Hester's Consumer Robotics is a location in the Theater District of Boston in 2287.

Background[]

A local business that used to be run by one Hester Geppetto, this locale was a sales center and maintenance garage for owners of refurbished and upgraded consumer robots, mainly the Mister Handy model. In more recent times, the shop has been shunned by scavengers who claim the building is a deceptive trap.[Non-game 1]

Layout[]

The front double-door entrance leads to a retail showroom and sales area. At its center are several shelves surrounded by displays of Mister Handy robots designed to demonstrate their domestic versatility. Several of these robots activate and become hostile if the "tell me more" sales patter buttons are pressed. (Pressing a button will not activate all of the Mister Handies, only the one in front of the button, and possibly one or two of the nearby units as well.) This room contains a large variety of junk items on the shelves, as well as quite a few stacks of pre-War money behind the sales counter in small compartments along its length and inside the two cash registers.

From the first room, there are two ways to reach the main workshop section of the building. The first (on the right) leads past a nearby clapping cymbal monkey into a short and narrow hallway. Along the right side of the hallway are two small bathrooms. The first (the women's room) contains only a few junk items on the floor, while the second (the men's room) contains a first aid kit on the wall to the right, as well as a dead male settler sitting on the toilet.

The second way forward is through one of two closed doors behind and near the sales counter. The door behind the counter leads to a small office with a single desk and a few file cabinets as well as a door to a small workshop area, while the other door leads directly to the small workshop. The workshop has two tables at its center, with the one on the right bearing many scorch marks and the full lootable remains of a skeleton as well as a blowtorch. There is also a toolbox, an ammo box, and various junk items.

Both ways lead to the same final room, which is a much larger workshop area inhabited by an Assaultron and two Protectrons. A dormant sentry bot also resides here, and will explode if fired upon or if the Sole Survivor hacks and activates it using the Robotics Expert perk. Two destructible cars can be used to destroy or greatly damage the hostile robots. The room also contains an armor workbench, a weapons workbench, and a power armor station.

In the northeast corner is a Novice-locked gate, behind which lies a trash bin and a steamer trunk. The gate can be bypassed by walking up the ramp to the second level and looping around to drop into the area from above, or with a suit of power armor equipped with a jetpack mod. On the upper level, the corpse of a female trader can be found behind a large stack of boxes to the left after ascending the stairs. The room features two exits to the Commonwealth along the southwest wall, with one through a door on the lower level in a small room to the right of the base of the stairs, and the other via a ladder on the upper level leading to the roof. On the roof, one may find a dead settler next to an ammo box, chem cooler, and sleeping bag, and the accessible remains of a crashed monorail leading to the fourth floor of Mass Bay Medical Center to the north.
