Hi, I was wondering what perks anyone found were must-haves during the game and which ones were just a waste of time. I am a level twelve and have already gotten the scrounger perk, and the one where you get an extra 3 skill points per level and an extra skill point per book read. Are there any perks that you think are must-haves? Or any that just were a waste of time?

My personal favorite perk is the animal freind perk, as wandering around the wasteland you will agree that it is nice to have Yao guai on your side. But, if you have or want evil Karma, go with the cannibal perk, since every time you kill some one you can take some meat off there person. Deigerba 02:06, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

During my first playthrough, I got a lot of mileage out of the "Grim Reaper's Sprint", which is fantastic on it's own since it was a 'user generated' perk. Maybe it doesn't count since it's a lvl 20 perk, but it's certainly worth it once you get there for anyone who spends a lot of time in VATS. GRS + Alien Blaster = unstoppable carnage, even if you're wearing sexy sleepwear.  ;) Bsdasym 02:12, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I find that the Educated perk is really nice at level 4 because it gives you 4 extra skill points every level up. 3*15=45 extra skill points if you make it to level 20. Really helpful for the rest of the game. MegatonDestroyer13 02:41, 7 January 2009 (UTC)MegatonDestroyer13

Adamantium Skeleton + T-51b Power Armor + Terrible Shotgun = God Mode. -HG

That's got to be the worst perk in the game. Rad Regeneration is a million times better and it's free.

Educated and Comprehension.--JiNX Bloodfang 11:00, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

As far as most fun perk, I love the Mister Sandman perk. I just love cute little musical soundbite that plays everytime you kill a sleeping person. The most useful, early on in the game I would say is Black Widow if you play a female character. Otherwise I love Intense Training, Comprehension, Educated, and Finesse. Of course, I play science based characters with low strength and endurance. Hence my buffout addiction. Nerdychaz 03:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

My favorite perk has to be Demolition Expert. It ranks up to +60% dmg. And lets be honest, what could be more satisfying than outright killing groups of super mutants with a single frag grenade? The super-tough enemies, deathclaws, brutes and[masters end up gimped (multiple crippled limbs) after one blast, so you can just finish them off with small arms fire. Also, I can't live without Silent Running, or Better Criticals, they're such powerhouses they change the game. Ash Nuke AshRandom (Talk) 14:19, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Better Criticals is a must-have after level 16. I used it when I got to level 18, and in my next play-through, I will put it on much earlier. Gsmikem 19:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Mysterious Stranger + Luck 13 = Easy survival. D3V0NST8R 12:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Second time through the game and I made better perk choices.

Educated- You must take this one, and pairing it with Daddy's boy and Intense Training will help you advance quickly.

Ant Sight - Strength is overrated

Better Criticals- Hard to knock a 50% damage bonus

Bloody Mess- It's cool, but mainly you do more damage

Commando, Gunslinger, Sniper, Wired Reflexes, Finesse, Concentrated Fire, Grim Reaper's Sprint- These along with Better Criticals and Bloody Mess will make you a killing muh-cheen. With all these, you really don't need Action Boy, but if you think you need it, who's stopping you?

Cyborg- The extra damage resisitance is nice, especially if you like to use Ranger Armor instead of Power Armor. Pair this with Barkskin, Toughness and Ranger Armor to be a bad mamma-jamma.

Gun Nut- The weapon skill is nice, but the points gained in repair are even nicer. Healthy weapons do healthy damage.

Scrounger- If you use the Blackhawk or Alien Blaster, you'll need all the extra ammo you can get. LVTDUDE 15:45, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

For sheer humour and cheering - up - ability, the Bloody Mess perk is just perfect. The 5% damage bonus to all weapons is dandy, too. For actual usefulness, Grim Reaper's sprint is... devestating. Just enter a room (hopefully with the Action Boy perk, as well as perhaps some AP boosting items) and V.A.T.S. it up! I've emptied rooms with... Oh, about five or six standard Enclave soldiers, and managed to kill all of them without taking more than one or two hits. All vaporized by my trusty Plasma Rifle. 95% chance for headshot for the win! ~mAdCaTRULEZ
