Great to hear from you mate. It'd be great if I could hold onto a Patron I'm looking to get back involved in the maintenance and community. Hope all has been well! Kiwi 3992205 16:00, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Van Buren location pages

I wasn't sure about it, but after you moved them leaving hundreds of red links, I reverted it all again. Now, an hour later and after checking all other Van Buren pages I see that most other pages are decapped, except for the location pages. Suppose it's ok to decap those then. (I assume you do all of them). Don't know about the Robot parts page, try User:Korney San, he's the one who created the page. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:04, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Why are you moving pages again? Just leave a redirect. Also, your bans are a bit steep. I often see you give a 2 weeks ban for a first offense. Cudder x's ban was set at 3 days by Gunny, just removing his talkpage right would have been enough, you didn't have to up it that much. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:20, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't know what's going on with user retrieval over at The Vault. It worked without a hitch for me, but everyone else is finding it impossible to re-access their accounts. -_- --Kastera (talk) 04:10, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

I can't keep up with the changes

I don't know what to say.

I hope I have not turned you against me.

  • I might agree with some of the people some of the time, and some other people other times but I can not agree with all of the people, all of the time.

All the people, even odd balls, should have a representative. I hope you can be one.

Just don't ask me to hold my tongue or support what I know in my heart is wrong.

Anon voting on polls is sketchy as they can avoid IP address issues for free at Mc Donalds and countless, coffee shops, schools or other libraries the list could go on and on.

  • I suggest let them post on articles.. They can be easily fixed by our already proven dedicated army of editors.

However If they want a standing opinon.. They should join & be held accountable for their voice. Anons are not alowed in chat. Why should they be allowed to vote ?

  • I say be a member and take credit or blame for every thing you write.

"Speculation My Butt"

This hypocritical silliness is driving nuts. The item is called "Dandy Boy Apples", And the company is called "Andy Boy". The only difference between the two is the addition of the letter "D" and the addition of word "Apples". If you read something in a game called "Rodunkin Chocolate Doughnuts" you can't convince me it wasn't intended to be a direct reference to Dunkin Doughnuts. But just to nail this head in even further, Andy Boy sells produce, and the item includes the addition of the word "Apples"; APPLES! This reference isn't subtle at all, it's blatantly obvious.

If after all I've said and you're still not convinced, then I officially I give up. This has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever argued about, and it's only because it is so stupid that I'm even arguing it to this extent in the first place.

But here is other thing that got me worked up about this whole thing. Most of the editors on this site are only editing for the bragging rights of those dumb tokens you guys hand out. Why else would an edit be removed within less than two minutes of it being posted? At that speed you know they barely considered what they were doing. As an anonymous user I feel like I have to fight tooth and nail with every single edit. Even if it's something stupid that should obviously be changed.--108.183.41.123 08:21, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Let me break this down. Their is only two parts of the item "Dandy Boy Apples" item that makes it an indirect reference to "Andy Boy ------" produce company.
The first is the "D" in "Dandy Boy", instead of it simply being called "Andy Boy". This is why I'm ninety-nine percent positive this is a developer-intended reference. First, ask yourself why they choose to use the words dandy and boy, together. They could have used anything! They could have called them Good Boy or Happy Girl or Laughing Man or any other numerous combinations. They could have even called them Apples in a Box. Just why did they choose those two specific words that are so similar to the company's namesake? It's far too coincidental for this not to be on purpose. The chances of it being coincidental is that missing one-percent.
The second, as you pointed out, is the use of the word "Apples". And I actually do agree with you to some extent on this point, however, it still works with the reference. In part I agree with you because if the item in-game was called "Andy Boy Mufflers" for example, we definitely wouldn't consider it a reference to the Andy Boy produce company because Andy Boy isn't an automotive company. However, it is a produce company. When someone thinks of produce, their going to think of any fruit or vegetable. So if the in-game item was called "Andy Boy Apples" or "Andy Boy Mangos", people would consider it odd that the item has a fruit in it that the company doesn't sell. But on the other hand, since it is a form of produce (and they are a produce selling company), people would still recognize the reference to the company regardless.
On a side note, information about the company on the internet seems to be rather scarce from what I can tell. They've been around since 1927, all across the nation, so it would not surprise me at all if at some point in time they sold apples, even if they don't now.
If after I've broken this all down and you still disagree with me, whatever. It's not important to me anymore, and their is no better way I could have explained it.
I certainly don't regret my edit, or even my initial reaction to it's removal, because the guy was a total jack wagon. They removed the edit in less than two minutes, which makes me highly doubtful they even considered it at all. And then they come up with the most obscene excuse I've ever heard of. Instead of saying something like "let's get opinions of more contributers first", or something like that, they immediately resort to "ask a developer". Like I have contacts with video game developers, pfffft. Or that even if I did, like I'm going to bother them with something so trivial, rightttttt. And yes, the task was forced upon me because I strongly doubt the person who disagrees with the edit in the first place is going to take that kind of initiative. But lastly, at the time I considered it a direct enough reference that we certainly didn't need it. So the suggestion that we needed a developer's consent made it all the more insulting. Also I was never angry with you, frustrated, not angry.
But finally I'm not making presumptions here, I've experienced it personally. I once removed something that indisputably false information. And within just a few minutes later some jerk reversed it. A day later I redid the edit again and nobody refuted it. So tell me, what possible motivation could that person have? A honest mistake is a possibility but it's doubtful. And considering this was certainly not the first time, I strongly believe that the bragging rights are to blame. Nearly all my edits get reversed, most of which I'm too lazy to give a crap about. Even simple grammar edits get changed. And I don't make edits in less I'm positive it's the right thing to do, so you can see where I'm coming from here. It's absolutely frustrating to make any edit at all because their is a near certainty some overzealous bonehead is just going to remove it as soon as you post it.--108.183.41.123 09:02, June 11, 2013 (UTC)

Ciao

Hey man, I saw you venting on FB about the whole love thing. Just so you know, all I was doing was trying to inject some humour into their little argument, and that was one of the ways. If you look at all I wrote, I also made sure people didn't take that seriously and drag you into it. It was just taking the piss out of how stupid the whole argument was.

Anyway, I disagree personally that love is disrespectful, and think it's more of an interchangeable term of endearment, like you would use mate or man for a guy.

This taught me an important personal lesson though; the guys are right, you can't say anything on chat without people searching through the logs to find something to be offended by. Sorry if you are offended, but you need to look further next time. Everyone there understood what I was doing and that the whole thing was a joke: that's the problem with not being there, it removes a lot of context.

-- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 13:54, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Oh right. Yeah, I was uning it to point out how ridiculous the entire argument was, nothing more. It started around 2 my time, so probably before 1 if you want to look it up on the chat logs for peace of mind. I just wanted you to know that I wasn't dragging you into it, and was just using it to be sarcastic. Nothing more.

Here you go, found what I said, cutting out the middle buts because no-one was paying attention to what I was saying anyhow. <Ug-Qualtoth> Wait, something interesting. In leon's last message to her, he addressed her as 'love'. "Sorry that I didn't make it last night, love. Something came up and I wasn't back home until late. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 23:18, June 7, 2013 (UTC) " Is that demeaning language? Discuss. <Ug-Qualtoth> No, I left and then came back when I saw Leon's message. I just though it was interesting that he decided to call her love. <Ug-Qualtoth> However, I'm not trying to drag Leon into it <Ug-Qualtoth> Personally, I think objecting to terms like that is objecting for the sake of objecting. It's just like calling a man 'mate' or 'pal'. <Ug-Qualtoth> You'd sound like a knob if that was a women

There you have it. No problem, right? :) I think that the n-word thing is pertinent for a completely different reason. Some black people do get annoyed with anyone using it (Oprah), some advocate its use by all in order to destigmatise it (Donald Glover) and some think that only black people should use it (Jay-Z). This is just like feminism and the whole chauvinism argument because there is no agreement on what is offensive and what isn't. I think in general though, black people would get annoyed with someone using the n word, especially here. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 16:37, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Well I definitely think you're in the minority there. Personally, I think seen as it has it has it's roots in degradation, it should be left alone. But I'd only hold it against someone if they tried to use it derogatorily.

