You're from the Brotherhood? You incompetent little fuck! You wiped out half my soldiers, destroyed everything I've built here! Do you even understand what's going on here?

Jane, also called Matron and Raider Matron, is the leader of a gang of raiders with a strong matriarchal system in the town of Carbon, Texas in 2208.

While she was their leader, other raider women were her lieutenants. Jane engages in the slave trade and is in a business deal with Attis, providing him with slaves.[1] Jane and her raiders terrorized the townspeople of Carbon and carried out raids for supplies, slaves, or whatever else they desired. Jane has a very hedonistic, violent and sadistic personality and uses a pair of Desert Eagles as her weapons.

Background[]

When some of her raiders were killed in the local bar by the newly arrived Brotherhood of Steel initiate, she coerced the mayor of Carbon, Richard, to lure the Initiate into the Carbon crater. There, the mayor, with help from the raiders, attempted to kill the Initiate. However, the mayor himself was killed, and the Initiate escaped and made it back into town, which was now being razed to the ground, as the raider matron now wanted to teach the citizens of Carbon not to mess with her again. Jane cruelly ordered her raiders to burn Armpit to death.

Vidya agreed with the Initiate that Jane and her raiders needed to be killed in order to prevent another act of revenge. The Initiate soon killed the raiders and followed them back to their headquarters: an abandoned mill on the edge of town. Jane was known to have spent most of her time in the central area of the mill, and Jesse described the reason being that she enjoyed the "vibrations."

Jane is then seen conversing with the super mutant general, Attis, apparently selling slaves to him from a previous raid. When she asks for his help in order to kill the Initiate who had killed many of her men, even going so far as to offer sexual favors to him in return for his support, he then denies her request, going so far as to call her "repulsive" for stooping down to a level in which she would sell her own fellow humans, and then preceded to tell her that she was on her own to sort out this problem. Annoyed, Jane called him an impotent freak.

When the Initiate reaches her, she reveals that she helped the Brotherhood of Steel weeks ago when she met with a group of paladins who wanted information on super mutant activity in the area. She directed them to a mutant army that was located at the nearby ghoul city of Los.[2] She then reveals that the paladins not only knew about her activities in Carbon but they also offered her protection.[3] She is then killed by the Initiate in combat, who may take her guns after.

Quests[]

  • Defeat Raiders: This is an overarching questline that begins when Carbon is attacked and ends when Jane is killed.
  • Kill Raider Matron: This is one of the objectives of the above questline. Defeating Jane will result in story progression and 600 XP.

Other interactions[]

If the player plays as Cyrus, Jane makes a comment, "It'll be a shame to waste a good piece of man-meat like you. Guess I can cut off the good parts and keep them... as toys." to which Cyrus comments, "I don't like to hurt women, but in your case I'll make an exception." If the player is Nadia, Jane comments, "Baby, when I'm done with you, you're going to beg me to kill you. And I'm not going to listen." to which Nadia comments, "Ooo, I'm shaking. Let's finish this..."

Tips[]

  • The Ripper can prove to be an effective weapon against Jane during her boss fight, although the player must get very close to her to attack and be prepared to dodge when Jane retaliates.
  • Having Dogmeat before the fight can prove helpful as Jane will get distracted fighting the dog, allowing players to get hits on her.

Behind the scenes[]

According to the developers, Jane "was based on photos of Betty Page, a 50's pinup girl who was notorious due to photo shoots of her that featured black leather, bondage, and (believe it or not) skimpy clothing. We thought that a sadistic female character might pattern herself after Betty Page at her seediest. So the character's attire was based upon some research into 50's pop culture."[4]
