Irradiated heavy trooper is a marked man found in the Long 15 in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.
Proximity to the nuclear blast that leveled the Long 15 outpost killed unprotected troops and civilians while savaging NCR heavy troopers. Instead of dying outright, the blast turned them into a variation of marked men, flayed dead men walking who lash out at all who come near.
Marked men are a unique subtype of ghoul with a fiery red tone due to their brutal environment; ghoulification made their flesh weak and fragile, but it was the storms that peeled their skin off, leaving behind only muscle. According to Ulysses, the radiation of the Divide may be the only thing keeping them alive. They congregate in squads and small camps of around four marked men and wear ramshackle faction armor. They appear to have resorted to cannibalism to survive within the Divide.
- The Apocalypse: If the player elects to nuke Long 15, these troopers will be encountered at the ruined Long 15 outpust. The combination of salvaged power armor, high level weapons, and level 50 make them very dangerous foes.
Behind the scenes
- An additional, unused variant of the irradiated heavy trooper exists within the resources of Lonesome Road. Also called "irradiated heavy trooper", this version differs primarily in that it has 5 for all SPECIAL statistics. It also is equipped with a minigun loaded with 5mm AP rounds, rather than a random loadout. Internally this version has the Editor ID NVDLC04NukeNCRColonel, indicating that this may have been an early stand-in for Colonel Royez.
Irradiated heavy troopers appear in the Long 15 which is only accessible if the player nukes NCR territory at the end of the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.
- ↑ The Courier: "Radiation may keep them alive in areas so physically punishing, it would kill others - even ghouls."
The Courier: "If they've become ghouls, the radiation would strengthen them. Heal their wounds - not the scars."
Ulysses: "[SUCCEEDED] There's truth in your words, in what I've seen of their tactics, movements - recovery. Those wounds - they couldn't live otherwise. The Divide winds have torn the skin from many of them - may be the radiation is the only thing keeping them walking. Make camp near silos... warheads. No way to cleanse the radiation - makes them hard to kill there, have to draw them out."
- ↑ Various humanoid mutilated body parts are found around their campfires, and it is more likely they belong to marked men, who are more abundant that normal humans in the Divide.