Steer clear of using 'rape my rig' too. That's not cool; ever. What Hawk said was fucking awful. Just think about writing something like that in future, especially bearing in mind that that is now permanently bound to your account and is, in my opinion, a mark on your character. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 17:41, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Oh yeah, that common and utterly acceptable figure of speech. I disagree with the majority of the points on there. And to use your own words, 'It is not up to us to determine whether a word is offensive or not. The only ones who have the right to do so are the ones a word personally affects.' Well, it personally affects me, and I'm offended.

"If someone... feels uncomfortable... I defend their right to ask others to stop. The same goes for rape - if a rape victim or observer is personally touched by the term, then they have a right to shut down if others are making light of it." It's not quite so close as an observer (why the fuck would someone observe that and not do something?) or victim, but its close enough. So, as I know by your own words that you linked that you'll back me up on this. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 18:31, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Well then, count me among the 'observers'. And you 'don't necessarily condone it'? Necessarily? I'd hope you wouldn't condone it at all. And, in this instance, only animals and people have birth canals. Like I said, I take exception to what you said, but understand your meaning. What Eric said is fucking disgraceful at any rate, and is way to close to the bone when it comes to rape, regardless of personal outlook. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 19:12, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Then I think this is definitely the point to draw a line under this. I'll pass on that conversation, I can't see that we will share the same views. Goals, perhaps, methods, probably not. Thankfully, I know enough about nihilism to make that call ;) Professionalism is probably not the best reason for ending this where it is, as I doubt it was a professional thing to say in the first place, but I think it'd be best to stop here for our friendship if nothing else. See you around Leon :) -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 19:32, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

I certainly understand there are degrees of it, as with any philosophy, but if you self identify as a nihilist, then the degree is already certain in its lower threshold. Your right, it won't be. But I wasn't going to come across what Hawk said and not say anything, I'm not that kind of guy. Equally, I'm pleased I'm not the only one who though that was out of order, and as far as I'm concerned, it's been dealt with, and it's over. I'm here for content creation, not for arguments.

Template move

Why did you rename the pre-war company template? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 00:03, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Pre-War was used in the articles. The template used the correct form in the title parameter. What you've done by renaming the template is force the page to call the template through the redirect, not to mention you only changed the name of the template and did not change any of the template coding or associated template doc that calls on the template also. Are you going to correct all the pages linking to the template and correct the template and doc so we can get rid of the calls through the redirect? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg
That's my point. All you've done is rename the template. The title of the navbox, what is actually displayed on the page, is a parameter that is already using the correct form, i.e. Pre-War. The usage of the template {{Navbox pre-war companies}} is not only not displayed on the page, but is still exactly that in the source code of the pages. Either you are extending the article page naming standards to the template page, which frankly is not needed, or you have a problem with the template usage in the source code of a page not meeting article page standards, which is also not needed. What I don't want is any template calls going through redirects. Our pages take long enough to load as it is. If for some reason you still need to have the template page meet the naming standards, you'll have to not only change all the page links, but also change the template itself and the doc so we can get rid of the redirects. I don't understand why you felt the need to rename a template that was functioning properly. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:10, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
Well that means that the display title parameter in the navbox is somehow screwed up. If the title parameter is defined, it should override the default {{PAGENAME}} title set up in the navbox template. All we really needed to do is figure out why that wasn't working right and fix that, rather than go through all the extra work. The pre-war countries navbox is rendering the title correctly, so there must be something wrong in the pre-war companies one. I'll see if I can find it. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:18, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
Go ahead and finish then. The edit link to the template doc is right on the template page itself, in the template documentation header. Easiest way to get there. Or just navigate to template:templatename/doc. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:23, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
Go ahead and delete the redirect after you get all the links, if you would. Check "what links here" on the redirect page before you delete it to make sure you got them all, or you'll just have Js asking about the red links in the morning. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:27, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Marigold Station

I'm not going to argue about the capitalisation, but please do not ever move such a page without leaving a redirect behind. There are now hundreds of red links. --Skire (talk) 01:36, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Invent some non-existent "condescension" on my part if you wish, but my message was to serve one function: to inform you of the red links we have left behind from not leaving a redirect. The redirects should be removed once all the links are cleared, which at this point there are still many remaining. Furthermore, this provides a chance to fix any double redirects resulting. I am currently going through and fixing links and double redirects and will delete the page when the task is complete. I am quite saddened that a well-intended, benign message could be taken with such animosity and vitriol. --Skire (talk) 01:43, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
I put the "please" there to make it sound like more of a polite request. I have never told you what to do in my time here and will not start now. And I also just got to see Gunny's message above, "Go ahead and delete the redirect after you get all the links, if you would. Check "what links here" on the redirect page before you delete it to make sure you got them all..." There is no benefit in having red links like these. Anyway, I'm going to run those fixes now. I sincerely hope that at this point it is clear I have only the utmost respect for you and every message I send is in good-faith with well-meaning intentions, and I apologise for any miscommunication on my part. --Skire (talk) 01:50, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

I said it was speculation as I lacked any info that indicated they were homosexual or lovers or anything along those lines. I hadn't noticed Ausir's post on the article talk page and nonetheless feel a small degree of doubt over adding information based on trusting a third party. Companies

I reverted the companies. I believe "Company" is capped. And I don't why you are so keen on moving instead of redirecting. First redirect, then return to the redirect, click on WhatLinksHere and change these links to the new page. Then you can delete the redirect. Not the other way around. A few days ago the same thing happened to the Van Buren pages. Probably escaped your attention, but I had to correct dozens of red links. If I hadn't seen it the links probably still would have been there. And now you're giving Skire work he didn't ask for. First ask around before you do something this drastic. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:42, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not going to revert it (yet). I want a second (or third) opinion. On wikipedia, in real-life, it's Coca-Cola Company with a capital C, see wikipedia. Only logical that the game's equivalent is Nuka-Cola Company. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:53, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
Who told you about not making redirects anymore? Gunny? He probably meant, first fix the old links to the new page, then delete the redirect. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:55, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
I specifically told you that I don't want any templates linking through redirects. Not that I don't think we should keep redirects to an absolute minimum anyways, but the conversation we had was solely about a redirect linking through a template. Your interpretation that I meant all redirects is of your own making. I also suggested that you fix the pages in the manner above, clear the links through "what links here" on the redirect page and then delete. If you have to do it some other way because of your hardware limitations, that's fine, as long as the links get cleaned up and the redirect gets deleted, like we would expect from anyone. Just so you know, we've been working on reducing the number of redirects for quite some time. A ton of work has gone into it and we've deleted hundreds of them. I guess this may be something you weren't aware of. Keeping the number of unneeded redirects to a minimum will be a big help. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:52, June 13, 2013 (UTC)
We have had this talk before, in chat. You were specifically complaining about all of the unnecessary redirects, and how you were attempting to remove them. That's the whole reason why I've been doing all of this, especially with the VB pages - since those definitely don't need any redirects. The nav-box re-naming issue is just the most recent discussion you and I have had over this. But yes, I am going through all of the passages and am cleaning them all out. Mostly manual, but I have a bot that's going to be helping soon. (Not relating to the nav-box.) ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 19:56, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

Try to get information where you can on Van Buren pages before you remove a stub. For example I found information for the Successfully subdue engineer without alerting others quest on the B.O.M.B.-001 command center#Engineering Core page by checking the WhatLinksHere option. Redirects

I prefer changing the links and deleting the redirect. That's what I've been doing. Of course on pages with a huge number of links, this becomes more problematic. Also there are some redirects that make sense to have, but generally ones created from page moves due to spelling, etc, those make no sense at all to keep. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 23:43, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

You and your colleagues are by definition tyrants, and hypocrites at that. Fortunately your unchecked and worthless power does not grasp beyond this Wikia, although I do feel bad for those who wish to enjoy the offerings of this website and have to be subjected by the harassment from individuals like yourself, which seems to make up the entirety of the Fallout Wikia administration.. I find it silly as well that you think removing my right to speech on the chats has phased me in anyway, it has simply proven my hypothesis on the characteristics of you and your subordinates.Understand where we'd be without the freedoms that you desire so much to take awayMegamanacses (talk) 20:10, June 18, 2013 (UTC)

Vaults

Why is information about "Secret Vaults" from the none canon game Fallout Brotherhood of Steel allowed to be on the main page of Vaults without any disclaimers. It does confuse people. They see it on the main page and think it is apart of Fallout canon. It shouldn't be allowed IMO.

