For the best guide to Fallout 2 and 1, you should have a read of Per Jorner's Walkthru. You can find it at the No Mutants Allowed Site. [1]

Is there any way to remove things from a companions inventory other then bartering?

Does anyone ever restock what they sell?

Is it normal for Ian to ignore whatever guns I give him in favour of stabbing everyone? --DragonJTSLeave me a message 02:31, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

1. Not that I know of

2. Yes, merchants anyway.

3. Have you given him an SMG or .223 Pistol?

I gave him a 10mm smg and ammo for it. If I tell him to equip his best gun, he'll do so, but then immediately switch to his knife. --DragonJTSLeave me a message 02:41, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Can you tell him to change his tactics? I know you can for Fallout 2, but I can't remember for sure if you can in the original, I sometimes meld those two together in my mind. --Pongsifu 02:44, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

You can freely steal items from their inventories, they will not get aggressive when you do that. Ausir(talk) 02:46, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

I can only tell him how close to follow. Guess I'll steal his knife during the turn he has his smg out. i'll jsut have to keep a closer eye on his ammo. --DragonJTSLeave me a message 02:47, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

The Companion AI in Fallout 1 isnt great - it was a bit of an afterthought. Agent c 13:07, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

Getting them to use what guns you want has mostly to do with inventory management. Try having followers carry weapons they wont use, like a shotgun on Ian or a SMG on Tycho, it's also possible to buy bags and backpacks from Killian in Junktown (far table I think). You can put items you don't want them to use in the bag and then have them carry the bag in their inventory. It may be enough not to give them ammo, but I can't remember. Even with all that, they may opt to just charge in and kick and punch Rhomb 10:28, November 24, 2010 (UTC)
