy.

I am going to leave that information on the article-page for the remainder of the day. But unless a source is provided verifying this information, I will be removing it by tonight.

I am following the policies to the letter here. I have started up discussions, and I have heard the opposing party's side. They have refused to show evidence, and have based their entire argument around opinion and conjecture. If no sources are provided, I have stated that I will be removing that information, in accordance with our multiple policies regarding this matter. However, it appears that there is still unrest, and I would like your input. I don't appreciate the fact that I am being filibustered when I am clearly in line with our policies, and they are breaking them every moment that information remains un-sourced. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:52, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

In order to ensure that this presentation of the situation at hand is not only given by those of one party who wish to remove the Gallows Humor note, I would like to present our side of the argument.

It is indeed true that we do not have an actual, valid source for the note. This is because it is not needed, due to the rather obvious nature of the note. Having to get sources for all claims of the sort is extremely impractical, and would surely result in the subsequent deletion of other similar notes. It is true that something being obvious is an opinion. But I believe the element of common sense (not used in a pejorative way, but specifically Cartesian common sense) is important when we write articles that surround a game world created by developers that are relatively hard to reach and not included amongst our wiki's staff. I have enumerated several examples of such cases in which the application of common sense has satisfyingly justified the addition of a note.

Furthermore, it is true that the term "gallows humour" has nothing to do with the content of the quest itself. However, we would contend that it is not necessary for word-play to strictly relate to the subject of the article. In addition, there is a certain element of humour to the quest due to its very nature, although this notion can be counted as opinion. When we have such matching terms, it would be absurd to say that the developers named the quest "Gallows Humor" purely by chance and that its matching with the real-world term "gallows humour" is totally coincidental. Naming the quest as "Gallows Humor" without acknowledging the real-world term of the same name is nonsensical in the context of the quest...

I am also prepared to go to a quick public referendum, if necessary, but I feel that may be unnecessary. I await your decision on this matter. --Skire (talk) 00:06, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

I would like to see (By way of community discussion, vote etc.) an amendment to the standing policy, something along the lines of, If present administrators/users feel that the reference is obvious enough they may add that reference to the article. Until then that's been sort of agreed upon, in terms of blatancy, but Leon is right, it technically isn't policy. So for now despite my feelings it should remain down. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 01:40, September 28, 2013 (UTC)

New Info

I suggested the idea of adding in new info to our current infoboxes in this forum, and I need help with the new parameters to at least create an example of what the new info would look like when implemented into the standard infobox. Don't worry; this won't be anywhere near as complicated as the character stats parameters, as there's no modifications, numeric data, etc. Can you read over the forum and see if you might want to help out? Thanks 69.l25 (talk) 18:18, October 12, 2013 (UTC)

All right. I'll try making a list of the additions in my sandbox in a little while. 69.l25 (talk) 18:29, October 12, 2013 (UTC)
Good news! I finished the example infobox; you can find it on the forum linked above or in my sandbox here. I'll continue to list all the possibilities for each new parameter. I started to do so here with class, but the possibilities for faction, aggression, confidence, assistance, physical traits, and combat style are still needed. I'll get them down soon. 68.197.229.108 00:07, October 13, 2013 (UTC)

Colour Palette

Due to the lack of community feedback involved with the style switcher feature I've recently proposed, in stark contrast to the high popularity it has received for making a presence here at Nukapedia, I would like to take this chance to ask the Bureaucrats to discuss and decide upon the 3 different colour blends we'd be using should the feature pass in the community vote. Right now, it appears that the green/brownish-gold blend used as Example 2 in my forum is decently liked. I'll be looking forward to what you guys comes up with, and I'll have the community vote thrown up as soon as we get our choices in. Thanks in advance. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 15:22, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

Actually, I can make this really simple! Visit this wiki and experiment with what changes and what doesn't when switching colour blends. I have an article-page for Arcade Gannon set up there so you can see what the colours will look like with stuff such as the info-boxes and nav-boxes. If you're not sure of how to switch styles, the examples on the forum I linked earlier will show you the way. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:15, October 14, 2013 (UTC)
  • Changes the background colour for in-between the side-bars. As a side-note, I'm not sure how this would affect our wiki if we used a transparent background.
  • Changes the wiki header. For instance, Nukapedia's is a a jade-green mixed with black where Video Games/Entertainment/Lifestyle is seen at.
  • (Optional) Changes the text colours. I'd only be comfortable offering white or black.
  • Changes the second header colours. These are seen around the edit button/On the Wiki/Popular pages/Community.