Edit: Saw your message to me. But my point is there should be something there to say "this isn't canon."

--StylesV13 (talk) 21:59, June 19, 2013 (UTC)StylesV13

I see your point but didn't Bethesda say Fallout Brotherhood of Steel isn't canon? I am sure they did in an interview with the people from MMA. And didn't Interplay under Hervé Caen say themselves that Fallout Brotherhood of Steel isn't canon. I get that it should be included in the wiki. It has its own page and subpages that have disclaimers. But information from the game shouldn't be included in other main topics such as Vaults without disclaimers. Just my two cents. I am sorry if I am being annoying, I am not trying to pick a fight/ruffle people's feathers. The game just bugs me, thanks for the replies and your explanation.

When I get the time I will go about putting in disclaimers.

Uploaded Images

It was late and it had been sometime since I last uploaded an image, I forgot about the cursor thing. Jspoelstra has taken care of it from the looks of it :). I will remember it for the future. I was surprised those images weren't already here, as you said I guess not to many people look up.

I posted them because someone on the Bethesda forum said that there was no mention of World War 2 by Bethesda and I knew that wasn't right. So I reinstalled the game and went to the Museum to prove it. I also checked out the Resource Wars section and I noticed that there is no mention of Bethesda including a metion of it in Fallout 3.

GECK

We use everything that's in the GECK. What I've used most is the NPC branch for stats and also the items branch. This branch links to weapons, armors, notes and ammo with all their stats and let's not forget images (rightmouse, then click preview). Also, when you rightclick on an item and then click Use Info, at the bottom you see Used in this Cells. That marks the location(s) of the item. Game Effects has consumables, Actor Data branch has quests and their id's. In another tab you have the World Space data. It opens with Interiors. You can also browse to the Exterior world map. It has all the info on locations. Experiment a bit with it. Most info we already have, mostly in the infoboxes. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:03, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

RE from Jspoel's talk:From what I gather the Fallout 1 & 2 dialogues might not have been done correctly. And I already created the project.--Ant2242 (talk) 18:00, June 25, 2013 (UTC) That sounds good. Might make finding dialogue easier. Since I lacked the ability to gather the information until recently, I've just been going by a transcribing project.--Ant2242 (talk) 18:41, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Unblocked 69.125

I unblocked 69.125. He's correcting a lot of information in the infoboxes. Don't you remember he gave you those great images yesterday? There has to be a reason why he removed information on the Enclave soldier page. Probably because it's incorrect and he's working on getting the right information. I'll ask him why he did that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:45, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Temporary Companions

I just added some stuff to the temporary companions section of the Fallout 3 companions page, and I figured I'd try and get a group image of the temporary companions like the one for permanent companions, so I did. If you have the time, would you mind uploading it for me if I post the link? 69.125.134.190 21:42, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading it. Anyway, James is not technically a companion, and the Project Purity scientists follow Doctor Li, not the player. I was planning on making infoboxes for DLC companions before attempting to get an image. 69.125.134.190 02:18, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Fallout 3/NV dialogues

It's a fairly futile project in my opinion. It's an absolute monks work. There are thousands of lines, columns and branches. Caesar alone has hundreds of lines and then for example what questline generates which new lines? So many variables. When you look at the Fallout1/2 dialogue project, which has a much, much shorter and easier dialogue file, that has not even been completed by far with missing character player in the dialogue files ({Vault Dweller} or {Chosen One}). You could generate a text dump like I explained to Ant2242, but look at the result on The Vault, John Henry Eden. No one's going to read that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:55, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Ok let me see then. I'm curious. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:00, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

I don't understand. Where is this coming from? What is it supposed to be? -- pecoes 23:17, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Not sure if that helps, but this is the relevant HTML...

<div class="diabox-half">
    <p>
        <i>"What brings you, wayfarer grim, to wander here,
        in Sovngarde, souls-end, Shor's gift to honored dead?"</i>
    </p>
    <ul>
        <li><b>Who are you?</b></li>
        <li><b>I pursue Alduin, the World Eater.</b></li>
        <li><b>I seek entrance to the Hall of Valor.</b></li>
    </ul>
</div>

...and this is the relevant CSS:

div.diabox-half {
    width: 400px;
}
div.diabox, div.diabox-half {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #111111;
    border-radius: 5px;
    margin: 10px;
    padding: 10px;
}
div.diabox i, div.diabox-half i {
    color: #888888;
    font-style: italic;
}

Everything else is vanilla Wikia/mediaWiki -- pecoes 23:31, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

No problem. I hoped it helped a little -- pecoes 23:47, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Hello GarouxBloodline, I got your message. Yes, the above css is all I used to style the dialogue trees on Elder Scrolls. Anything placed within the "diabox-half" div will appear inside the rounded box. Any text that is italic will automatically be styled as grey. You can add or remove rules or conditions if you want. If you use the "diabox" class instead, the box will be full width as opposed to 400px. --Jimeee (talk) 13:13, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Ground plane

Image ground plane

I remember I had the same question when I started out here and still needed to learn my way around the GECK. Here's what I get when I click on preview in the GECK. I have a menu on the left side which you seem to be missing. If I uncheck ground plane, it's removed as you can see. You can also adjust background color to get a good contrast between the image and the background which helps when you need an optimized transparent image. Try and see if you can get that menu to appear somehow. I got it by rightmouse clicking on the branch item, then select Preview. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:06, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Rocksalt Image

I'm not going to be annoying and ask for you to upload images for me; however, I would really like your opinion on the image of the female Rocksalt on the Rocksalt page. I'm pretty sure I'm just making a big deal out of this, but the player character of whoever made the image is clearly seen in the background. Again, I don't know if it's really important, but it just seems kind of weird to have someone's character in the background. Plus, if this image is replaced, it invites an opportunity to show Rocksalt's face instead of having it covered by a hockey mask. What do you think? 69.125.134.190 08:29, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

I never noticed the gray ending at the end of the tunnel before, but I agree that it does kind of ruin the picture. I could always get new images. The lighting in both pictures also seems kind of bland, but I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem if someone else gets an image. Oh, and I know this is kind of random, but I meant to add suggestion for a group shot of the Vault 101 officers on the Vault 101 Security talk page. Do you think a group shot of them would be a good idea? 69.125.134.190 09:12, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

I've checked Gaius Magnus's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. twice. Once it came up as having an 11, and once it came up as 10. I was sure S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s couldn't be larger than 10, and while this is true for the player, I'm just going to check Magnus's charisma a third time to see what comes up. 69.125.134.190 19:22, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

