The drone cannon is a weapon of alien origin which is added to Fallout 3 in the Mothership Zeta add-on.
Released on January 13, 2004, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel was the fourth video game to be set in the Fallout universe and the first to be made for video game consoles. The game chronicles the adventures of a Brotherhood of Steel initiate.

  +
Characteristics
Because of numerous inconsistencies with previous Fallout games, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is not considered part of the official Fallout canon, however some of its content could be used as "flavor" material.

  +
It is the removed arm cannon of a guardian drone. It fires a ball of energy that acts as a grenade, bouncing and then exploding after a period of about 3 seconds. The projectile has the ability to move buses and cars before exploding.
  +
This weapon is hard to use at first, but once you understand its operation, it becomes an extremely devastating weapon.

  +
A direct hit from the ball of energy will also deal a high amount of damage, and hitting a target's middle to upper body will usually result in the ball dropping straight down before exploding, making it a good way to hit specific targets with the explosion.
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is not to be confused with the similarly named Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, released in 2001.

  +
When fired into water, the projectile will continue normally, bouncing off any obstructions under the water. It will explode normally like other explosives.
Story
FOBOS

Setting
The game takes place in Carbon, Texas in the year 2208. The player chooses to control one of three initial characters: Cain, Cyrus, or Nadia, all of whom have pledged their services to the Brotherhood of Steel and have become Initiates.

Chapter One
+
Durability
  +
The drone cannon can successfully fire about 417 times from full condition before breaking.
Brotherhood members have gone missing in Carbon, and the chosen initiate is tasked with searching for the paladins, starting with the nearby town. Armed thugs loiter in town, and are trying their best to make kindling of the furniture in the bar. The bartender is grateful if the Initiate breaks a few of them in return, and steers the Initiate in the direction of the shifty mayor of this lawless town.

  +
Variants
The mayor might be due some choice words from the electorate for the state of his town; one in particular will give the player a discount as a reward for telling off the mayor. Even this outburst won't make the mayor reveal the location of the missing paladins. He insists the player clear out an infestation of radscorpions in the nearby warehouse.

  +
* Drone cannon Ex-B - it has increased range over the drone cannon, and the projectiles fired from it explode on impact while still arcing, unlike the bouncy drone cannon shot.

  +
Comparison
The Initiate makes collections: of the scorpion tails the barkeep is interested in buying, and whatever contents of the warehouse aren't nailed down. Giant, radioactive, and the more common mutated scorpions are all rendered lifeless, and the Initiate returns to the mayor, to the news that the missing paladins headed off in the direction of a massive crater outside of town.

Following the trail to the bottom, the Initiate finds that the mayor isn't one of those NPCs that just stand around all day; not only that, but he has more explosives on him than anyone really ought to be able to carry, and seems determined to unload as much of it as possible in the Initiate's not-so-general vicinity. The mayor given a nice dirt nap and buried, appropriately beneath the rock slide his explosives caused, the player returns to the town.

The raiders have given up loitering in favor of looting. Many of the citizens of the town have fled; one who couldn't make it to their refuge in the recently cleared warehouse requests the Initiate's aid in saving them. But first: there are a total of 37 citizens scattered throughout the town areas. Should they be saved by the Initiate, the Wasteland Stranger will be very grateful indeed, to the tune of a Red Ryder LE BB gun (which wasn't all that shabby even in mid-game Fallout 2, and at this stage of BoS is even better). The bandits inside, and their leader, are doing what they do best; getting in the way. The Initiate finds ways to make them less obstructive.

With the help of the Vault Dweller, the protagonist of Fallout, the player heads to the city of Los. There, he or she looks for mutants. The search leads to the Church of the Lost, a cult based inside the city. A Brotherhood Paladin, Rhombus, asks the player to kill the cult leader, Blake. Blake and the player fight, and after recovering a key from the dead cult leader, the player escorts Rhombus to a truck where he had hidden the key.

But when he tries to recover the key, it will be guarded by kamikaze ghouls. The player, warned of the danger, kills all the kamikaze ghouls in the area. Rhombus, seriously wounded, gives him the key card and entrusts the task of stopping the Super Mutants. The player asks the Los ghouls for information and one of them speaks of a Warehouse and a Secret Vault to be found not far from the current location. The player finds the warehouse and goes inside.

After fighting in the Warehouse, the initiate manages to revive an old generator and takes an elevator that overlooks the entrance to the Secret Vault. During a battle with Attis, the mutant general, the player is knocked unconscious and left for dead. With help from the human residents of the vault, the initiate is revived and enters the ruins of the vault in a search of Attis. When the two meet again, Attis has mutated into a blob. The player fights through the blob in order to gain access to a computer terminal that can start the decontamination of the vault. The initiate then runs to a monorail car, narrowly escaping the now self-destructing vault.

This gun can be found on guardian drones, along with the alien power modules to power them. The cannons can also be shot off the drones and picked up like other weapons.
The action in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel takes place in one location at a time; a player can not return to previously visited locations, and not visit new ones until the storyline advances, similar to the fashion of Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, and others. The drone cannon is a weapon of alien origin which is added to Fallout 3 in the Mothership Zeta add-on.

Characteristics

It is the removed arm cannon of a guardian drone. It fires a ball of energy that acts as a grenade, bouncing and then exploding after a period of about 3 seconds. The projectile has the ability to move buses and cars before exploding. This weapon is hard to use at first, but once you understand its operation, it becomes an extremely devastating weapon.

A direct hit from the ball of energy will also deal a high amount of damage, and hitting a target's middle to upper body will usually result in the ball dropping straight down before exploding, making it a good way to hit specific targets with the explosion.

When fired into water, the projectile will continue normally, bouncing off any obstructions under the water. It will explode normally like other explosives.

Durability

The drone cannon can successfully fire about 417 times from full condition before breaking.

Variants

 • Drone cannon Ex-B Mothership Zeta (add-on)- it has increased range over the drone cannon, and the projectiles fired from it explode on impact while still arcing, unlike the bouncy drone cannon shot.

This gun can be found on guardian drones, along with the alien power modules to power them. The cannons can also be shot off the drones and picked up like other weapons.

Bugs

 • PCPC When taking the cannon from a drone, it has no icon (PipOS Error - 26 [File Not Found]). This is not necessarily a bug and could in fact have been included deliberately, due to the weapon's alien origins and the 'PipOS' not recognizing it. [verified]
 • PCPC When examining a cannon dropped by a drone in the normal worldview (not by searching the drone's inventory), it will always show a value of 999 caps (app. half CND) regardless of the weapon's actual quality. This could also not be a bug and be deliberate, since the 'PipOS' not recognizing it and giving it a default value in caps. [verified]
 • Xbox 360Xbox 360 When examining the drone cannon while in a guardian drone's inventory, the condition, damage and value are at its highest (Full CND,152 DMG, Value:1999 caps) but when after examing that drone cannon in your inventory, it will show it's true statistics e.g. 3/4 CND,129 DMG, Value:1357 caps. [verified]
 • Xbox 360Xbox 360 If you equip a drone cannon while wearing enclave tesla armor, the coils on the back of the chest piece will dissapear. [verified]
