Background[edit | edit source]
The eyes and ears of Caesar, his intelligence officers are tasked not only with infiltrating enemy society, but also carry out his campaigns of terror. They operate separately from the main Legion forces and are hand picked by Caesar himself. In 2281, the leader of this section is Vulpes Inculta.
These soldiers are modeled on the frumentarii of the ancient Roman army, who began as food supply officers and soon adapted to be used as spies and special agents in the time of the emperors.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
- Frumentarius (pl.: frumentarii) is the word for "grain" or "corn" in Latin. The Frumentarii were originally wheat collectors in ancient Rome, and also acted as a "secret service".
- The Courier: "What do the Frumentarii do?"
Caesar: "Whatever I require. Infiltration, assassination, dramatic atrocities to break the spirit of the enemy - et cetera. They're mentally flexible. They operate behind enemy lines for extended periods, imitating the enemy's customs without becoming sullied. In all these things, Vulpes is a master."