S.P.E.C.I.A.L.s in the G.E.C.K. don't account for armor and clothing bonuses in the stats section. Instead, a little more work has to be done to figure out what a character's S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is in-game. I usually just set up conditioned scripts or dialogues where an action will only occur if a character's strength is 6 for example if I'm trying to determine an NPC's strength. 69.125.134.190 19:28, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
I agree with what you said on my talk page; however, that only applies to the player, not for NPCs. I agree that it doesn't make sense, but I just tested Magnus's Charisma, and I got that it was equal to 11. 69.125.134.190 19:37, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
I'd be glad to show you how I checked his stats, but how familiar are you with the G.E.C.K. and do you know how to make dialogue? 69.125.134.190 19:42, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
So, do you want me to try to explain to you how you can check for his charisma? It's shouldn't be too difficult. 69.125.134.190 19:46, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, well the first thing to do is create a new NPC, naming it something that you can remember, and setting Gaius Magnus as the ActorBade in the template date section of the NPC. I'd check "Use traits", "Use stats", and "Use Inventory". You could check "Use base date" too but that's not really too important. Just make sure after you check all, you should then uncheck it. All the date it used from the ActorBase should still be there, but it won't be in gray which means it's now modifiable. 69.125.134.190 19:52, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Now just set up a new quest. Again, just same it something you'll remember. After this, add in the topic "GREETING" in the "topics" section. Also, create a new topic (it can be called anything), and add it in to the "topics" section. 69.125.134.190 20:02, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
There was only one more step to go but oh well. That's the G.E.C.K. for you. Anyway, I'll make the changes now. I'm just going to check with Royez before I edit his page. 69.125.134.190 20:10, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Expandable/collapsible

I'm not sure you are aware, but we already have an expandable/collapsible content template on the wiki. There's no need for two, unless there's something that Porter's does that mine didn't, and I can't think of anything since I added more options to mine when I made it. Is there something {{Collapsible content}} is not doing that you need done? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:30, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

You need no extra parameters for the collapsible content template. You can use it exactly like Porter's. There's no need for two templates that do the exact same thing. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:53, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
I don't understand your point. Both templates spawn almost the same exact html output, and can be used with the exact same mediawiki markup text, except for the template name. Neither is more simple than the other. If you can come up with a legitimate reason why we need two almost exact templates that do the same thing, I'll consider keeping it. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:08, June 27, 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, accidentally posted this on my page:
Collaspible content
{{Expandable content|Expandable content}}
If you prefer "expand/collapse" over the default mediawiki "show/hide" I can change that in the template. That's one of the reasons I added a custom parameter, so we could change the collapse text if we wanted to. But I don't have a preference over either of the above, if you do. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:29, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

OK. I finally found where Clyde gave the OK to use the "news" category. Right now thought, you might want to look at which cats you're using, since SMN is showing up both in the news and community news. That means it's in both sections on the front page. Which one do would you rather have it in? News? or Community? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:41, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Re: TV

I don't know if I've ever directly said this, but I've defiantly alluded to the fact that what I really care about is the information, and if there's a sight out there that contains incorrect information, in this case whatever wiki looked at, I really want to do my best to correct it. Obviously I wasn't all that dedicated as I didn't really explain my edits, instead I just kind of knew that they could be verified by the G.E.C.K. and kind of hoped my edits would be checked with the G.E.C.K.. On the other hand though, if they don't attempt to verify me edits, which I'm guessing at by what was said on my talk page, and they just block me instead, then I guess they'd just continue on with massively incorrect information, which is very disappointing that people posting information about Fallout 3 since they're not bothering to see if what they have hold up. 69.125.134.190 02:50, June 29, 2013 (UTC)

I'll try putting something on my talk page there. Thanks for the heads up. 69.125.134.190 03:03, June 29, 2013 (UTC)

Stats Forum

I got everything explained to me from earlier, so sorry about all that. Anyway, I know you kind of know how to use the G.E.C.K. and I just want a couple ideas from people with the G.E.C.K. on how to go about dealing with the issue I brought up on this forum: (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:FO3_and_New_Vegas_Character_Stats?t=20130628161107) Anything you have to say would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 69.125.134.190 05:42, June 29, 2013 (UTC)

Well... The bug was in the original game. It's Bioware who should have fixed it. Blaming GOG is a bit unfair. -- pecoes 18:22, July 02, 2013 (UTC)
I don't recall the details, but the error had something to do with blindly assuming that certain events occurred in a certain order. There were theories that certain sound card drivers cause that millisecond of delay that throws the game off-balance. I don't know if those rumors are true, but having seen that particular bit of Bioware's script code myself, I'm baffled that it does work flawlessly on so many machines. -- pecoes 19:04, July 02, 2013 (UTC)

This isn't about you. Stop acting so god damn proud. I see no reason why telling people that you have other accounts could do any damage, either interwiki or outeriwki, unless you intend to do something bad with that account. Sorry if that offends you but most people don't feel the need to cover stuff up unless they're doing something bad.
JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:38, July 2, 2013 (UTC)

Did I say "you can't possibly be using them for anything good"? No. I said unless you're not using them for anything bad I fail to see how telling people about them would hurt you or wiki relations. If I'm not allowed to put words in your mouth then why can you do so to me? I think you know as well as I do that "secret police" has the implys nazis more than anything else. End of the day, if you have a second account and don't tell people who it is, I think you must have something to hide. I don't care if it;s you or some nobody. Tenure

Does an admin that hasn't made a main page edit in five months qualify as satisfying themselves with projects until Fallout 4? I think the time to see who's qualified could be now. Many admins have been consistent, but not all, and a review would determine who really hasn't been consistent. Those who have done well should have no worries. 69.125.134.190

Yep. I just picked a random admin, and it turns out he/she has been surviving off of forums, talk pages, and blogs for almost all of 2013 so far. After mid February, no more main page edits. 69.125.134.190 03:10, July 9, 2013 (UTC)
Found another one who hasn't made a main page edit in three months and another who has made a little over fifty main page edits in all of 2013. 69.125.134.190 03:16, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

200 mainspace edits

Sorry for eavesdropping, Leon, but I read your conversation with 69.125. The old admins who only had ca 200 edits and the like were actually administrators who left shortly after the wiki moved to Wikia after leaving Duck and Cover, so I'll bet the brunt of their edits were there. Just a quick FYI, if anything. Hugs MadeMan2 "Say 'ello to my little friend!"

Ah. I see. Well, he really didn't have a reason to remove their rights, in case they turned up again, and all. Different attitudes on that back in the day. Hugs MadeMan2 "Say 'ello to my little friend!"

Blog Comments

So I can't express myself? What if I made a blog on the subject of how I;m sick of all that stuff myself? Would I still get banned for "flame baiting"? JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:12, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

Also: "with the intent of provoking an angry response" well seeing as that was not my intention, I clearly wasn;t flame baiting. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:14, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't looking for a negative response. Thus it wasnt flame baiting. Thus this whole convo is pointless. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:15, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

And even though it isn't about the blog directly my comment is about how I feel about that whole blog topic. So I see nothing wrong. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:16, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

Except for thet fact it wasn't. Because I legitimately feel that people get way too OTT about the Enclave. It wasn't the friendliest opening in the world, but I'm not flame baiting, seeing as I didn't write that to get a reaction I wrote that to EXPRESS MY REACTION. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:18, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

End Boss

I'm not doing that much for giggles and grins here and this isn't an exception. Didn't think it gave the uniquely named weapon enough credit. "end boss" decap somehow doesn't sound enough here. Also considered it sort of a title I think, like the example you gave. Not sure. The capitalization will probably always be a topic of controversy. You can change it back I suppose but then also do the knife. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:13, July 10, 2013 (UTC)

No one can please every one. All I have asked for is that he not abuse my accout with his unsolicited advice. This has nothing to do with his member statious. It all about his condescending attitude and the fact I do not believe I should be required to answear his mail. I am not speaking down to him. I think I know the image you mean. It is just a cool screen shot that I would gladly share with the world.

I don't see a problem. I did some highlights to make the image pop a wee bit from the dark original but I can not really claim it as my art.

It's a screen shot.

Unless they are useing my name or otherwise pretending to be me I would not worry.

