Sergeant J. P. Renkse was a United States Army officer posted at Listening post Bravo before the Great War.

Background[edit | edit source]

Assigned to a long-range monitoring command by Captain Rutledge, the Sergeant was sent to Listening post Bravo for a four week tour.[1] During which the Sergeant believed they heard several phrases over the low-band frequencies - stuff normally used by outdated equipment – and sent those phrases over to translation in Washington.[2] After four days of nothing[3] the Sergeant heard banging coming from the elevator and locked down the bunker. Activating the security and arming himself with the emergency rifle kept in storage.[4] Five days later they broke radio silence, revealing that the holotape recording sent was blank and that the Sergeant was told it was possible they were experiencing auditory hallucinations from being isolated for so long. Telling him to hang tight as they send someone out to relieve the soldier. The Sergeant debated the possibility that this isolation did something to their mind,[5] forgot to disable the security at the entrance. When relief arrived they were killed and not too long later the Great War prevented any other help from arriving; the Sergeant would die in the bunker.[6]
