The mark of the Explorer is to search out new and interesting locations. With this Perk, you have a greater chance of finding special places or peoples.

Fallout description

Explorer is a perk in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game.

Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics[edit | edit source]

Increases the chance for finding special encounters. The exact functionality is unknown, so it's best avoided, unless playing for pure fun.

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas[edit | edit source]

Reveals all marked locations on the world map (they still need to be approached to be unlocked for fast travel). Locations in add-ons are revealed if they are loaded at the time the perk is taken. This perk will also not reveal markers that do not exist prior to certain scripted events, such as the Regulator HQ in Fallout 3 which will only appear on the map when the player has the Lawbringer perk, or Ranger Morales' corpse in Fallout: New Vegas, which will only be marked upon speaking to his wife.

Although the original guide claims this perk allows fast travel to all the locations, this is incorrect.verification overdue, remove

The two locations added to the main map by the Lonesome Road, namely Long 15 and Dry Wells, both appear when this perk is taken. However, they remain impossible to reach.

J.E. Sawyer's Fallout Role-Playing Game[edit | edit source]

The mark of the Explorer is to search out new and interesting locations. With this perk, the player has a better chance of finding special encounters. However, Sawyer had yet to decide on a mechanic for special encounters before he dropped the project.
