Those who came before you butchered our external connection hardware, scrambling the link between us and our closest and dearest system: ... the Kovac-Muldoon orbital platform. An ever-watching eye, trained on Appalachia.MODUS

The Kovac-Muldoon Platform is an orbital platform in Fallout 76.

Background[]

The Kovac-Muldoon was a satellite system providing the Whitespring bunker's occupants with an eye on Appalachia, governed by MODUS.[1] To minimize the threat of detection and destruction, the Kovac-Muldoon was also equipped with the latest in anti-detection systems, although these systems put more strain on the satellite's reactor than was projected, reducing its expected life span.[2] The orbital platform was capable of launching a missile strike from space.[1]

The Kovac-Muldoon served in its capacity after the War, primarily as an observation and support tool for the Enclave at the Whitespring bunker. The automated promotion systems were hooked to the Kovac, providing a backup in case the standard military chain of command came apart.[3] Furthermore, it served as MODUS' eyes and ears above ground. For this reason, General Ellen Santiago's rebels took out MODUS' landline connections to blind the AI and make it impossible for it to retaliate against them on President Eckhart's orders.[4] When MODUS retaliated by destroying the bunker's weapons lab, killing the Enclave members within the bunker, it also denied itself any chance to reconnect with the platform. Years later, the Vault 76 dwellers found the Congressional Bunker in search of a way to destroy the scorchbeasts and accompanying Scorched Plague. MODUS seized on the opportunity to re-establish its uplink and gain a semblance of a presence on the surface, using the Kovac-Muldoon to direct orbital strikes, run perimeter patrols, and provide reconnaissance and supply drops for the newly minted Enclave members.[5]

Interactions with the player character[]

  • The Kovac-Muldoon appears to be capable of both delivering supplies from orbit and firing space-to-ground missile strikes. MODUS used it to deploy an orbital scan beacon and orbital strike beacon for the player character to utilize.
  • During the Enclave events A Real Blast and Dropped Connection, the Kovac-Muldoon is used to either exterminate wasteland creatures or deliver a supply cache, respectively.