Anything can be done with a little code here and there. Unfortunately, I'm an ignorant when it comes to the processes behind this concept. I'll have to discuss this further with Pecoes, as I'm sure we could get something worked out there. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 08:55, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Request for Inquiry

I am contacting you over a matter that arose on Jspoelstra's talk page. In the course of a rather heated discussion concerning the issue of violation of the Creative Commons license. Agent c, one of your staff members, has openly accused me of attempting to commit fraud:

It is suggesting you are perpetuating a fraud on your readership, when in reality you exercised those rights to fork the wiki over there in the first place.
Then what is the point of having the CC marks if you have no intention on allowing anyone to use the CC licnse for your work. To place them there is to commit a fraud by implying your work is available under that license, when it is not
If you are choosing to use a nitpicky argument to work against the spirit (That people are free to use, and reuse, anything they like, subject to following the license), then you are simply using the license to commit a fraud.

The claims refer to my attempts to formulate a consistent policy and means of attributing content shared under Creative Commons 3.0, pursuant to the license's provisions (which specify that usage of the content hinges on proper attribution as specified by the Licensor, per section 4(d) of the license and the interpretation guidelines in the form of the official abridged version of the license).

I would like to request your intervention in this matter, as I am afraid that the situation has degenerated. Attempts at formulating a compromise are met with hostility and accusations of criminal conduct. I simply am trying to create a common understanding to prevent such problems from arising ever again. Then what is the point of having the CC marks if you have no intention on allowing anyone to use the CC licnse for your work. To place them there is to commit a fraud by implying your work is available under that license, when it is not
Either the content on the Vault is either available under CC, or it isn't. Tag seems to bounce between "it is" to "it isn't unless I say it is, despite the marks being on the page". If the work is not available, this would be a falsehood and deliberately misleading.
If you are choosing to use a nitpicky argument to work against the spirit (That people are free to use, and reuse, anything they like, subject to following the license), then you are simply using the license to commit a fraud.

If Tag is making the claim that it is available under CC, but is then find ways not to allow the work to be used, then yes, this would be against the spirit of the CC, and gives the user the false impression that the work is available to use when it is not. If the work is not available, this would be a falsehood and deliberately misleading.

The claims refer to my attempts to formulate a consistent policy and means of attributing content shared under Creative Commons 3.0, pursuant to the license's provisions

Tags actual consistent policy suggestion is for both sides to pretend the CC license doesnt exist and remove work where a user has either correctly licensed, or has attempted to correctly license the work. Immediatley prior to him posting this I directly asked him what the correct attribution method was. If he gives an attribtion method that can be used, then indeed we have the compromise he allegedly seeks and I'm happy to withdraw my allegations. However, if he continues to refuse to answer, or demand we dont use his work, then I think my allegations are fair comment. Agent c (talk) 10:45, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

And I see he has indeed posted after me directly asking him what the correct attribution method was without . This makes me highly suspicious of his claim to "attempt(s) to formulate a consistent policy and means of attributing content" as when asked directly, he failed to answer the question. Agent c (talk) 10:55, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

Att. policy

Hey Gunny, I've decided to drop you a line about this. I've been mulling over this since yesterday, when it became clear that we need a consistent attribution policy. I've posted a draft on The Vault's own forum.

It's intended to provide both proper credit (as it stands, noting the name of the original site in the edit summary violates the license section 4(d)) and motivate users to create original content. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 11:32, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

My allegations are of course now cheerfully withdrawn. Agent c (talk) 11:46, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

Personally, I'd just like for Chad to take a chill pill and stop hounding me whenever I appear to bitch and moan about something rubbing me the wrong way. I'd like to respect and like him, I really would, but he makes that impossible with his behavior. As a person with a Master of Laws degree who openly associates the nickname with his real name, accusations of fraud are particularly problematic, as even though they are untrue, they stick and can damage my reputation. As you are well aware, potential employers are using Google and other means to do background checks on potential hires. Coming up when they look for fraud is pretty ruining.

I'm not particularly attached to where the attribution bar should be place, though if you agreed to place ours at the top, we would definitely reciprocate and place yours wherever you want it to be placed. I believe placing them at the top is more beneficial, as it will greatly encourage writing original content, which, as I'm sure you understand, is much better in terms of reputation and SEO.

Good to hear from you, TG. Personal_Sig_Image.gif Tagaziel (call!) 09:13, October 18, 2013 (UTC)

Hello Gunny, rarely I do this so please abide any mistakes

Richie is banning 3 accounts, for a good reason to. Not only has this person made 2 sock accounts and did not notify an admin (which I believe is a rule), he also pushed richie9999's temper.

the three sock accounts and one main account is: BladedNero Bladed Zero Fireburn12 is a dick Fireburn12 is still a dick

Richie wants him banned from the wiki completely. if you would like more information, feel free to check the logs of chat, ask richie, and ask me (in chat). Another thing for you not to look at the logs, and depending on when you see this, this was constantly going on from 11/2/13 to 11/3/13 most likely between the times of 12:30 - to 2:00.

