FIDO is a weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues.

Characteristics[]

Compared to the original K9000 cyberdog gun, FIDO does more damage per shot and has the same rate of fire as the unmodified K9000, thus having a higher damage-per-second (DPS) value than it but lower than the modified. It also does higher critical hit damage, costs slightly more AP, has higher spread, has the same weight and has a higher caps value than the unmodified, but lower than the modified. It also has an 85 Guns and 9 Strength requirement, compared to the original's 75 and 8, respectively.

In terms of appearance, the gun frame remains the same but with a slightly lighter coloring, the blue tubing including the brain cage now colored red, and the sticker on the front display now showing a snarling bulldog instead of a panting retriever dog.

Durability[]

FIDO can fire a total of about 2,495 standard rounds, the equivalent of 50 reloads, from full condition before breaking.

Location[]

The weapon cannot be found anywhere; instead, it must be crafted. This can only be accomplished once the requisite schematics are obtained from the X-8 research center. They are located next to the terminal in the kennels, which can be accessed after acquiring the key from the X-13 research facility, itself found in a security room off of the front lobby. After acquiring the schematics, creating FIDO requires at least one K9000 cyberdog gun, 75 Guns, and the use of a workbench.

Notes[]

  • FIDO is the only automatic weapon in the game to use .44 Magnum rounds.
  • The FIDO upgrade is best applied to an unmodified K9000 cyberdog gun, as using a K9000 to create the weapon will eliminate any and all mods the gun currently has.
  • Regardless of the condition of the K9000 used to make it, FIDO will spawn at 80% durability.
  • As a total of two K9000s can be obtained in the game, it is therefore possible to create two FIDOs.
  • Despite being chambered in .44 Magnum, FIDO will eject bottlenecked rifle casings when fired.

Behind the scenes[]

The weapon's name is a reference to a famous dog of the same name, for which "Fido" then became an archetypical term for dogs, originated from the Latin word fidus, meaning "faithful."
