Hello, my fellow Vaultians. Some of you may know me personally; others may know me as "that one Quantum guy with a bunch of edits". Either way, I bring you here today to decide on one thing and one thing only: my administration privileges.

So, this day has been long in coming, but I recently made my 10,000th edit, meaning I have fulfilled the promise I made to myself many months ago. Having 10,000 edits to me means that I have a vast array of knowledge of the do’s and don’ts of The Vault and I could effectively instruct a newcomer how it works as well.

I have been an active member for about a year now, but I suppose most of you guys already know that, making this futile to say, but I’ll get it out there anyway. I don’t count the part where I did one or two edits a week during my first 6 months. When I joined that snowy day in February 2010, I never thought in my wildest dreams that it would soon take over the majority of my free time. I never knew how enjoyable and gratifying it would be to make changes to articles that literally tens of thousands of people would see.

Not only did I get to provide information to others who enjoy my passion, but I also made a lot of good friends and acquaintances in the process who similarly share my passion (you know who you are). To a generally anti-social guy who avoids people at all nearly costs, you guys made me feel like I belonged, like I was part of something bigger than myself, and there’s nothing better than that feeling.

Contributions[]

Now that were done with all that sappy, sentimental crap, we can move onto the stuff you’ve been waiting for: contributions.

There should have been a list of this user's edit counts here, but the edit counts feature is no longer available.

Reason[]

My primary reason of wanting administration privileges, of course, is for the tools. I’ve come across a good share of pages in need of deletion and also a hefty sum of vandals in need of blocking. With my current rank, I can do neither and have to resort to appealing to an admin to do it for me, which I’m sure is annoying to them. I’m an admin on the Fallout Answers Wikia, so it’s a major inconvenience to be able to moderate things there, but having no abilities to do it here.

Another main reason is the authority that comes with it. Now don’t misinterpret this; it’s not "I’m an admin, you have to listen to me", far from it. Most new users gauge the importance of another user on two things: your rank and your edit count (and sometimes not even the latter). For those who don’t listen to "average" users, it’s frustrating when you’re trying to help them out and they totally disregard what you’re saying just because you don’t have the userbox on your page.

Major contributions[]

Projects[]

  • About a month into my "serious editing", I joined the FO3 NPC overhaul project. It was the main project I worked on as you can tell from my contributions in the M-R, S-Z, Broken Steel, Operation: Anchorage and Point Lookout sections. In fact Gothe promoted me to project leader partially for my efforts on the project and partially for the fact that he couldn’t perform his duties (and because no one else was working the project). In late May, Porter and I partnered together and finally finished the project.
  • Another project I participated in was the FO3 creatures project. I would say I was arguably one of the top contributors, but that’s debatable, so we won’t go any further into that.
  • I also participated in the F:NV creatures project. To be honest, I was less active on this project than the FO3 one. I did the simple, yet essential things like creating the page if it was needed and renaming existing pages as per the guidelines (<insert creature name here> (Fallout 3)) and merging the variants into one page.

Mainspace edits[]

  • I visited the Fallout: New Vegas characters page and spent 4 days (about 700 edits) just going through and checking if their Interactions section was filled out properly, so we don’t have to do it if the Fallout: New Vegas NPC overhaul project comes along.
  • I revisited this about two months later after the VA:LAYC was revised and once again “upgraded” the pages.
  • I cleaned up the Fallout: New Vegas consumables page quite a bit. It used to have repeats, broken links, misspellings, etc. You name it, it had it. I steered away from the project because it was just confusing and not well-regulated. The project page was a mess and missing a lot of vital pieces (like a progress chart), but this isn’t the place to critique a project, so we’ll just move ahead.
  • The Fallout: New Vegas skill magazines/books were a right mess. They were, among other things, completely out of alphabetical order, and for those of you who know me, you know that’s a giant red flag in my book. Remember "Alphabetizing is FUN!".
  • On Doc Mitchell’s page, I added the chart for the Vit-o-Matic comments he makes. For the first chart of that sort I made, I’d say I did a pretty good job. That shows that I’m a quick learner.
  • For the Pitt broadcast page, I put all of Ashur’s announcements on the page. It was boring as hell listening to Ashur for 15 minutes straight, but if it helps The Vault…

Maintenance[]

  • For both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas song articles, I made sure they all had the same layout, had the same size video, the video link was not broken, and that the video was sited correctly.
  • In what I like to call the "Great Disambiguation", I visited the Skill book page and using the "What link's here" feature, I was able to go directly to pages and fill out the link correctly, so it didn't bring up a disambiguation page.
  • I'm always rearranging sections to fit the predetermined layout, mostly on NPC’s and locations.
  • I also often find myself rewording the way things are said on general pages so they make more sense. This isn't my favorite thing to do, but someone’s got to do it. I don’t go looking for it; they just pop up in my-email. I guess I have a knack for it.
  • Stubs: always removing them, especially from Fallout: New Vegas articles.

My 'field'[]

As you can see, my main contributions mostly coincide with projects and making article uniform in some way or another. As long as I have some form of guidance/direction, I can do just about anything anyone wants. All of the projects I’ve participated in have been apparent, direct, and clear-cut, so direction was no problem. That was also why I veered away from the consumables project, but I digress. When I get free time, I spend upwards of 3 hours and make a gross of edits (sometimes more) working on sections of a project, and I simply lose track of time doing it.

That's essentially my Vault experience. Now if you'd be so kind, please cast you vote below. Feel free to leave some comments if you feel like it. -Kastera (talk) 19:39, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

P.S. Sorry about the length of it all; I got a little carried away...

  • Yes Very comprehensive application - Normally I'd want to know which games you've played but your application is very comprehensive and you seem clearly deserving - the Fallout Answers stuff seals the deal as having that synergy makes sense. Agent c 23:43, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes Ha finally your request ;). Kastera1000 is a great contributor and has participate in many projects on The Vault. He can be call the "checking and rearranging man", having passed, I think, an endless time to check and rearrange pages and those of The Vault's projects (I think he lost his eyes, sincerely). From my opinion, I think he will be a good addition for the team of The Vault. Itachou [~talk~] 16:57, June 22, 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes The Vault needs dedicated users like you, and from the work you've done, you've most definitely earned it =) On a side note I was visiting the GTA wiki recently to look up some San Andreas info, and man, that place needs a major, complete overhaul. Thus, with people like you on board, it's great to see a wiki being run excellently by dedicated users as well as all the other admins and bureaucrats on here. Willooi 01:30, June 27, 2011 (UTC)
