|For real world information about James Monroe, see James Monroe on Wikipedia.|
James Monroe (April 28, 1758 – July 4, 1831) was the fifth President of the United States of America.
Monroe was the last president that had signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, serving from 1817 to 1825. Monroe held many political offices prior to president including Senator from Virginia, Secretary of State, and Secretary of War, both under James Madison. His most notable accomplishment was authoring the Monroe Doctrine, discouraging European powers from settling the rest of the American continent. This surge of nationalism brought along the "Era of Good Feelings".