First and fore most I thank you for be'n a great lookout.

2nd unless they mean to do harm by impersonating be in a negative way they should be welcomed to that screen shot.

  • I'd accually find it flattering that folks like my game character. " Hes just soo damn purdy " ~;D
  • If the image user means no harm I am O.K. with it.
  • Is there a way we can tell them to rock on & have fun with it ?

Lastly I do thank you again.

If it had been my original art work or if the user was stealing my identity there might have been a real issue,

so thank you Brother !

Two are identified as bosses. One as miniboss. The Springvale boss is the confirmed leader. 69.125.134.190 19:57, July 15, 2013 (UTC)
You confired that keys cannot be dropped. You made up that no more than one key can be added. Check FO3. 69.125.134.190 19:58, July 15, 2013 (UTC)
All 3 are listed as bosses in the G.E.C.K. 69.125.134.190 20:00, July 15, 2013 (UTC)
The burden of proof lies on me. I'll get a screenshot. 69.125.134.190 20:01, July 15, 2013 (UTC)
Sorry. I'm being rude, and I apologize. The raiders are listed as "SpringvaleElemBoss", "SpringvaleElemMiniBoss", and "BethRuinsLvlRaiderBoss". We know that the first is a leader based on notes; however we do not know if the Bethesda one is. Sorry about the key edit summary. Uncalled for. I'll have a screenshot of multiple keys in a second. 69.125.134.190 20:06, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not insulted it's just that I test 99% of everything I put in, including the multiple keys note, so I'm rather quick to immediately reverting edits without really explaining. I suppose we should rename the Bethesda raider page to "boss" instead if "leader", as we aren't really sure if he/she is the leader. 69.l25 (talk) 20:17, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

I can test this, but I think it may be that the key needs to be labeled as a quest item in order for multiple copies to be obtained. I'll check very quickly. 69.l25 (talk) 20:21, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

Scratch that. Looks like that isn't the case. 69.l25 (talk) 20:22, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

I renamed the Bethesda raider page to say "boss" because that's what the G.E.C.K. says, and we don't know if he/she is the leader. As for the key, did you try checking Fallout 3? The easiest way to check would be to go to Paradise Falls and get two Paradise Falls box keys. One from Forty and one from Eulogy Jones' desk. 69.125.134.190 20:41, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

I can check New Vegas myself and just see if I can get multiple copies of a key. Sorry to keep switching between anon and account. 69.l25 (talk) 20:48, July 15, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the offer, but I'm actually not going to be editing for quite a while as I'm not going to have the time, but there's always next year. Still, a G.E.C.K. tutorial would be a great idea seeing as it would be a solid way to get people more familiar with how to get info from the G.E.C.K. for pages or just for their own enjoyment. I hope you can find someone who can help with it. 69.l25 (talk) 01:19, July 17, 2013 (UTC)

News from the Front

Turns out the issues I was having with New Vegas' installation were fixed by re-installing Steam. I'm going to fiddle with it and see if it works tomorrow but I might be able to carry on with where I left off in terms of reviewing mods. And if I pick up Fallout 3 in this sale eventually that might be even better. Especially so now that I have 6 weeks of spare time. I'll have a play tomorrow and get back to you, if this is something we can still continue with of course. --DragonBorn96Talk 22:07, July 19, 2013 (UTC)

OMG

This never should have happened. He created content on the article space by mistake yesterday and I moved it to his userpage. That must have surprised him already. Then he copied it to and removed it again from his talkpage and probably became more confused (being a new user) when he got that message from Richie. So ok, he removed everything but I don't believe it was bad faith, just inexperience and confusion. If he had just placed the content directly on his userpage nothing would have happened in the first place. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:13, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I did think about that before I overturned your ban, what you call going "over your head" and even tried to remember if I had done that before. I can't remember it, so it would be a first time as I recall. I looked at the situation and it was such a minor incident (1-day ban) I thought it would be ok. I also personally felt involved, because it all started when I moved the page to his userpage and he started fiddling with it. I wanted to make things right and judged that was warranted in this particular case. I won't make a habit of it, ok? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:13, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

The drink has the same withdrawal effect as alcohol, and its "Equip Type" is "Chems". Not sure what "Equip Type" means, but this drink is different from alcoholic beverages which all have the Equip Type of "Alcohol". Hope that helps. 69.l25 (talk) 01:22, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

I'm the one who made the spelling mistake that he corrected with an "insulting" edit summary, and I'm not the least bit offended. I agree that it was inappropriate, but he was only correcting something. And, one week? That's a little much for just an edit summary. He's had some small, but decent, additions to the wiki recently. I know you might just say he was insulting in the past which should be taken into consideration, but can't we get another admin's opinion on this? 69.125.134.190 05:48, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

I just reviewed the ban. The way this was handled on both ends was a little extreme. While it may be insulting to some to see the edit summary with the word "retard" in it, it may not be to others. As for the name calling, it came from both sides. He rope started you Leon and you went with it. I reduced the block to 3 days and inserted the correct block information in the log. If you have any questions, let me know.--Kingclyde (talk) 06:56, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Werewolfhell

Why was his "unjust" block removed? He received a permablock for a good reason. What evidence do you have and how was it determined that it should be removed?--Kingclyde (talk) 07:01, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Nitty's ban wasn't in retaliation for off-site issues. He was indeed spamming his site to ours on talkpages and everywhere else he could find to. He was rude to damn near everyone and deserved the ban. I remember dealing with removing his spam here and there. Werewolfhell set up an "Fallout Eleventy Wiki" and was actively recruiting people from this site, taking information without attributing it to the Vault. He was then commencing to slander Porter, Ausir and others. Itachou was one of his friends that helped him if I remember correctly, but in the end it was decided that he was to get a indefinite ban. First it was a year and then it was bumped to indefinite as per Ausir and Porter. I reblocked him as there is no evidence nor need to have him unblocked.--Kingclyde (talk) 07:19, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

From Catherine's Talk Page

"Here is a verbatim copy-paste of my PM exchange with Matt Grandstaff (handle "GStaff") on the official BSF concerning Catherine...

ME: There seems to be a point of contention on Fallout Wiki wiki over the race of Catherine AKA Mom in FO3. Her race is defined as African American, but it is believed that it is so to get an improved color contrast in a scene with very heavy imagespace modification. So time for another "Fawkes Is Male" type declaration... Is Catherine's race African-American, or is it intended to be nebulous?

GSTAFF: I can ask...but does it really matter?

ME: I's mainly to cease the constant back-and-forth editing of that article. There seems to be a propensity to consider behind-the-scenes workings accidentally discovered as official on that wiki (like "The Brain" in Point Lookout).

GSTAFF: I did some checking...sorry, there's not a defined race for that character."

