While ED-E is a companion, the player can detect enemies at an increased range. Additionally, enemies will appear on the player's compass and can be targeted in V.A.T.S. even when cloaked.— In-game description

Enhanced Sensors is a companion perk in Fallout: New Vegas and in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.

Requirements[]

Gaining ED-E (original) as a companion requires either:

Gaining ED-E (duplicate) as a companion is a mandatory part of the Lonesome Road quest-chain.

Effects[]

When ED-E is an active companion, the player character gains a significant boost to their detection radius, essentially the equivalent of having a Perception attribute of 10, as well as the ability to target cloaked enemies in V.A.T.S. such as nightkin.

Notes[]

  • The perk's effectiveness is limited indoors, particularly in sprawling, multi-story buildings like the REPCONN test site, since the inability to tell whether a target's elevation is above or below can prevent an accurate indication of their exact location. It will, however, give one a general idea of the numbers one will be facing. Outdoors, on the other hand, it can allow the player character to perceive and bypass particularly dangerous foes without drawing their attention.
  • It is possible to learn to identify some particularly dangerous enemies by their movement patterns. For example, seeing 4-6 red indicators closely grouped and moving erratically is almost certainly an indicator of nearby cazadores. Gauging the distance between the player character and an enemy is likewise possible to learn, simply by moving side to side; the faster an indicator slides along the compass bar, the closer an enemy is.
  • Combining the perk with the effects of Spotter via having both ED-E and Craig Boone as companions and equipping a powerful long-range weapon like a sniper rifle, the player character can effectively take out targets from much greater distances.
  • In addition to being able to target cloaked enemies, the perk also grants a 20-25% bonus to accuracy against cloaked targets while using V.A.T.S.; however, the bonus is lost when the target uncloaks.
