Wastelanders is a general term used for human and ghoul inhabitants of the Wasteland, as opposed to people living in the more civilized post-War settlements, in 2277 and 2281.
Background
Fallout 3
Some wastelanders will not want to open dialog and tend to be rude, while others are pleasant and friendly towards the Lone Wanderer. They may be found as captives of super mutants or even as escaped slaves. Some can also be outright hostile, either before initiating conversation or immediately after ending conversation. Some of them may also sell you goods and repair items.
Fallout: New Vegas
Wastelanders can be found as corpses at various locations across the Mojave Wasteland. Because they are set as respawning non-player characters, they may sometimes be found alive, but with 0 health. They have no dialogue other than the constant "You mind your business, I'll mind my business" and some other lines of generic text.
Daily schedule
Fallout 3
Although the vast majority of wastelanders appear in random encounters, some can be found in fixed locations such as:
- A wastelander being chased by a raider with a flamethrower will appear just outside the Calverton chapel.
- A wastelander wired with a bomb will appear outside the canyon leading to Evergreen Mills after the completion of The Waters of Life if Broken Steel is installed.
- 2 hostile ghoul wastelanders live inside the Pylon shack.
- 3 hostile ghoul wastelanders occupy the Ghoul Outpost.
- 4 hostile ghoul wastelanders occupy the Wasteland Gypsy Village.
- One wastelander is the unlucky target of the claw aboard Mothership Zeta.
Wastelanders generally do not respawn if killed.
Fallout: New Vegas
Although the vast majority of wastelanders appear in random encounters, some can be found in fixed locations such as:
- North-west of Novac past the first radio antenna tower, a wastelander can be found wandering around a makeshift camp complete with a campfire, a free bed, first aid kit, shovel and more.
- In the Scorpion Gulch,a dead wastelander may spawn alive among several radscorpions.
- Occasionally where the three roads split Between Clark Field and Toxic dump site. He will sometimes be dead upon arrival.
