Let's wrap this thing up, soldier. We're cold, we're tired and we want our goddamn oil back!

General Constantine Chase was a pre-War United States Army general, who led the U.S. military during the Anchorage Reclamation, a campaign that pushed back Chinese forces from Alaska in January of 2077. His simulated persona is encountered by the Lone Wanderer in the year 2277 in the Anchorage Reclamation simulation.

Background[edit | edit source]

Born on November 16, 2027, Constantine Chase is a gruff and determined general officer. His considerable military talents (culminating in the success of the Anchorage Reclamation), coupled with his slightly over-the-top personality and staunch anti-communist views, allowed him to rise to the forefront of military politics before the Great War.[1] As a key figure of the United States military, he championed the Liberty Prime project, proposing it as a solution to the Chinese problem in Anchorage. The project was implemented, despite reports from RobCo and General Atomics researchers that such a combat robot was simply not feasible. Ultimately, the project was unsuccessful, as Anchorage was liberated through the sweat and blood of U.S. servicemen in 2077.

After the conclusion of the campaign, it seems he became increasingly arrogant and self-absorbed, to the point of personally assuming control over the Virtual Strategic Solutions, Inc. project responsible for creating the Anchorage simulation, making alterations and demands that resulted in the simulation eventually becoming completely detached from what actually happened in Anchorage. Chase was also responsible for green lighting the unofficial implementation of a military Chinese invasion training protocol in Vault 112's Tranquility Lane simulation, at the request of Stanislaus Braun (officially, the request was denied).

There were scandalous allegations concerning Chase, however: The approval of the development of the Psycho combat drug during the war, by Chase's own pharmaceutical R&D company, no less, led to a scandal. Soldiers under Chase's command were issued Psycho drugs during the Anchorage campaign to counter their wounds or mental trauma. The drugging of soldiers was considered inexcusable by the public.[2]

According to the ribbons on the general's uniform, he was the recipient of the: Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Army Distinguished Service Cross, Army Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Antarctica Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Gold Lifesaving Medal, and Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • The Lone Wanderer can obtain General Chase's overcoat aboard Mothership Zeta in the Mothership Zeta add-on. However, the version obtained on Zeta glitches, and renders as winterized combat armor when worn.
  • He is the only non-player character in the game that smokes a cigar (as opposed to cigarettes).
  • He sometimes salutes the PC despite being a higher rank than you, perhaps as recognition for a job well done.

Notable quotes[edit | edit source]

  • "those Commie Bastards!"
  • "Soldier, you're fixing to have a size 10 combat boot shoved up your candy ass."
  • "Damn fine work you did taking out those guns. Damn fine!"
  • "Uncle Sam's invested a lot of money turning you into a killing machine... time to pay him back. Dismissed."

Appearances[edit | edit source]

A four-star general in charge of the military assault on Anchorage, Chase is gruff, determined, and a touch over the top with the politics of the day. He is constantly wary of "those Commie Bastards!" and is overtly paranoid that they are up to all sorts of nefarious activities. He is your gallant leader. Talking back to an officer of this rank isn't likely to be tolerated."

An overworked and slightly agitate field doctor with several years of experience under her belt, Adami is busy administering Chems (usually Psycho) to wounded or mentally scarred soldiers at the U.S. Field Headquarters medical tent. Investigation into simulated Holotapes reveals discrepancies between her simulated and real-life persona, as her records implicate General Chase in a scandal of drugging soldiers with Chems researched at Chase's pharmaceutical company."
