The Box is a massive, sealed arms factory in the ruins of south-east Denver, near Cherry Creek.

Background[]

The Box is an automated arms and robotics factory, looking like, well, a huge metal "box" contained inside the facade of an office building. Made completely out of metal, it is fitted with a single security door on the surface, though it can also be accessed through the sewers. The factory remained sealed since the war. There are at least four separate levels in the Box itself, including a robot assembly line, cryogenic storage for brains and a cafeteria with frozen, long lasting food (e.g. apples).

Points of interest[]

The player was supposed to be able to breach the factory and (optionally) reactivate it. The factory would then begin manufacturing and releasing robots, that would first secure the nearby perimeter and then slowly expand throughout the city, eventually taking over several locations, such as the police station or the city hall.

Robots encountered include floating eyebots, security bots, warbots and even robobrains. The first three types would be encountered both inside the factory and outside, whereas the brain bots would only be seen inside The Box (their numbers would depend on the number of brains left in The Box's storage; the design document limits their number to four tops).

Related quests[]

The Box is one of the most important fixtures of Denver, and an important part of several character plot arcs:

  • Garcia and Davis, who discovered the Box, play an important part in the Box subplot.
  • Wahl wants everyone to leave, just so that he can come back and claim the prize for himself.
  • Bombay Jack attacks the player inside the factory, after they crack it open.

Appearances[]

The Box was going to appear in Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 by Black Isle Studios.
