Heart of the Enemy is a daily quest in Fallout 76.

The Brotherhood of Steel was looking for a way to identify the Scorchbeasts' weaknesses. It involved Mission 099-01. Mission 099-01 involves going to Vault-Tec University and wiring up one of their Automated Research Labs to find the weaknesses of the Scorchbeasts.

  • This daily quest become available after completing Recruitment Blues and gaining access to the upper floor of Fort Defiance. Players need to pick up Mission 099-01 Orders and head over to Vault-Tec University. First, the automated research lab requires power. To provide it, the player needs to find the generator room, hack the power terminal, and allocate power.
  • Then, they need to activate the Automated Research Terminal and activate the automated test. The test needs input: A fresh scorchbeast DNA sample.
  • One can see why the mission was considered an unacceptable expenditure of lives of the Brotherhood, but the dwellers are a tougher bunch. The scorchbeast will be spawned by the quest, but any monster will do. Completing Event: Line in the Sand can help kill one with a minimum of fuss. Even scorchbeasts killed by other players will do, as the DNA sample is harvested by a scripted option, rather than by collecting an item from its inventory.
  • To complete the quest, players simply need to return the sample and run the automated test routine.
