The Guardian of Forever is a special encounter in Fallout 2. The Guardian is a giant time portal which allows the Chosen One travel back in time before the start of Fallout to break the water chip in Vault 13. After having broken the water chip, a notice reads "the vault has maybe 100-150 days left of water. This comforts you for some reason."

In the Vault, you can browse only the command center. Although linear, it provides palpable benefits to the player character. Loot includes Mentats and the unique Solar Scorcher.

Remember to get all the loot because returning is impossible after leaving.

Layout[edit | edit source]

The area of the Guardian portal itself is barren desert, punctuated by ruined columns. In the center lies the portal itself. Passing through it sends the Chosen One to Vault 13's command level.

The command level is exactly the same as in Fallout. Loot can be found in the lockers and inside the armory. Activating the computer with the water chip breaks it and returns the Chosen One to the present.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Guardian of Forever appears only in Fallout 2.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The Guardian of Forever is a reference to the Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever".
