Background[edit | edit source]
Though one might assume that The Institute is headquartered at the old Commonwealth Institute of Technology building, the college has lain in ruin for the past two centuries. Yet the Institute saw fit to fortify the area with synths, in a deliberate attempt to provide any would-be attackers seeking to invade their sheltered halls with a decoy. Those exploring the derelict C.I.T. will find themselves with little reward - and likely plenty of damage and death.
Layout[edit | edit source]
The exterior of the C.I.T. is shaped like a horseshoe and sits on the northern bank of the Charles River. There is very little of note outside. The rotunda itself is beautiful to look at and fight in, but contains very little meaningful loot and no information as to the whereabouts of the Institute. That is, unless the player has started Hunter/Hunted...
Notable loot[edit | edit source]
- Mini nuke inside.

- Fallout 4 Vault Dweller's Survival Guide Collector's Edition p.408: "[7.09] C.I.T. RUINS
Perhaps the greatest fallacy about the Institute is where it’s actually located. Some assume the organization is headquartered in the old Commonwealth Institute of Technology’s central domed building—in Cambridge, on the north side of the Charles River. And why not? After all, at some point it had been fortified and was clearly meant to keep out intruders. And that’s exactly what the Institute wants people to think. In truth, the above-ground Institute facility is merely a façade. A structure meant to both instill fear in the people of the Commonwealth and hide the true scope and depth of the actual Institute."
