Nothing says "equality" like a fistful of caps.— Wastelander, Log entry #001

The wastelander is a female ghoul scientist who works in the SatCom Array NW-05a in 2277.

Background[]

This resident of the Capital Wasteland is an intelligent, ghoulified researcher with the goal of tapping into a pre-War military satellite in orbit. To that end, she set up a base at SatCom Array NW-05a and hired mercenaries from Talon Company to protect the premises. She used a stash of bottle caps she had been collecting since before most of the mercenaries were born.[1] Although power sources are less common in the more rural areas of the wasteland, the scientist managed to find a live power line buried in the ground, which she used to power her facility, hoping to get defensive turrets and the array's dish motors operational.[2] She soon began her work by pinging nearby SatCom arrays, though she received interference from SatCom Array NN-03d, and pondered over sending one of the Talon Company mercs to investigate (unaware that NN-03d was occupied by raiders).[3] As she was still unable to get the dish motivators operational, she initially had very little success in pinging satellites outside of the Earth's atmosphere. She began to theorize that if she could get her hands on an old astronomical chart, then she could wait until a celestial body passed over the area to confirm a signal, though that could potentially take years.[4]

However, the wastelander soon struck gold: she successfully pinged Highwater-Trousers, an orbital nuclear weapons platform.[5] The satellite was stationary above the Capital Wasteland, and did not moved in the week after she discovered it. Unfortunately for her, she did not have a targeting platform at her disposal, which meant that if she activated its payload, it would drop directly on top of the area surrounding the array. However, she still keeps the activation code on her person, just in case.[6]
