EnclaveNet is a sophisticated computer network used by the Enclave for communications and information storage.[1] The system was equipped with a common English parser, allowing users to formulate requests as simple sentences in plain English, instead of terminal commands.[2] The system could even correctly interpret barely legible requests by individuals of low intelligence[3] and slang expressions, thanks to an English slang dictionary.[4]

EnclaveNet was hooked into numerous Enclave databases, allowing even a user with limited privileges to obtain critical information: Inventory records, such as the number and location of Vertibird plans present at Navarro (including the number of items lost),[3] geographical maps with the precise coordinates of the Enclave headquarters,[5] detailed architectural files for Enclave bases,[6][7][8] and the transportation directory. It could cross-reference data on the fly as well: When 1,257 methods were returned for reaching the oil rig, the system automatically narrowed it down to two, accounting for available modes of transport and enacted legislation (Security act 9837-334-27A), along with precisely identifying the whereabouts of items necessary to restore disabled vehicles to full functionality.[9]

For all its sophistication, the system had very limited security measures, allowing anyone knowing the password to use it. EnclaveNet also didn't actually understand the output, and even ignorance betraying an intruder did not raise any alarms.[4] Any failed attempts at hacking would result in the system alerting the entire facility,[10] while any other alert state would initiate lockout.[11] On the other hand, talented hackers could bypass the login screen and manually initiate the welcome program, laying bare the full knowledge of the Enclave.[12]

EnclaveNet was limited to a select few locations running the latest in computer technology, such as Camp Navarro. The main computer complex housed a mainframe, an interface terminal, and holotape data storage units,[13] with a senior computer analyst on location to maintain the device.[14] In spite of its sophistication, Enclave regulations limited the use of the system to just trained personnel, due to its complexity and fragility. Any damage to the machine was grounds for summary execution,[15] and enlisted personnel were technically banned from even entering the room where the EnclaveNet terminal was located.[16]
