The lever action rifle is a non-automatic rifle in Fallout 76.

Characteristics[]

An uncommon rifle usually found at level 50 or above. It uses the commonly found .45 round and has a plethora of weapon mods but this is offset by the rareness of finding multiple lever action rifles. However, due to its starting base damage being higher than the combat rifle, combined with the Rifleman perks, this can become a very powerful weapon.

Notes[]

  • As part of the firing animation, the lever action is cycled once, and a spent casing is ejected, unless it is the final round. The reload animation, regardless of ammo left in the magazine tube prior to the reload, includes a second cycling of the action and a second spent casing being ejected, despite the weapon not having been fired a second time. If performed with live rounds still in the tube, the second cycle would eject an unfired round. When emptying the weapon, the firing animation will not cycle the lever.
  • Animations show .45-70 rounds and casings being inserted and ejected despite the rifle's in-game chambering of .45, this is due to it being reused from Fallout 4 which contained the former ammunition type. Some stock modifications for the rifle also include a cosmetic .45-70 shell holder attached.
  • In third-person view, the rifle's hammer does not move.
  • When cycling the lever in third person view, the user's right thumb clips through the gun's grip.
  • Despite long barrel mods increasing the length of the lever action rifle's magazine tube, its ammo capacity does not change.
  • In first-person view, the player's right hand does not actually move to cycle the rifle's action and instead the lever moves on its own. This can be seen with a very high FOV setting.
  • Although the hair trigger, tuned, fierce, and steadfast receiver mods boost the rifle's fire rate, this only applies in first-person view.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Prior to patch 1.0.4.13, no matter how many rounds are fired, the gun would always reload as if all 5 were used. The same bug was present in Far Harbor.[verified]
  • PCPC Prior to the September 12, 2022 patch, receiver mods for the lever action rifle described as increasing fire rate did not actually boost fire rate stats. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One Due to the sped up round-by-round reload speed for this weapon, the cartridges inserted into the loading gate quickly clip back into the player's left hand.