Richie commented on the whole situation when I asked him specifically for what he did that violated the rules: Personal attacks violate the chat rules. The username was a personal attack. As such it didn't belon in chat. As it was an obvious sock, the original account was banned in the manner of a user who had made the attack. In addition to the warnings for spam, etc.

Thank you Gunny--Fireburn12 (talk) 06:56, November 3, 2013 (UTC)I need a signature

P.S. I do not know completely if richie wants a complete ban from the wiki itself, ask him about that.

Hey gunny. Richie9999 needs to ban someone completely from the wiki (ip ban) though I do believe this person is going to change his IP and continue on with the personal attacks, anyway

This person made sock accounts: Stated here (main account) BladedNero BladedZero Fireburn12 is a dick Fireburn12 is still a dick Richie9999 is a dick

Style Switcher

Alright, I'm talking with a couple people from Wikia, and I'm waiting for Pecoes to give me an update. Hopefully, we'll have everything set up in a week or two. Have we decided on colour blends? If so, go ahead and send them my way so I can get some examples made out. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 00:37, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

I'm confused. Are you proposing alternative wiki backgrounds, as well? ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 22:18, November 6, 2013 (UTC)
There seems to be a misunderstanding. We were discussing just different color schemes in the forum thread, not changing of banner, Gunny. I'm against that. I want to be careful, I'd like to do it one step at a time. How about we try the one I made (very much like Leon's style #2): JS alternative background and see how that pans out. It's fairly simple but effective, light text on dark background, and it seems to go well with the infoboxes. The banner stays as it is. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:18, November 6, 2013 (UTC)
That sounds good, J. We're working out a few kinks with the style switcher also changing text colour. But as soon as we get that figured out, we can see how others like that example before we begin discussing additional options. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:26, November 6, 2013 (UTC)
Ok, was gonna forward my message to your talkpage but you're too fast for me :) First let's see if we get an easy and fitting scheme already to work there, then we can go from there if needed. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:35, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

I have no idea what either of you are talking about. Leon asked for "themes". I looked at his test wiki and it used new background images (the picture outside the article space), new header (the thingie at the top of each page that has the wikia links), button (all the stuff that's bright green now, like the nav menu and "edit" buttons) and (page) colors (article background). I was asked to come up with some alternatives. I did. I have no idea what is meant by "banner". There is nothing named "banner" in the theme designer. The only changes suggested are the 4 things you can do in the theme designer: background image, button color, header color and page color. If this isn't what you wanted, Leon, you were no where near clear enough. I'll leave this to you guys. You can move the conversation off my talk page. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 23:44, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

I was very clear. :/ I linked you to the discussion earlier which detailed what exactly would be changed using the style changer. I even provided images showing what changed after switching between colour blends. Anyways, I'll discuss this further with J. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:53, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

( Have to say this here. I meant by banner actually the background image (green tile). That stays the same. The rest (button color, header color and page color) changes. I understand Leon's testwiki is confusing because it does not have our green background, just like in the forum thread about this subject btw. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:00, November 7, 2013 (UTC)

Visual Edtor on Angry Birds wiki

I just received a few answers for questions I had on the Visual Editor from BertH. You can see it enabled on the Angry Birds wiki. At the moment it's giving loadings errors and also take a look at the screen width. Too wide for my taste from the looks of it. What do you think? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:50, November 7, 2013 (UTC)

Yes you're right, they're using both, was informed by BertH of that today. We would just use the Visual Editor, but the introduction of Fluid Layout won't be that long anymore and mandatory, so it would be good if you can take a look at our CSS. Let's wait until the loading errors are fixed and then try the Visual Editor out for a few weeks. We can always disable it/vote for it after that. What do you think? Interesting Discovery

Hey Gunny, it seems that I've stumbled across something that may have been unintended. The {{Fact}} template seems to function exactly like the {{Verify}} template. It adds the Verification Needed subtext and add's the Verify category to pages marked with it. It seems to be tied back to the Verify template in some form as we don't have a separate template for it. Is there something in the code of the template that is causing this? ---bleep196- (talk) 20:25, November 7, 2013 (UTC)

I was wondering what was going on. A redirect makes sense, because I looked at the code and there was nothing about fact in there other than it should be used to mark facts that need verification. ---bleep196- (talk) 20:33, November 7, 2013 (UTC)

Chat conduct guideline changes

Hey Gunny. In light of Saint Pain's chat ban and after some discussion with Leon and J I've decided to do some minor re-writes to the chat conduct guideline page. Basically what I'm looking to do is:

  • Remove the current ban guidelines and give more leeway for mods to ban people on a case-by-case basis
  • Add a provision for perma-banned users to appeal their ban immediately to a bureaucrat

There's a few other re-wordings and some stuff moved around, but those are the big things I think need need changing. You can find a draft here. I included an original copy of the guideline so you can see the changes. Please let me know what you think and if this is something you support.