(This was not me asking.) 69.l25 (talk) 02:21, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

Well, would you be in favor in just leaving her race as "African American"? Judging by her talk page, there's been a lot of debate over her race and what is and is not cannon about her, and listing her as African American from a technical standpoint is the best way of providing the most information about her without having to reopen the debate over what her cannon race is. 69.l25 (talk) 02:32, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

I've been thinking about the objections against listing Catherine's race, and I'm really not sure if they're even valid complaints. We take data from the G.E.C.K. like race as cannon unless it is contradicted by a developer or a source like that, and there's really no evidence that that quote came from GStaff. Anyone could have written it. The other arguments are that it's "genetically impossible" or "she isn't seen in-game", but a game where you can shoot mutants with laser weapons several times in the head without them dying isn't exactly grounded in reality. You also do see her legs and an image of her in New Vegas. Why don't we just leave it with African American until someone can get solid confirmation that she isn't necessarily that race? 69.125.134.190 03:15, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

I went ahead and changed it to "African American" alone. I'm not too sure about the note though. It's not like we need confirmation for every character's race in the game. We take what the G.E.C.K. says as cannon. The G.E.C.K. says she's black. If someone's going to say that she isn't, then they'll need a solid reason to object (probably something from a developer in this case). Untill then, we should just leave her as African American without the note. 69.125.134.190 03:28, August 8, 2013 (UTC)

Apprentice stuff

Hey Leon! Long time no talk. I just wanted to let you know that I've been reading all (or at least most) of your recent Apprentice entries in your user blog, and I can't help but come to your TP and commend you on them. The amount of creativity, originality, and staggeringly high-quality prose is simply astounding. In addition, the amount of detail and coverage is really quite impressive. If you are interested, I would love to be your "copy-editor" in checking for minor conventions oversights and other miscellaneous fixes to 1. help to boost the already excellent quality of the entries, and 2. allow you to focus more on content and prose than fastidious aspects of the written English. What do you say? --Skire (talk) 03:43, August 9, 2013 (UTC)

I'm getting ready to go through them now. Would you prefer British or American English? --Skire (talk) 22:44, August 9, 2013 (UTC)
Roger that. As a link tip for the future, you can link your other blogs like so: [[User_blog:GarouxBloodline/Urchin|Urchin]], instead of employing the full URL link. And is there a Wild Wasteland in your FO3? (Or is it part of the Verisimilitude add-on?) I'll be continuing to go through your work over the days, and I'm always waiting to read about the next character, location, or whatever you may have in store! --Skire (talk) 00:37, August 10, 2013 (UTC)
I see. I can leave the links as is then, it doesn't really matter when not in source mode. And if today is the deadline then I'll keep going for now, and start with your latest posted entries. --Skire (talk) 00:42, August 10, 2013 (UTC)
So I've done around half a dozen of your entries so far and I think it's about time for me to crash (had to get up pretty early today). I really wish I had more time and didn't only think of this two days before the deadline! I'll be sure to start earlier for the next challenge ;) And one more thing: as I was reading through these entries again, particularly pages like Hell's Descent, I really couldn't ignore the artistic poignancy that your writings emit... Really good job, and I wish you best of luck! --Skire (talk) 01:44, August 10, 2013 (UTC)

I'm glad you realize I'm not attacking you or anything. I really just find damseling a character to be cliché and unimaginative, which just doesn't fit well with your unique and well-crafted story. And there's already a damsel in another one of the entries which just shows how common it is. It can work well, though. You just have to play around with a little. 69.125.134.190 01:51, August 10, 2013 (UTC)

Colour Schemes

The solution Czechout and I found for the Tardis doesn't translate well to other wikis. If you're game for an experiment we can try something else though. You would have to alter your wiki's design via Special:ThemeDesigner, but instead of saving the new design, open the JavaScript console and type in:

console.log(JSON.stringify(window.themeSettings));

and then copypaste the result on my talk page. It should look more or less like this:

{"color-body":"#1a1a1a","color-page":"#000000","color-buttons":"#400f30","color-links":"#c4d167","color-header":"#c99889","background-image":"","background-align":"center","background-fixed":"false","background-tiled":"false","page-opacity":"100","theme":"custom","wordmark-text":"Pecoes Wiki","wordmark-color":"#006CB0","wordmark-font":"default","wordmark-font-size":"medium","wordmark-image-url":"","wordmark-image-name":"","wordmark-type":"text","banner-image-url":"","banner-image-name":"","background-image-name":"","background-image-revision":"false","wikiName":"pecoes","wikiDomain":"pecoes","wikiLang":"en","wikiDescription":"This is a sandbox wiki where I can carry out technical experiments without bothering anybody and polluting my main wikis' wiki activity page.","favicon-image-name":"Favicon.ico","favicon-image-url":"http://images.wikia.com/pecoes/images/6/64/Favicon.ico"}

(I don't have access to Special:ThemeDesigner on this wiki, so the values above come from my test wiki - which is why they look quite different from the values you will see.)

I have to warn you though: At the moment I'm rather busy, so it may take a while or two before I get back to you with the new stylesheet... :(

Words this Wiki's spellchecker doesn't recognize

Greetings - We have seen words underlined in red as misspellings on this and other Wiki's that were spelled correctly according to our dictionary. We usually try to find another word with the same meaning (Roget's is a big help) that the spellchecker OK's unless the word is spelled that way in game or is part of a quote.

Our question is - Are such words (and misspelled words) also not recognized by many translation programs and therefore passed on as is, the way things like NCR are? If so, we think it would make such changes a higher priority. ThanksDarthOrc (talk) 07:02, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

Our question was do you know if this has a bad effect on translation programs, leaving the non-English speaker with a meaningless (to them) word. (On words with British spelling, we change them to American as this Wiki stipulates American spelling, that is not the issue.)DarthOrc (talk) 02:58, August 29, 2013 (UTC)

We are asking if you know how tolerant translation programs are of variant spellings. We expect some leeway may exist for the more common ones, (colour vs color, etc.) but aren't sure. We hope you know more or know someone who does. (We expect that grossly misspelled words won't be translated or, even worse, may be translated into a different meaning.) Anon block

Hej Leon! I was wondering, is it possible that the anon adding that false information get it from fan fiction and did not realise that we do not tolerate adding of fan-created material in the article namespace? There's no doubt his information is untrue, but I think we should consider his intentions, which may after all be benign. If he were warned about such a thing and continued to post his information, then a ban would surely be reasonable. I'll let you handle it since you were the on-site admin, but it's just something that crossed my mind. Please let me know what you think. --Skire (talk) 22:56, September 17, 2013 (UTC)

Loose Cannon

I think that's a large part of my problem with this though: one of the advantages I find with a wiki is that we don't have to have absolute proof on everything, just a preponderance of evidence. Can we find absolute proof that the developers meant to include the weapon in the Loose Cannon perk list? No, not unless J.E. Sawyer is being particularly chatty on formspring again. But there's so many other things that point to it being unintentional it's not hard to come to that conclusion. If that's not enough to get something classified as a bug then... well then that's maddening. It's going to suck a lot of the fun out of editing the wiki for me. I'm not saying I'm going to be pouty, take my ball and go home, that kind of thing. All I'm saying is that if this is indeed where things are going in the scope of bugs, if bugs without absolute proof start getting stripped, then it's gonna irritate me when I see it happening. Most likely at that point I'll stop editing for the day and go do something calming instead. What can I say? Bugs are a passion for me. It's kind of my thing. -- Yukichigai (talk) 03:21, September 25, 2013 (UTC)

(forwarding) I restored Mara's edit to throwing knife spear. Left my reason on User:Yukichigai. I wouldn't consider it a bug. It's supposed to not be affected if it's not in the formlist. But it does make an interesting note. Probably an oversight by the developers. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 11:35, September 25, 2013 (UTC)

Gallows Humor

Many quests in the Fallout Universe, most notably in 3 and New Vegas, don't strictly adhere to the content of the quest. Isn't this obvious? Why on earth would it be called Gallows Humor if not referring to the prhase? --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:22, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Then tell me, why on earth would they name this quest Gallows Humor? It has nothing do with the quest, but the name is the matter at hand. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:25, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I can see where you're coming from, but I must say I can't agree with that. Certainly the quest itself has nothing to do with actual gallows humour, but nonetheless the quest name is derived directly from that term. If something as apparent as this qualifies as speculation, then countless other entries that fall under the same circumstances will meet deletion as well... --Skire (talk) 22:26, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

