The fava bean (Vicia faba), also known as the broad bean, faba bean, field bean, bell bean, or tic bean, is a species of bean (Fabaceae) native to North Africa, southwest and south Asia, with an almost 6000 year old history of cultivation. A particular favorite of gourmets partaking in long pork dishes,[1] isolated instances of fava bean cultivation exist in the wastelands, for example, in San Francisco.[2]
