Glowing hermit crab is a creature in Far Harbor.

Background[edit | edit source]

Post-War hermit crabs, largely unchanged since the nuclear fallout mutated them, have drastically changed in the singular sense, in that they now grow to towering proportions. Due to their size, hermit crabs as they age, are no longer able to protect themselves within shells, and as such, now use detritus such as wrecked vehicles, in order to house their bulk from hunters, as well as to blend in with their environment, in order to ambush unsuspecting prey.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Typically found housed within trucks sinking into the local swamp, these hermit crabs will ambush most living creatures that get too close, in which they will use their mutated claws brutally incapacitate their prey. However, should their ambushes be avoided, hermit crabs are relatively slow due to their size, and as such, they can be effectively escaped from.The hermit crab is essentially a boss monster, found infrequently. It has plenty of hit points and deals a tremendous amount of damage with its claws and frequently births hermit crab hatchlings to attack enemies. Dealing with it is a matter of planning and engaging at maximum range, as the truck hull limits its mobility and keeps the player outside the range of its claws. Mines are of limited use, as the crab's hatchlings will usually detonate them before the mother rolls over.

Using V.A.T.S., hermit crabs can be spotted before their ambushes are sprung. Additionally, hermit crabs can be damaged by sources of radiation, with the sole exception of the glowing variant.

A heavily irradiated variant of hermit crab, these creatures are seen glowing a bright green, and upon close encounters with them, will emit low amounts of radiation, which can harm living entities.