The quest's name is derived directly from the term? Can you cite where you're getting that? 68.197.229.108 22:27, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
No, I wasn't responding to Garoux. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear about that. 68.197.229.108 22:32, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I'm going to have to be truthful and say that you are overreacting. This is something that is trivial, yet obvious. We are not making outlandish claims. You're just going to override Danny, Chad, and myself because of this? --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:30, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I just can't see them naming something, "Gallows Humor" out of the blue and not be referring to the phrase. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:33, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
We all do Leon, I just feel that this is an exception (There are and can be exceptions, as you said, and we all know this). There's no need to question our integrity by saying, "I take professionalism very seriously." --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:35, September 27, 2013 (UTC)
If 4 administrators think that something concerning the name of an unmarked quest is true, I see no reason that this bit is bogging down the quality of our articles. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 22:36, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Understood, but it doesn't change the fact that the name is based on that term. Relevancy to the corresponding in-game content is not a criterion for inclusion of information in "behind the scenes" sections, only direct textual correlation is. --Skire (talk) 22:53, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

It's written in our policy. FW:C's clause on behind the scenes information states, "Behind the scenes" information in the form of cultural references is acceptable page content only when there are direct visual or textual correlations." In this situation, there would be textual correlation. Also, the developers did not name the quest "Gallows Humor" for no reason. I have already agreed with you on the notion that the quest itself has nothing to do with the definition of the term. Notwithstanding, the name is clearly based on the term "gallows humour," and the factual part is they match exactly. I don't believe this is speculation; more or less, I would cite Cartesian common sense here. --Skire (talk) 23:10, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

The Bozar (Fallout 2), the M60 (Fallout 2) and others, although they are only found in Fallout 2, are named in that manner. Do you wish to delete those pages also? Alatari (talk) 20:36, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

Put in 100 edits today and was signing off as I got your message. I can help later in the week. Take care. Alatari (talk) 20:40, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

While I'm thinking of it. The What Links Here doesn't seem to work on the deleted page so how about a temporary FN FAL (Fallout 2) page redirecting back to FN FAL to get an accurate What Links Here list? Alatari (talk) 20:46, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

Redirects

FMJ and Fo1, Fo2, Fo3 are redirects that should stay. We want to make it easy for people to find pages and they use abbreviations plenty, especially with important pages like the game pages. FMJ is also a very common one which is often used and should stay. Don't delete those kind of redirects. Alatari still needs to get the hang of it a bit too. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:47, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

I wasn't sure of how far Jspoelstra wanted to go. For me, I 'd rather type in the search bar FMJ or FEV (happened to be an example of how to create a redirect in help anyway) and get a hit. I'll trust my gut more on what would I want to search on. Alatari (talk) 16:43, October 8, 2013 (UTC)
I'm interested in high numbers, but seeing a higher page count through means of redirects isn't one of them. In the past few weeks I've already deleted a few hundred redirects to demonstrate that. These redirects don't count for our article page count, so it doesn't matter in that area. Redirects that have a good chance to be entered in a search bar should stay, it's something that needs to be looked at for each entry. The obvious ones are like I just did solving the FEV Experiment Disk to FEV experiment disk. (upper to lowercap). Others can be trickier and require some insight/game knowledge, like Fo2, FMJ or even FLC. All these have a good chance to be entered (f.e. I know FLC appears on the sign of the Friendly Lending Company building so I would let that one stay. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:02, October 7, 2013 (UTC)
These kind of pages are hardly read and/or used by teenagers if you ask me. Redirects are for ease of finding pages. If they have some purpose they can stay and hurt no one. And with the new search box things should even go smoother. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:11, October 7, 2013 (UTC)

Color me blind

Can you tell me exactly what styling elements the switcher will alter? And go ahead and get technical. I need to know if it's going to change css things like table/infobox classes, background image, anything else. If it's only going to change theme designer things like the banner color and article background color, that's gonna really limit us, as we'll have to find stuff that looks good with the existing background image and table/infobox colors. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:11, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

I've been playing around with a few schemes, but I don't like anything so far because when I get some nice header/background/menu colors that go with some nice images I have, they look like shit with the green infoboxes/tables. This switcher is not gonna be able to overwrite some of the styling on those infobox/table css classes? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 00:45, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Ritual Site Grammar

Which part of the edit specifically? 68.197.229.108 10:32, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

"the Krivbeknih, a very dark and mysterious tome"
This part? It's not an independent clause; there's no verb. 68.197.229.108 10:36, October 16, 2013 (UTC)
In that case, yes. That's not really an exception to the rule, as a comma can't come between independent clauses, and there's nothing really special about that sentence. But you wouldn't have a semicolon before this appositive. 68.197.229.108 10:41, October 16, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, in your sentence, a semicolon is correct, but in this case the semicolon would leave "a very dark and mysterious tome" on its own, which is not an independent clause. There's no verb in that phrase.
"the Krivbeknih, a very dark and mysterious tome" does not contain a comma splice, as the comma is punctuating the appositive, which is not a complete sentence on its own. 68.197.229.108 10:50, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Apprentice

Hey Leon. I was just about to head out, so I'll take a more thorough look at it later. However, I wanted to leave you something, so these are the first few things that stood out to me, or that I'm seeking clarification on:

I. Why, after over two-and-a-half centuries' time, would people still be interested in drilling oil? Even with considerable technological advances in the years preceding the beginning of the game, there would be limited use for petroleum, which still has to be processed into products like gasoline, kerosene, etc. Furthermore, how would anyone have the technology to drill oil? They would either have to build new structures/machines, or have the capability to restore the old ones already present.

II. What exactly happened to the border between Alaska and Canada? Why do we need land bridges to cross into Alaska? And what's the reason behind the abnormal geological activity? There's no fault line or anything between Alaska and Canada.

III. A dangerous ecosystem developing from nuclear fallout doesn't exactly qualify as "relatively little impact," right? Also, were there nuclear detonations on the islands themselves? It may be wise to look more into the nature of endemic species on the Aleutian Islands and how they may be affected by nuclear fallout. You could also talk about their relation with the introduced species of the region. As a suggestion, maybe you could do something with Amchitka - an actual nuclear test site (with three thermonuclear tests) in the Aleutian Islands.

IV. Landmass that had been recently created by a volcanic eruption would most likely be quite boring to explore, considering the nature of its terrain. If the volcano erupted a long before the game begins, then it can be argued that primary succession has led to a viable ecosystem.

As additional comments, I'd like to point out that this work has a ton of potential to me. What I wrote above I'm sure you have answers for, but they're just some things that people might wonder about (or maybe not lol). I want to ask you if it is your intention to add in such faction summaries, as they go off too far from just their relation to the Alaskan Rift, in my opinion. Do you plan to extend on each? If so, then I'd suggest we abridge the faction summaries to only mentioning their relation to the location. Finally, I'm excited to hear what you'll do with this Zhu Bajie. I know a reference when I see one ;)

I'm very excited to hear about your new work, and it's always a pleasure to read through them. Hopefully you can find something useful from my critique/comments. --Skire (talk) 19:41, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Absolutely. Whenever you have 'em ready just let me know. Those are some satisfying answers, and we both know that video game science can never be 100% true to real life. From what I know, I don't think that even extensive drilling would cause such geological phenomena, but I'm no expert really. As I said before, I'm excited for what's next. --Skire (talk) 23:52, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Leon, I checked the GECK (Addiction FAN) and I see no addiction for fire ant nectar. So Mr01 was right as far as I can see. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:18, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

Do you have a mod installed or something? That's not a normal PipBoy look. I've tried it and it's not addictive. Taken 50, nothing happening. I've also tried a certified addictive food, ant nectar, and that's giving a totally different result. After 5 or so you get your first Day Tripper achievement and 5 more the screen tells you're addicted and becomes red. Maybe it's your mod that's the problem. Fire ant nectar is not addictive. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:11, October 21, 2013 (UTC)
According to the GECK, fire ant nectar has no addition. The spell you referenced, 0006dc6e, is just for regular ant nectar. 69.l25 (talk) 22:21, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

You may want to crack open FNVEdit and check out which of your mods made changes to Fire Ant Nectar. Just putting that out there.Mr01 (talk) 01:00, October 22, 2013 (UTC)

Plasma rifle confusion

"The plasma rifles were standard to begin with..." - Ant2242

No, they were not. The original models created for the army were bulky and required specialized training. The model seen in Fallout were from a project undertaken by a joint effort initiated by the Enclave within Poseidon Energy, until the project was canceled and the plans were later stolen. - GarouxBloodline

The P94s were manufactured standard by Winchester. Poseidon Energy were working on project SIMILE which was cancelled. The technology was stolen by Carl Rook, (the Vice President)'s contacts and given to his R&D team/department. To continue developing the Q series prototype Urban plasma rifles.

