Claire L. Hudson
Hello. This is Doctor Claire Hudson, and if you're hearing this, it means you must have completed my work and inoculated yourself. The next step is to find out if our elite anti-Scorched unit, the Fire Breathers are still alive. You can find them at the Charleston fire department. The Fire Breathers need to know the vaccine is ready. If they didn't make it, then you're going to need their weapons to stay alive.”
Claire Hudson was the chief medical officer of the Responders. Part of the senior staff, she was charged with finding a solution to the Scorched Plague, using the facilities at AVR Medical Center, in a last-ditch attempt to protect the Responders from the corruption. Starting the project in July 2096, Hudson knew she was taking on a daunting task, but found no practical alternative to fighting this existential threat. After hooking up the Sympto-Matic, a type of Auto-Doc, to the system, she started analyzing hundreds of firsthand accounts, observations and poring over evidence related to the Plague's effect on the local wildlife. Her theory was that creatures most resilient to the Plague could allow her to synthesize antibodies that can render a human immune to its effects.
In the process, she had to put up with packs of scorched raiding the hospital, to which the only solution was hiding in the cupboard for nine straight hours. By September, she identified the three most resilient species - mole rats, wolves, and ghouls of the feral variety - and prepared an automated analysis program that would allow the Sympto-Matic to synthesize antibodies on the spot. Of course, nothing was as simple as that. The automation helped her advance the project at a terrific pace, but it also proved her undoing. The Sympto-Matic blew a fuse almost instantly when she tried to test it, while the deteriorating communications meant she couldn't get in touch with Jeff Nakamura to find replacement parts. Realizing that the Responders were at an end, she recorded automated messages for anyone who follows in her footsteps and left the AVR center on November 7th, to try and find the replacement parts - and atone for failing to provide a vaccine when her friends needed it the most.
Claire Hudson is mentioned only in Fallout 76.
