Hey, thanks. It's nice to be appreciated. Most people just take my work for granted. It's the kind of work that only gets noticed when something goes wrong, if you know what I mean.

Enrico Thompson (username Thompson.E)[1] is an Institute scientist working in the facilities division in 2287.

Background[]

Enrico is the husband of Janet Thompson and proud father of Julia and Alice, as he considers coming home to his daughters to be the happiest part of his day.[2] Enrico is responsible for maintaining power distribution and the internal works of the Institute, using the older technology which it was developed from.[3][4] He is also involved in monitoring the first generation synth work crews, noting that they should not recharge until two percent power and hoping they should no longer bump into walls following a navigation software patch.[5]

During the quest Pinned, depending on the actions taken by the Sole Survivor, he will express displeasure at using aggressive methods to "recruit" T.S. Wallace,[6] saying that the Minutemen present to protect him are out for blood, or Gunners if the former have not reformed.[7][8] Enrico will also admit that the Institute has been feeding Wallace information to test his abilities.[9]

  3. Enrico Thompson: "It's a real juggling act, trying to keep all the systems down here operating in the green. This place might look shiny and new, but there's a lot of old technology in these walls. I lose sleep worrying about when the next blackout's going to hit."
The Sole Survivor: "Looks like everything's running great. I'd say your doing your job."
Enrico Thompson: "Hey, thanks. It's nice to be appreciated. Most people just take my work for granted. It's the kind of work that only gets noticed when something goes wrong, if you know what I mean. There's some stuff I need to check on. See you around, yeah?"

  4. The Sole Survivor: "How old are we talking about?"
Enrico Thompson: "Well, the reactor and a lot of the related systems - you know, cooling, monitoring, power distribution - that's all pre-war tech. Most of the superstructure down here was built later, by the people who survived the war. I guess each generation's been tinkering with the place, adding labs, making upgrades and so on. There's some stuff I need to check on. See you around, yeah?"
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
  5. Enrico Thompson: "Remember to keep unnecessary power consumption to a minimum. Don't recharge unless your primary levels are below two percent. Also, if you haven't patched your navigation software, do so after this meeting. The last thing we need is more synths bumping into walls. Alright, that's all for now. You can resume your duties."
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
  6. The Sole Survivor: "Talk is cheap. Maybe it's time to kick in the door."
Enrico Thompson: "No, no! We need this man on our side. He needs to see that we'll help him as much as he'll help us! Just don't antagonize him, and you should be fine."
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
  7. The Sole Survivor: "It wouldn't have been such a mess if you'd handled it differently."
Enrico Thompson: "I never claimed to be suited for field work, and I explicitly stated that when given this assignment! Besides, it's not my fault that Wallace called in those... savages."
The Sole Survivor: "The Minutemen were only doing what they felt was right."
Enrico Thompson: "Well from here it looked like they were out for blood. And if you hadn't arrived, I think they might've gotten it. Can we just get on with this, please?"
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
  8. The Sole Survivor: "It was bad enough when Wallace reacted so poorly to our arrival, but then Gunners? I was not prepared for that."
Enrico Thompson: "I know he's potentially important to Phase Three and all, but I'm not sure it's worth putting ourselves in harm's way..."
The Sole Survivor: "If he's really important to the Institute, then it's worth it."
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
  9. The Sole Survivor: "You're right, I suppose."
Enrico Thompson: "I know they've been keeping an eye on him for years. Not sure how they originally found him; probably don't want to know. But once they realized how smart he was, and what an asset he could be for Phase Three, they watched pretty closely. I think they even fed him scientific material from time to time, to see how good he was. You know, testing him. To see if he was Institute material. Let's just get Wallace and get out of here."
    (Enrico Thompson's dialogue)