"...he RobCo Urban plasma rifle is the next generation ergonomically and technologically..." - Ant2242

It was originally meant to be Enclave exclusive. If it weren't for REPCONN stealing the plans, they would have never become the standardized model. - GarouxBloodline

Enclave exclusive in FO3, no. Remember A3-21's plasma rifle? "Enclave plasma rifle" was the in-game name, these names are not necessarily accurate names. Just look at the metro stations labeling. Naming the station and then giving it a completely different location name in the Pip-Boy. Thank you Bethesda!{being facetious}

"No it was a military prototype under contract from RobCo Industries to the Department of Defense, using stolen technology from Poseidon Energy." - Ant2242

Army, specifically, and only when REPCONN was in charge. After REPCONN was taken over by RobCo, the commission was exchanged, which is why the Army was still using laser technology, and the Enclave had massive reserves. The Enclave considered plasma technology a closely held secret, and as a result, that technology was almost exclusive to them, and them only. Hell, they were willing to kill people just to cover up their plasma pistol prototype. - GarouxBloodline

Not exactly Winchester had developed the P94. it was so famous it was on the cover of the Future Weapons Today magazine.
Future Weapons Today
The Armed Forces liked to use the laser weaponry more because the tech was more ergonomically, productivity, and utility developed at the time (circa 2060-70s).

"The Enclave had massive reserves..."

They had access to the tech and pre-war stockpiles, yes.

"The Enclave considered plasma technology a closely held secret... "para" MPLX Novasurge "para".

Yes, they considered their secrets a high priority. Not that the tech was theirs alone.

--Ant2242 (talk) 23:19, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

The only dealings with RobCo the Enclave had was the industrial espionage by Poseidon Energy, their front.

As for the "standard plasma rifle", the P94s weren't made individually, they were made on a Winchester assembly line(s). There's no evidence for this weapon being developed by the Enclave.

However the Enclave most likely created the base plasma weapons technology, the Novasurge project.--Ant2242 (talk) 01:53, October 23, 2013 (UTC) Their research lead to the entire weapons field. Where is the reference for its pre-war "wide-spread usage"?--Ant2242 (talk) 05:57, October 23, 2013 (UTC)

Funny thing Leon... I spoke with other people in chat that day I first critiqued ya in an attempt to encourage them to critique the final challengers' entries but then Jasper voiced a compelling argument that the raw material of each challenger is what should get judged.

Much in the same way the games are (usually) story-boarded, customer feedback doesn't get received until -after- it is released. So with that in mind, I'm afraid I'm going to abstain unless you absolutely insist.

Snow Blind

This was quite an interesting and multi-faceted quest. I've got a few things that I think need some revision, clarification, etc.:

  • It would seem that three rather distinct (but still interconnected) quests should have their own names, rather than falling under one quest. Due to the restrictions of Apprentice, however, I can understand.
  • Regarding the set-up of the human path: no fresh water? On an iceberg?! It would be highly unlikely that someone should pass out due to dehydration in such an environment. Where there is ice, drinkable water can be found.
  • Why exactly is the ghoul protagonist named the Outcast? It is briefly mentioned that he is an outcast even amongst ghouls, but why? He being an outcast must be significant enough that he is named after it.
  • "Promising salvation as a visage of their savior" - can you clarify this sentence a bit?
  • Is killing the scientists really necessary? The Hubologists weren't portrayed as especially violent or bloodthirsty... Of course, should this be a splinter group, then I suppose it's fine.
  • Regarding necrosis: is this process of cell death still ongoing? When did the Outcast start to become a ghoul?
  • What's a wendigo? If it's a planned page, then please ignore this.
  • The mention of the bobblehead, and specifically that it doesn't offer any benefits, seems quite random and misplaced, especially in the context of a quest article.
  • Is Jotunnheim related to the Jötunns? If they named the city as such, shouldn't it be of very high importance to them? Is it?
  • Since the names don't match, could you elaborate a bit on the 'behind the scenes'?

Also:

  • I like your Norse mythology references, as well as the WoW reference. You seem to have taken a more fantastical approach in making your game, which is certainly interesting.

I hope this can be of some help. I'll get back to you as I go through the others. --Skire (talk) 22:29, October 25, 2013 (UTC)

Excellent, I'm glad to help. Sorry I seemed to forget about that bit of introducing the wendigo XD And as for the WoW reference, I was referring to "Tuk'hariq." --Skire (talk) 01:28, October 26, 2013 (UTC)

Hello Leon, It's Gunslinger here...I know we had a rough spot here a while back and it was not pleasant on anyone's side. Things were said, people were hurt, and I left on bad terms. Thanks for being so understanding =) I made some minor changes and added an infobox, which I think makes it look more similar to the pages we have on actual games. The downside if your image won't be as big. Feel free to add information into the parameters or just scrap the idea if you want, whatever works. I'd suggest reducing the reading to as little as possible. People today don't want to read, and I think a pitch document should cater to that, no? --Skire (talk) 02:17, October 30, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Chat Bans

Thank you for snooping, actually. I had a feeling someone would stumble across that message one way or another.

My issue is this: If bans were a case by case basis, then why was Saint perma'd after a ban from Victor? Clearly in that case a permaban was not warranted and (correct me if I'm wrong) that ban was his fourth ban after the 'guidelines' were put in place? Clearly these guidelines are not being used as such and the fact that a good-natured and productive editor was banned because of them shows me that the rules need changing.

Personally, I don't like the idea of chat mods and moderators having the ability to permaban. Even if they retain that power, we shouldn't be treating a permanent ban so lightly. I think that permanent bans should be in the hands of either A) administrators or B) just bureaucrats. As it currently stands, I see the chat mods being largely unmonitored in their dealings with people and I know I have personally witnessed unprofessional conduct from a majority of them, but that isn't the issue at hand. We treat chat too much like a separate entity and it is not. DB's comments about 'consensus from the right group of people' and 'consulting those who are most affected' is the complete wrong way of looking at things.

Bottom line is that the guidelines should go. There shouldn't be a mention of them anywhere. Mods were progressive in their discipline before they were put in place and they will be when they're gone, but adhering to them like set-in-stone rules like they've been doing lately is not serving the wiki properly. Arbitrary Header

Just to make things clear, the reason why I wanted specific examples is because many people make small edits that may or may not hold any significant weight. I was asking for large contributions to demonstrate ongoing dedication, but after reviewing his special contributions it's clear that he is a major source for our Images. It's also clear that he made these type of edits before and after the ban, indicating dedication despite his wrongful ban. His behavior, both towards me and others, was good especially considering the criticism and opposition. He's a good person and a good editor, and I was mislead by the vague nature of the forum. ---bleep196- (talk) 05:43, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

Pain

I feel like I should explain this here, so it doesn't get eaten by the forum. I don't feel that the fact that Pain is allowed to request an unban to be favouritism, as you said that is well within the rules (although you can't be blamed for thinking that, what I originally wrote was under the idea that Js had suggested this unban, not Pain.) instead, I think a lot of the people agreeing to let him back are doing so out of friendship and, because they like him, are not really acknowledging his previous chat behaviour. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Header color from Nukacola machine: #803831
  • Page color from floor tile: #F8F4EF
  • You could go with a much darker background on this one, and use white text. Haven't tried it though.

And:

  • UserGunnyVaultTech with:
  • Button color from "vault" text: #803831
